During last night’s address, President Trump made the salient point that Democrats, including one Chuck Schumer, once sang a very different tune when it came to the border.
Senator Chuck Schumer, who you will be hearing from later tonight, has repeatedly supported a physical barrier in the past, along with many other Democrats. They changed their mind only after I was elected president.
Why, they even supported a wall! How do we know this? It’s all on tape.
Dems pre-Trump:
-Hillary: Supported border wall
-Obama: More border security, illegals must speak English, go to back of line
-Schumer: Border walls work
-Reid: Offering benefits to illegals = insane
-Feinstein: US can't be Mexico's welfare
-Clinton: Illegal immigration is wrong pic.twitter.com/11AjuuOYbj— Ryan Saavedra (@RealSaavedra) January 5, 2019
But you see, a Democrat was sitting in the White House at the time, so they needed to sound tough on border security. Now that President Trump sits in the Oval Office, forget it. Orange man bad, bring in the illegal immigrants who are more American than Americans, per Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez.
Campus Reform went and had a little fun with those many plentiful pre-Trump quotes from prominent Democrats.
Wanting to know if opponents of Trump’s border wall had opinions on these past quotes from Democrat leaders, Campus Reform’s Cabot Phillips headed to American University.
But there’s a catch… the students were told the quotes actually came from President Trump.
Upon hearing the quotes, students said Trump’s words were “dehumanizing,” “problematic,” and “jingoist.”
“I just really think it’s hateful speech,” one student said, while another added, “the way he’s referring to people across the wall is dehumanizing.”
One student said the comments held racist undertones, claiming “there are racial biases deeply embedded in there.”
But this was all before they knew these quotes were actually coming from political idols of theirs.
The video is worth watching, especially for the students’ reactions.
The Democrats loathe President Trump, they loathe the idea of a wall, even though they have paid lip service to it before. The problem is that they know that they are trapped into a corner. They have no good answer to this:
BIGGEST TRUMP LINE:
"Some suggested a barrier is immoral. Then why do politicians build walls around their homes? They don't build walls bc they hate people on the outside. But bc they love the people on the inside. The only thing that's immoral is politicians who do nothing" pic.twitter.com/vWRJLvN6U4

Or to this:
Here's the problem for Democrats and the media: people do, in fact, care about border security. And when Trump talks directly to Americans about it, they tend to agree with him.

And when confronted with their own words, on video, what is left for Democrats to really say except “ORANGE MAN BAD” and then never answer for what once came out of their mouths?

Besides the surface level part about opposing anything President Trump is for, it appears to me that this is a case of both branches of the uniparty taking turns playing the underdog card, proposing things to please segments of voters, but that they really don’t want and relying on the other branch to stop it so they can say “We tried, but . . .” What is unusual is that they are doing it on the same side of the same issue and so many people seem to have memories too short to connect the dots.
