Dallas Shootings: Some Conservatives Need to Shut Up [VIDEO]

We conservatives tend to pride ourselves on being voices of common sense, restraint, and adherence to law. Yet there are those among us who just need to shut up, especially in these tense times.

Former Illinois congressman and now talk show host Joe Walsh is one of those. As the shootings in Dallas occurred, he tweeted an obvious threat to President Obama.

His account was temporarily disabled, and he removed the tweet, with apologies. However, he was back on his radio show, crowing over the publicity he received.

The news aggregation website Drudge Report, popular among conservatives, posted this as its headline immediately after the shootings. Not helpful, Drudge.

Then there is the massively popular talk show host, Rush Limbaugh.

Limbaugh claimed that Black Lives Matter is a “terrorist group. Quickly becoming a terrorist group committing hate crimes.” The researcher he interviewed in that segment, Heather MacDonald, discussed evidence critical of Black Lives Matter in her book The War on Cops, yet she did not use the term ‘terrorist.’

Never mind that it appears that the shooter may have been inspired by a tiny online hate group called the “African American Defense League,” of which he was one of 170 members on Facebook. The AADL is just one of many actual terror-like groups calling for killing police.  This screenshot appeared on its page about 36 hours prior to the shootings.

While conservatives are quick to defend police and their role in society — as we should — some police make complete fools of themselves as well.

The following incident hits much, much too close to home for me, as a resident of the Kansas City area.

Overland Park, KS, is one of the biggest suburbs of Kansas City. On Friday, one of its police officers was fired from the force. Why? Because he posted this jackassery, right after the Dallas shootings, referencing a little black girl with the comment, “We’ll see how much her life matters soon. Better be careful leaving your info open where she can be found 🙂 Hold her close tonight it’ll be the last time.”

As the saying goes, Who Does This?

Black Lives Matter, born of the “Hands Up Don’t Shoot” lie, is just one source of our rising racial tension. The Left and President Obama are also more than happy to stoke the flames, as Jenny pointed out this morning. But on the Right, we shouldn’t overlook the incendiary comments made by those who are supposedly on “our side” — and those include the alt-right racist hangers-on of the presumptive Republican presidential nominee, Donald Trump.

The rot doesn’t arise just from “them.” Sometimes it comes from “us” as well. As David French wrote in National Review: “It is possible to seek justice without slander and to demonstrate humility without weakness. . . but we can choose a different path. It’s time to pump the brakes.”

The only one I’d disagree with you on is Rush. I, too, believe BLM is a terrorist organization, for all the reasons I listed in my blog yesterday (not necessarily ALL its members; but far too many). Everything else, spot on.

  • GWB says:

Sorry, but BLM IS a terrorist organization. It is the same as CAIR and the Muslim Brotherhood.

Plus, I don’t consider the “alt-right” to even remotely be on my side. I’m offended at the use of the “alt-right” moniker, even. They aren’t “right” in any sense of the word.

Oh, and what makes you think the police officer in KS is a conservative? Do his other postings reflect conservative sentiment? Based on the (lack of) evidence presented, I’d guess he’s a largely apolitical jerk. Being a cop doesn’t make him a “right-winger” or a conservative.

Sorry, but I believe you’re missing my point.
Yes, BLM has followers who promote violence. The shooter has been identified as part of the New Black Panthers, a definite hate/terror group that is more than happy to piggyback onto the BLM movement. Unlike CAIR or the MB, though, it is a movement. It has no roster of membership.
Do you think all the people who marched in that Dallas protest prior to the shootings were all terrorists? Of course not — that would be preposterous. Yet when we accuse any person who might be attracted to BLM (yes, it was founded on a lie — I noted that in the post), do you think that person will listen to us? Do you like being called “racist” and “tea bagger,” as ridiculous as that is? I don’t.
Alt-right: again, it’s the image. Dems and the Left love to point out the alt-right nuts that follow Trump. He doesn’t denounce them. How does that help Republicans? Or conservatism?
And the cop in KS: It doesn’t matter what the politics of the unidentified officer were (he was purposely not named). Conservatives support police forces. One of them acted like a jerk. And once again the meme — see how conservatives and police see black people?
Furthermore, that police officer served a predominantly white suburb in a prosperous and very white part of the KC suburbs. I should know — I live there. It’s also primarily a conservative/Republican stronghold. I know several of the house reps and state senators who serve in Topeka — they’re staunch conservatives. One of the biggest tea party rallies in the nation (I was there) in 2009 was held in Overland Park — you get my drift. And now a cop from that area acts like a jerk. Yeah, once again, we’re the racists.
Yes, there’s a double standard for Left and Right. No, it’s not fair. But it’s the sad state we’re in right now.
      Thanks for your continued readership.

Do you think all muslims are terrorists? But islam is definitely the driving force for all that terrorism. The movement itself is responsible, since it is driven by those agitators. When I speak of organizations, I speak of its actual drivers and true goals, not just what it puts out as a PR operation (hence my … dislike of CAIR).
BTW, MLB most certainly does have a roster. It has several incorporated portions, and names associated with leadership positions. And those people are invariably (or seem to be at the national level) racist agitators calling for violence, though they like to deep six it when they’re caught. They also consistently call for things like blocking highways – that is, they advocate harming innocent people through illegal action in order to change politics in their favor. Without the direct violence (though, see Minnesota this weekend) that’s the definition of terrorism.

Dems and the Left love to point out the alt-right nuts that follow Trump.

And I put my effort into noting they aren’t “right”. I don’t have any responsibility for them or their views. I refuse to accept the left’s bogus definitions.

I won’t poke at the “conservatives support police” bit. But I fail to see how a bad cop (or just a jerk who is an otherwise decent cop) slimes me as a conservative? Did he commit that action on the basis of his conservative views? If not, then HOW IN HECK am I supposed to take responsibility for his actions? Seriously?
It doesn’t matter how conservative the area is (unless you can show it’s not one person less than 100%), that doesn’t in any way link this cop to conservatives. Oh sure, the leftists can throw about that smear, but I would expect you, as a conservative, to ask exactly the question I’m asking: “How in the world do you figure that?”
Do I condemn his action? Yeah. But I’m not doing it because I need to disown him or police my ranks. (Look at your title.)

I didn’t comment because of the double standard, but because it seemed you were accepting the double standard. I refuse it. I refuse to “disown” people that haven’t been demonstrated to belong to my group. I refuse to be called “racist”, and I tell people what I think of that stupidity. Yes, it is the state we’re in. But I’m not helping grease the zipline to hell. (Which I think is the one advantage to Trump: he won’t be greasing the zipline; he might not slow us down any, but at least he won’t speed us up. I don’t know that will help much, though, since we’re already at Mach 1.)

I read and comment here because I’m a big believer in the scripture: “Iron sharpens iron, and one man sharpens another.” (Proverbs 27:17) You ladies give as good as you get, and are willing to listen to what others say. If you didn’t, I wouldn’t bother. (Okay, I admit, I might toss in a snarky one-liner once in a while.)
I do wish there were more commenters on here (I don’t do FB) to do more sharpening. You ladies deserve the attention.

Ummmm. MLB has LOTS of rosters, 30 of them, in fact. But I was trying to talk about BLM.
          *facepalm*

          • Kim Quade says:

Ha! I was just going to point out “MLB.”
The roster for my beloved Royals is probably about half Latin American-born players; the player who is the most beloved in KC is catcher Salvador Perez from Venezuela. I went to a game last Friday, the day after the shootings, and noticed so many white people wearing player jerseys with names like Perez, Morales, Herrera, and those of our fantastic black outfielders Cain and Dyson.
(To paraphrase Tom Hanks: “There’s no bigots in baseball!”)
You are correct — we are not responsible for what idiots do, be they police or the racists among Trump supporters. But it’s the labels. You and I can discuss here. A reader at FB who disagreed with me on this very post called us “Hillary supporters.” Labels shut down dialogue. Both sides need to exchange ideas, not ad hominem attacks. Jesus said the greatest commandment was to “love your neighbor;” that doesn’t mean to avoid disagreements, but to show respect. As a Christian, I try to follow His command, however imperfectly.
I’m old enough to remember the days of the race riots in the late ’60’s, when Detroit and Newark left carnage that made Baltimore and Ferguson look like playground scraps. I don’t want to go back to that, and I know you don’t either. I have a fear that, thanks to Obama and various race-baiters, enhanced by social media, we may be headed down that path.
I linked an article by David French. He expressed pretty much my thoughts, although much more eloquently than I. He has an adopted daughter from Africa, so he’s coming from an interesting perspective. You might find it interesting.
            Again, thanks. We appreciate you.
