Manhattan DA Caters To Criminals

The newly sworn in Manhattan DA, Alvin Bragg, believes catering to criminals will make New York City safer for all.

No, I’m not kidding. No sooner had he been sworn in, then he issued a memo to all the staff at the DA’s office. Which reads in part,

Armed robbers who use guns or other deadly weapons to stick up stores and other businesses will be prosecuted only for petty larceny, a misdemeanor, provided no victims were seriously injured and there’s no “genuine risk of physical harm” to anyone. Armed robbery, a class B felony, would typically be punishable by a maximum of 25 years in prison, while petty larceny subjects offenders to up to 364 days in jail and a $1,000 fine.

Convicted criminals caught with weapons other than guns will have those felony charges downgraded to misdemeanors unless they’re also charged with more serious offenses. Criminal possession of a weapon in the third degree, a class D felony, is punishable by up to 7 years behind bars.

Burglars who steal from residential storage areas, parts of homes that aren’t “accessible to a living area” and businesses located in mixed-use buildings will be prosecuted for a low-level class D felony that only covers break-ins instead of for more serious crimes. Those more serious crimes, class B and class C felonies, would be punishable by up to 25 and up to 15 years in prison respectively.

Drug dealers believed to be “acting as a low-level agent of a seller” will be prosecuted only for misdemeanor possession. Also, suspected dealers will only be prosecuted on felony charges if they’re also accused of more serious crimes or are actually caught in the act of selling drugs. That felony would mean facing up to seven years behind bars.

Yes, you read that correctly. I tell you what, as soon as the criminals get wind of this, crime (already at high levels in NYC) will skyrocket!

Furthermore, Bragg caters to the most deadly of criminals out there. Why? Because, even for the most heinous of crimes, the Manhattan DA will not seek life without parole sentences. As the NY Post notes, by state law, it has been typical that terrorists, cop killers, and those who brutalize children under the age of 14 are eligible for life without parole. Not anymore. Not with Soros-backed Alvin Bragg now in charge!

You see, by not keeping looters, rioters, burglars, rapists, or domestic violence suspects in jail, that helps those criminals find good jobs later on, and will ensure that family connections aren’t …strained. Not only that, but in changing the sentencing guidelines, Bragg has effectively hamstrung the parole board. Victim impact statements will be useless in the future.

There are now at least seventeen cities experiencing massive crime sprees. In each one of those cities, the DA’s and politicians are catering to the criminals. There’s no such thing as soft on crime in Seattle, Portland, Philadelpia, Chicago, and now Manhattan. Instead, the safety of the public has been kicked to the curb.

Not only that, but this puts law enforcement in jeopardy. Given these new rules from the Manhattan DA, why would police want to do their job? Why would they arrest anyone caught with drugs, caught dealing drugs, or caught burglarizing a business or home only to have them back out on the street hours later?

Soros is definitely cheering about this.

Off somewhere wearing a sardonic smile must be billionaire George Soros — the arch-anarchist who’s been lavishing big bucks on progressive district attorney candidates for years now, and who kicked in a reported $1 million to Bragg’s campaign last year.

Now Soros has hit the jackpot. Bragg holds America’s foremost local law enforcement office in terms of volume, influence and prestige. In other words, whatever it is that Soros has in mind, Bragg both owes him and is perfectly positioned to oblige him — and on the grandest stage in America. This is not a comforting thought.

No, that definitely isn’t a comforting thought. Keep in mind, the new Mayor of New York, Eric Adams, is a former cop. He ran on a tough on crime platform.

And the new Manhattan DA just threw one hell of a wrench into that promise. How will Adams be able to promote and promise that the city will be tough on criminals when one of the most high-profile DA’s office in the city has decided to cater to criminals?

Just as the Manhattan DA was announcing his new catering to criminals memo, multiple gang members were arrested in Brooklyn. Many of the gang members were under the age of seventeen. They were all arrested and charged with 118 counts that include armed robbery, assault, and the shooting of four people.

“You decimate a community’s ability to believe in being safe when you have violence of this magnitude.”

Catering to criminals will only add to the violence and crime in New York City. Safety for the citizens? Not in Manhattan.

UPDATE: I guess it depends upon what the definition of criminal is.
