Redeemed! That is the Washington Post’s new stance regarding Virginia governor Ralph Northam. Now that he has gone through his season of penitence regarding that awkward blackface incident, all must be forgiven!

Northam, who still refuses to acknowledge whether he was or wasn’t in blackface in his yearbook photo, nor has provided evidence of him in blackface dancing to Michael Jackson, has learned his lesson and earned his second chance.

“Since Feb. 1, when the discovery of a racist photo on his medical school yearbook page dealt what seemed a lethal blow to his political career, Mr. Northam has refocused his governorship on racial equity and reconciliation in what amounted to an extended act of public contrition and atonement. It has been astonishingly effective not just in terms of his own political rehabilitation — his poll numbers climbed from the depths — but also in setting a clear theme for his four-year term in office, delimited by Virginia’s prohibition on governors succeeding themselves.

In the process, Mr. Northam, a Democrat, persuaded many Virginians to allow him a season of penitence. Not least among them are African Americans who were stunned when the governor first admitted, then denied, appearing in the photo in which one figure is in blackface and another is in a Ku Klux Klan costume, while adding that he did don blackface, appearing as Michael Jackson at a dance contest, the same year the yearbook was published.”

In February, the media was all up in Northam’s grill. The WaPo stridently called for his resignation.

“Northam is no doubt sincere when he says that the photo “is not in keeping with who I am today.” And he does have a long record to point too. But he has known for decades that this photo existed, and his failure to come to terms with it publicly and openly speaks to a character flaw that is also part of who he is today. “It will take time to heal the damage this conduct has caused. I am ready to do that important work,” he said in his statement Friday.

It is indeed a time for healing, and Northam has an important role to play in helping it happen. But not as the governor of Virginia.”

First of all, Northam should’ve resigned. As should’ve the other two Democrats who were dealing with scandals of their own at the very same time. However, as the WaPo says now, that would’ve meant that Republicans would’ve been in charge, and well, no one wanted that. Meaning the media and the Democrats wanted to stay large and in charge.

Secondly, I don’t care that Northam has made the rounds and learned about racial equity and set all sorts of new feel good programs in place designed to ensure racial justice goals have been met. His character to me will always be in the toilet, NOT because of the blackface crap. No, it’s because of his heinously evil stance on abortion. Remember that? I don’t plan to forget.

Funny how that issue got buried under the avalanche of blackface reactions isn’t it? Thank goodness and then some that that atrocious abortion bill never made it into law.

There’s another reason why the WaPo may be declaring that Ralph Northam has been redeemed. When, as governor, he proposes to take everyone’s guns and all counties respond by declaring themselves 2nd Amendment sanctuary counties … I’d have to say this is the WaPo’s version of rallying the Democrat troops around him.

Jodi wrote a must read here about what has been happening in Virginia and Idaho. There is nothing common sense about what Northam wants to put in law. It is gun grabbing plain and simple. Gun grabbing that leaves people at risk from criminals.

Exactly. But let’s not worry about that folks! Ralph Northam checked off all the boxes he was supposed to and has now been redeemed thus sayeth the Washington Post.

That is all too true. But you see, Northam is a Democrat, so once he jumped through the appropriate hoops, all is good! Blackface is in again folks!

If favored Democrat agendas and narratives are at risk because those pesky Republicans and conservatives are getting too big for their britches, then the media rallies to their defense.

The Result?  The media declaring Ralph Northam has been redeemed..
