To end one of his last few days in office, President Trump issued an executive order to terminate travel restrictions put in place earlier in 2019 due to the Coronavirus pandemic.

Trump’s executive order terminates the travel restrictions on the United Kingdom, Ireland, Brazil and the countries in Europe that compose the Schengen Area effective Jan. 26. The travel restrictions will remain in place for China and Iran.This, according to the proclamation:

NOW, THEREFORE, I, DONALD J. TRUMP, President of the United States, by the authority vested in me by the Constitution and the laws of the United States of America, including sections 212(f) and 215(a) of the Immigration and Nationality Act, 8 U.S.C. 1182(f) and 1185(a), hereby find that the unrestricted entry into the United States of persons who have been physically present in the Schengen Area, the United Kingdom (excluding overseas territories outside of Europe), the Republic of Ireland, and the Federative Republic of Brazil is no longer detrimental to the interests of the United States and find that it is in the interest of the United States to terminate the suspension of entry into the United States of persons who have been physically present in those jurisdictions.-whitehouse.gov

In fact, Trump wanted to do this months ago:

Is this a good thing or a bad thing? Depends on who you ask. Some say that it’s time restrictions be lifted to improve our economy. Others (mostly CNN-viewers) are spooling the conspiracy theories that this is Trump’s last-ditch effort to kill us all. Last week, the head of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention signed an order requiring nearly all air travelers to present a negative coronavirus test or proof of recovery from COVID-19 to enter the United States starting on Jan. 26. After a large blow this year to the airline industry, carriers are hopeful the new testing requirements would clear the way for the administration to lift the restrictions that reduced travel from some European countries by 95% or more.

That’s if Biden doesn’t reverse Trump’s executive order. Which, apparently, is the plan. This, according to Biden’s incoming press secretary:

On the advice of our medical team, the Administration does not intend to lift these restrictions on 1/26. In fact, we plan to strengthen public health measures around international travel in order to further mitigate the spread of COVID-19.

Of course the Biden administration will move to reverse the order. Remember when the left whined about Trump and his imposed travel restrictions being xenophobic? Guess this Tweet did not age well at all, huh, Joe?

Whatever happened to a wall not stopping the Coronavirus, Joe? Oh, Joe meant the wall at the border stopping illegal immigrants from coming in. That’s the wall he was talking about back in March. Biden will let you in without documentation or proof of a negative COVID-19 test or proof you have recovered, illegals. Just not now. Individuals who have loved ones living overseas may still be restricted from seeing them if the Biden administration reverses the Trump executive order issued yesterday. Proof of recovering from COVID-19 or a negative Coronavirus will not mean a thing. Even though he said, plain as day, back in March that no travel ban will stop the virus.

I have said it before and will say it again. COVID-19 cases are on the rise because the virus is now here and has become a fact of life. People are going to get this thing. Been there, done that, wore the t-shirt, got the positive test to prove it and lived to tell the tale. Travel bans are not stopping the spread. Wearing masks aren’t preventing infections. Dining in outdoor tents, clumped together in the COLD when there is plenty of room to “social distance” inside is not doing wonders for our health (or the health and well-being of those who have to work in those conditions in the interest of supporting themselves). Standing 6-feet apart in line at a Wal-Mart is a myth. It just doesn’t happen. Separating loved ones by oceans and restrictions has caused more depression in some cases than coming down with the virus. You want a plan to combat it, Joe? 100 million shots is just the start but you can’t do that when large vaccination sites are closed for a holiday, now can you? Last I checked, the ‘Rona does not take off on holidays. It graced my family over New Year’s.

The sad reality is the Biden administration may rescind the Trump executive order on travel restrictions-not because it is any more dangerous to travel than it has been but because of sheer ego. And those who were in agreement with Biden that Trump’s efforts to contain the virus were “racist” and “xenophobic” early on last year, are now in total agreement of remaining locked down to foreign visitors now. Perhaps the plan is to open up our borders soon after Biden’s plan to give 100 million shots in the arm is implemented on Thursday. I’m sure moving people through to get vaccines in some states will be seemingly flawless. Call me cynical, but I think we’ll see that migrant caravan moving through before our elderly get their vaccines and visitors can come visit from overseas. I hope I’m wrong.
