Trump Taps Vice President Pence To Lead Coronavirus Response

Coronavirus or COVID19 is and should be a concern to us all. President Trump spoke this evening about the issue and steps the Administration is taking to combat it.

Currently there are people on every continent who have been diagnosed with Coronavirus. The media has been blaring headlines for the last few days with commentary all over the map. According to one wag at the WaPo, the best way for people to combat this global issue would be Medicare 4 All if it was in place like it should be. Yes, I rolled my eyes big time at that! Needless to say, headlines, stories, and reporters  jumping the shark doesn’t help. Earlier today The New Republic decided that right-wing isolationism from Trump et al is just as bad as Trump’s response to climate change.

Nor does the politicization by people like Chuck Schumer, Nancy Pelosi, and Chelsea Clinton help matters.

Throw billions at the issue and the problem will be solved! Make sure the coronavirus task force is DIVERSE and the country will stay healthy!

What I find humorous about this is that everyone is yelling at Trump for supposedly NOT managing the this outbreak well. Is ANYONE yelling at China about how THAT country has mishandled the COVID19 virus and in fact, kept it secret from the world for…how long? The media and others aren’t asking that question on a consistent basis, and they should be.

Meanwhile Rod Rosenstein’s sister Nancy Messonier, an official with the CDC, threw markets into a tizzy when she spoke out of turn yesterday.

“As more and more countries experience community spread, successful containment at our borders becomes harder and harder,” Messonnier said. “Ultimately, we expect we will see community spread in this country. It’s not so much a question of if this will happen anymore, but rather more a question of when this will happen, and how many people in this country will have severe illness.”

Secretary of Health and Human Services Alex Azar’s statement was much more thoughtful and reasoned.

“While the immediate risk to individual members of the American public remains low, there is now community transmission in a number of countries, including outside of Asia, which is deeply concerning,” Azar said, speaking before a Senate appropriations subcommittee. He said recent fast-spreading outbreaks in Iran and Italy were particularly worrying.

“We are working closely with state, local, and private sector partners to prepare for mitigating the virus potential spread in the United States, as we will likely see more cases here,” he said.

And, as Leslie over at Legal Insurrection points out, Larry Kudlow had to work overtime trying to clean up the apocalyptic mess that Nancy caused. Leslie makes an additional point that I agree with. The politicization and weaponization of COVID19 by the media and jackasses throughout the government is wrong on every level.

President Trump has named Vice President Mike Pence as the Coronavirus Czar to manage this issue.

Needless to say, the reaction from the left is… classy.

Like I said, classy.

Many others are saying that this means we are all going to die! In reviewing the Huffpost story everyone is pointing to, one thing I noticed. Then Governor Pence had grave concerns about needle exchanges and didn’t want to continue funding Planned Parenthood. So, according to all those who know better, the ensuing outbreak because of drug use was all Pence’s fault. What did they want? Needles everywhere like San Francisco is dealing with now? I guess so.

To al the media who is now shouting about Pence, needles, and HIV… KNOCK IT OFF! You are comparing apples to kumquats on this and you are becoming part of the problem!

The fact is, there is still much about coronavirus that we don’t know. Turning this issue and the response into a political football is helping NO ONE! This is not the time for petty politics, yet that is where we are right now.

He’s right. And yes, I laughed when he said that.

There are good people working their asses off to trying to figure out how to stop this coronavirus with Vice President Pence now leading the response. Democrats and the media need to get out of the way on this and shut up.

I listened to the entire press conference. I’m very happy Donald Trump is our President. I appreciated that he 1) put experts in charge, 2) deferred to them, and 3) isn’t following the evil advice of Rahm Emmanuel to “never let a crisis go to waste” but rather is working to avoid a crisis.

I was not a Trump supporter until he was the only alternative to Hilliary, but he has greatly exceeded my expectations. He’s really doing a fine job.

Meant to add… President Trump defers to experts. That’s one thing that detractors (including the press) criticize. They want a central planner, a great leader, a man who is expert at everything…as Barack Obama pretended to be. Trump *isn’t* a central planner. His opponents can hardly conceive of that, one reason they can’t fathom him. They really want a wise dictator, that’s what progressivism really is about, rule by unconstrained experts. And that’s not Trump.

OMG! Not Pence!! Now there won’t be any drama surrounding it! We can’t have that!
    Nooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo!!!!!!!!!!!!
(Honestly, that’s the best thing about that choice. Pence is not a man known for drama.)

    Oh yes, and…
Turning this issue and the response into a political football is helping NO ONE!
Not true. It’s helping all the people who are helped by a general populist panic – the Big Gov’t folks. Because – as you nailed it – they want a governmental savior, someone to ride in and save them from all their consequences.

BTW, I do think Pence was indecisive on the HIV “outbreak” in Indiana. Unfortunately, he was also facing progressive boilerplate responses/demands about free needles and wasn’t able to find a third way. (He ultimately caved to those demands.)
