There is plenty to be concerned about in the United States. However, the rest of the world didn’t stop moving even though we have our own problems.
China, for example. There’s still concentration camps being actively used in China, and while the NBA and Disney have done their best (and worst) to avoid thinking about the blood money that they are raking in as profit, the rest of the world should be paying attention. Unfortunately, we are constantly getting distracted by the next shiny object that pops up in the news, which means that those concentration camps are being ignored on the daily for whatever is trending on Twitter. We cannot trust that the incoming Biden administration will be tough on China in the least – especially when we don’t know if Hunter Biden has finally given up his percentage stake in the Chinese private equity firm BHR Partners, as he had pledged to do if his father was elected president. In fact, Hunter is under investigation over those same Chinese dealings – which, of course, wasn’t disclosed by the Justice Department until AFTER the election.
Now, Biden’s incoming Secretary of State pick, Antony Blinken, did tweet this out.
The sweeping arrests of pro-democracy demonstrators are an assault on those bravely advocating for universal rights. The Biden-Harris administration will stand with the people of Hong Kong and against Beijing’s crackdown on democracy. https://t.co/nSj8dr3OEg

Which is good, if there are real actions behind Blinken’s words. A tweet means nothing in the long run when it comes to diplomatic posturing.
Well, China saw it, and they were… unhappy.
Beijing sent a warning to the next American government later the same day, with foreign ministry spokesperson Hua Chunying voicing support for the authority of the Hong Kong police.”
“Hong Kong enjoys law and order,” Hua told reporters at a regular briefing. “No other country has the right to make wanton criticism or interfere.”
The United States should “respect facts and the rule of law,” she added, while calling on Washington to “stop fabricating all sorts of pretexts for wanton political suppression and restrictions against China.”
Hong Kong has been overrun by Beijing, as this blog (credit to Kim in particular) has documented multiple times. Such an open shot across the bow of an incoming administration over a tweet by a yet-to-be-confirmed Secretary of State should not give anyone warm fuzzies about how China is going to be more cooperative with a President Biden than they were with President Trump.
Oh, and did you remember the ongoing Uyghur genocide and the concentration camps of Xinjiang? Not to worry, Beijing has LIBERATED the Uyghur women! They are all total feminists now who don’t need to have children to make them happy, thanks to the glories of communist re-education and enlightenment!
Study shows that in the process of eradicating extremism, the minds of Uygur women in Xinjiang were emancipated and gender equality and reproductive health were promoted, making them no longer baby-making machines. They are more confident and independent. https://t.co/lykDhByEiL

If this twisting of woke language to pretty up and gloss over the forced sterilization of Uyghur women in Xinjiang doesn’t make you nauseous, I don’t know what to say to you.
In a research report released last year, Adrian Zenz, a German scholar, said there had been a significant drop in the natural population growth rate in southern Xinjiang in 2018 and claimed that proved China was trying to control the size of the Uygur population.”
For a period of time, the penetration of religious extremism made implementing family planning policy in southern Xinjiang, including Kashgar and Hotan prefectures, particularly difficult, the research center’s report said. That had led to rapid population growth in those areas as some extremists incited locals to resist family planning policy, resulting in the prevalence of early marriage and bigamy, and frequent unplanned births.”
We all know how China feels about extra children, don’t we.
In the process of eradicating extremism, the minds of Uygur women were emancipated and gender equality and reproductive health were promoted, making them no long baby-making machines, it said. Women have since been striving to become healthy, confident and independent.”
Family planning policies have been fully implemented in the region in accordance with the law, the report said.”
I will take “This Is Bullshit” for $600, Alex.
The research center’s report said safe, effective and appropriate contraceptive measures are now available to couples of childbearing age in Xinjiang, and their personal decisions on whether to use those measures — which include tubal ligation and the insertion of intrauterine devices — are fully respected. As a result, the birthrate in Xinjiang decreased from 1.6 percent in 2017 to 1 percent in 2018 and the natural population growth rate fell from 1.1 percent to 0.6 percent.”
And we should completely believe that China “respects” the “personal decisions” of Uyghur women to make their own reproductive choices while they are forced to reside in concentration camps. I mean, why wouldn’t we believe this epic amount of gaslighting? This is exactly the kind of language that Planned Parenthood uses, someone at the China Daily thought – of COURSE the American public will accept this explanation of why the population growth of the Uyghurs has suddenly decreased!
It does sound very familiar.
This reads like what a Nazi tweet in 1938 would have looked like. https://t.co/bWW2d2uCuQ

Joe Biden is dodging and deflecting on Hunter’s Chinese interests. His nascent administration already getting a warning from Beijing over Hong Kong. The Chinese state media has the mind-blowing audacity to try and explain away genocide using the “Communist” to “Woke” setting on Google Translate. And I haven’t even mentioned the giant COVID-19 cover-up! (You know, the one that Senator Tom Cotton posited months ago, that COVID escaped from a lab, and was mocked as a conspiracy theorist? Well, it’s now looking more likely that he was right.)
Is anyone feeling supremely confident about how the United States and China are going to get along for the next four years and beyond?

That would be NO, for me.
The over/under for a hot war with the ChiComs under Biden’s tenure is 30 months. I’m taking the under.
