Shut up she says. Nancy Pelosi had some words of advice for U.S. Olympic athletes while in China. Shut Up.

The House speaker made the comments during a Thursday testimony before the Congressional-Executive Commission on China, in which she condemned the Chinese government, criticized the International Olympic Committee for making China the host country, and touted the Biden administration’s diplomatic boycott of the Winter Games.

Why China, after the disaster that was the Beijing Olympics in 2008 was ever awarded another shot at it is truly beyond me. Especially since it has been well known for years, that China is one of the absolute worst in the world regarding human rights abuses. 

Yet here we have Nancy Pelosi getting all worried and concerned that our American Olympic athletes might cross a line with China, so her fabulous advise is that they need to just Shut Up and compete.

What is both ironic and laughable about this is that she was speaking at an event that was convened specifically to discuss China’s human rights abuses. According to Nancy, while the U.S. cannot and will not be silent they will celebrate the athletes accomplishments from afar, while hoping they heed her warning that they Shut Up. 

“I would say to our athletes: You’re there to compete. Do not risk incurring the anger of the Chinese government because they are ruthless,” Pelosi said. “I know there is a temptation on the part of some to speak out while they are there. I respect that, but I also worry about what the Chinese government might do to their reputations and to their families.”

Quite honestly, I’m laughing at Nancy’s belated concern regarding China and the safety of our athletes. If she was SO concerned about this, she would’ve sounded the alarm months or years ago. But she didn’t until the last minute.

Nile Gardiner, former aide to Margaret Thatcher: “This is a disgrace. The United States is the world’s superpower. It should never kowtow to the Chinese Communist Party.”

Tommy Pigott, RNC: “Seems the only entity Democrats don’t want athletes to protest is Communist China.”

And this from former Olympic skater and current coach.

Yes, he is in China supporting and coaching one of our athletes.  That doesn’t mean he needs to do as Nancy says and Shut Up. Instead he asks a very valid question. 

But it’s Nancy’s concern that is so very very laughable. Especially that it’s given at the last minute and that, during her tenure as Speaker of the House, what exactly has she done to stop China? Nothing. Not one damned thing, other than make lots of toothless speeches. 

That’s definitely something to consider. Meanwhile, Nancy is all in with the Biden Administration. China knows they will only say lots of big words. When it comes to action, the current Administration’s foreign policy is that of appeasement. 

Nancy’s warning to our Olympic athletes is just so much hot air. China knows it. Everyone knows it. This 2022 Olympics is nothing more than a means for China to spread its propaganda far and wide. Not one single country, not one single media network, and very few athletes will speak up about China’s abuses. 

Until anyone in the Biden Administration or Congress is willing to actually DO something to hold China to account for their atrocities, they along with Nancy are the ones who need to Shut Up and sit the hell down.
