AOC Woke 2.0 Rebrand: Influencer Rockstar Politician

AOC has been a Congresscritter for ten years now thanks to the New Yorkers who voted for an economically illiterate bartender. Now she’s embarking upon a rebrand of herself. Moving from bartender climate guru Woke 1.0 to a Woke 2.0 rockstar version of herself.

New York Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez is laughing off “Woke 1.” But she’s carrying baggage from the 2020 era of cultural progressivism that some Democrats say is an obstacle to a future presidential run.

Why it matters: AOC’s pivot to the cultural center — which she began to roll out last week in a high-profile ABC interview by saying, “Woke 1 was crazy” — is potential damage control for her past remarks about law enforcement, immigration and a range of social issues.
Ocasio-Cortez told ABC that the left’s so-called excesses of that period were partly the result of the COVID pandemic and lockdowns.

But she made some of her most controversial remarks before the pandemic hit the U.S. in 2020.

“This is really going to be something that handicaps her, especially with demographics that are culturally more moderate,” former Biden White House adviser Yemisi Egbewole told us, pointing to Black voters in the South who have a large voice in Democratic presidential primaries.

Here’s some of the highlights that we’ve written about.

She bragged about killing the Amazon deal which would’ve given quite a number of people in her district well-paying jobs.

She believes gas stoves will kill us all.

Thinks Marxism and by proxy, the Black Panthers are extremely cool.

Definitely wants to tax the rich and try to skate out of paying for goods and services after her Met Gala appearance.

Is on record claiming that millennials are “badass” because their getting triggered by words is a badge of courage.

And let’s not forget that her climate change schtick has the world coming to an end in 2031. Which begs the question, if the world is coming to an end five years from now, why is she going on camera to show the world she’s freezing her eggs for a future pregnancy?

But now, AOC is proclaiming that her Woke 1.0 era was just crazy talk. As evidenced below, the folx at Salon still don’t get it.

A number of prominent leftists have started to back away from the tenets of Woke 1 in the blistering clarity of Hong’s defeat. The most prominent among them is Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, who, during an appearance on ABC on Aug. 9, was asked about Hong’s Thanksgiving comments. In her response, she quoted a post made by New York City Councilman Chi Ossé, who himself had made some overheated posts in the early 2020s and recently corrected the record with “Woke 1 was crazyyyy,” a phrase AOC deployed on TV as well.

A lot of dyed-in-the-wool activists were turned off by the flippancy of AOC’s riposte, and even with my own recent grappling over the problematic emotional landscape of the movement, I can understand why. The apotheosis of Woke 1 was triggered by the brutal murder of George Floyd by a police officer. Characterizing the outrage that followed as a strategic error feels a little mercenary.

But with respect to those concerns, I don’t think that’s exactly what Ocasio-Cortez was saying. The underlying injustices animating wokeness are real, and the opposition to them is righteous. But the challenge, for AOC and anyone else dreaming up Woke 2, is to bring the cause to scale—for the folks, rather than the folx. Is there room for a positive wokeness? One that does not commit so much time and energy to go-nowhere debates?

That was such a very long, LONG time ago you see.

Evidently anything she has said prior to this year was way back in the Woke 1.0 Dark Ages. And, since this very online hoping to be a new and improved political rockstar influencer has proclaimed that Woke 1.0 was crazy, Democrats are now seemingly unable to define what that was or even is.

Notice, Moore didn’t actually answer the question regarding defunding the police, something AOC has definitely advocated for on multiple occasions. Is she planning to tell us that was just crazy talk? I wouldn’t put it past her.

Here’s the thing. AOC’s rebrand is part a parcel of the Democrats doing what they do best. Sweep all the inconvenient things under the rug while ensuring the media turns a blind eye.

They’ll only report approvingly of AOC’s egg journey. They won’t report on the fact that AOC has been one of the most INEFFECTIVE politicians ever. Kellyanne Conway described, in a very matter-of-fact brutal fashion, how the star of the party isn’t the rockstar she is branding herself to be.

Indeed. “Always On Camera” AOC has not done one damned thing for her constituents. Passing exactly ONE bill in the ten years she’s been in office quite the failure.

Since she can’t and won’t legislate, she lives her life on camera and is hoping her Woke 2.0 rebrand gets her the same rockstar status as say… Taylor Swift, and lands her in the White House.
