Katie Zacharia has decided that the press secretary job is not her calling.

The 41 year old woman has had a rough five days on the job. While her week started off with breaking news in her first press conference, Katie Zacharia quickly fell under scrutiny as elements of her background were coming to light. Frankly, this is all stuff that the Trump administration should have vetted her for beforehand, and for some inexplicable reason, did not. You would think that they would have learned by now to vet people properly. When it came to light that Katie Zacharia had been calling herself an attorney, despite having failed the bar exam, she initially dismissed the problem as “somewhat inconsequential.”

In an interview with the conservative outlet Real America’s Voice, Zacharia said she was planning to move to China to be with her husband who was working abroad.

“I had already pre-registered to take the bar, and I didn’t want to withdraw from that,” Zacharia said. “I was already incredibly distracted and overwhelmed and excited for finally being married to someone who I’d been long distance from for at least a year, a year and a half when you include the engagement.”

“We just said let’s take this time, and I’ll take the bar and see what happens,” she continued. “The results are somewhat inconsequential because I knew I wouldn’t need the bar in China.”

Zacharia’s legal credentials have come under intense scrutiny after the left-leaning newsletter Popular Information reported that Zacharia is not licensed to practice law in the U.S. or Washington, D.C.

The Wall Street Journal reported late Wednesday that Zacharia sat for the California Bar exam after she received her law degree from Pepperdine University, but she did not pass.

Zacharia said that after moving to China, she “didn’t think much of the bar results or consider that was something I needed to focus on,” noting she worked as an associate at the international division at the Chinese law firm Zhong Lun Law Firm.

“I had enough credentials, which was my law degree, to be able to be in this practice,” she said.

When asked if she plans to weigh in on legal matters as press secretary, Zacharia said she was “not hired as White House counsel.”

Pointing out that she isn’t serving the White House in a legal capacity is actually a decent argument. Everything else is not. Not even an interview with Sean Hannity last night could save Katie Zacharia.

Zacharia appeared on Hannity’s show after a rocky first week behind the White House podium, including a debut briefing that lasted just 14 minutes and featured only three questions.

Hannity, who had initially defended that appearance as “perfectly normal,” took a decidedly different approach when Zacharia joined him on Thursday.

The Fox host repeatedly pressed her over the briefing and reports that she had described herself as a lawyer despite never passing the bar exam.

“Why not just say, ‘I went to Pepperdine Law School and then took a different career path’?” Hannity asked. “Why get into this long drawn-out thing about the difference between a lawyer and an attorney?”

Throughout the interview, Hannity repeatedly cut through Zacharia’s explanations over her legal credentials. After she confirmed that she had failed the bar exam and never retaken it, Hannity confronted her with reports of social media posts identifying her as an attorney.

Zacharia said the examples were retweets and insisted she had consulted legal professionals before using the term “lawyer,” citing her Juris Doctor from Pepperdine and previous work at a Chinese law firm.

While most are admitting that Katie Zacharia was in over her head, some quite succinctly pointed out the double standard.

It seems that everyone predicting a quick end has just been proven right.

White House Press Secretary Katie Zacharia is “transitioning” out of her role, The Daily Wire has learned.

Zacharia’s exit comes just five days into the job. The move follows President Donald Trump’s remarks Friday that he urged her to reconsider her position, citing what he called vicious treatment by the media.

Speaking to reporters, Trump strongly suggested Zacharia’s tenure as press secretary would be short-lived following a rocky first briefing and intense media scrutiny over her legal background.

“I told Katie that in my opinion she was treated very, very unfairly, very unfairly by the news,” Trump said. “And I said, Katie, do you need this? I don’t think you need this, and we’re talking about doing something. We like Katie a lot.”

Trump said he wants Zacharia to “have a good life” and claimed the 41-year-old has been “brutalized” by the legacy media.

“I said to her, honestly, if I were you, I’d reconsider,” he added. “I would reconsider.”

Well, so much for that. It looks like everyone knew her days were numbered, and President Trump is couching this in the best possible way for Katie Zacharia. Now, please, for the love of all that’s holy, thoroughly vet the next candidate for White House press secretary a little better next time. The job is demanding, but it shouldn’t be difficult to actually investigate someone’s credentials for the position.
