Biden Says “No More Drilling” To Heckler In NY

Honest question: is Joe Biden intentionally trying to lose the election for his fellow Democrats, or has he just gone so senile that whatever filter he once had (and there wasn’t much of one) is now completely gone?

In a mark of true desperation, Governor Kathy Hochul of New York had Joe Biden out campaigning for her on Sunday evening. As we have covered a few times on this blog, Kathy Hochul is in the race of her life against Lee Zeldin. Can Zeldin pull off the upset? Well, early voting has begun, and…

Is this enough to put Zeldin over the top? It certainly has Hochul nervous enough to bring in the Democrat big names like both Clintons, Kamala Harris, and Biden.

Well, be careful what you wish for when Joe Biden is on a stage. First of all, the elderly grandpa nearly faceplanted while pacing on that stage set up at Sarah Lawrence College, likely stumbling over a cord or a cable.

Does anyone know if Kamala Harris had a hand in setting up the stage tonight? Just curious.

But here’s the real problem. Grandpa Joe will say literally anything that the person in front of him wants to hear. If he thinks a California audience wants to hear about all his green energy delusions, then he will say that coal plants are going to be closed in favor of wind and solar energy. And then the White House has to do emergency clean-up, and Karine Jean-Pierre is not nearly as skilled at that job as Jen Psaki was. Jean-Pierre insisted that Biden’s words had been “twisted” after Joe Manchin flipped out.

How on earth is Karine Jean-Pierre, or whatever hapless White House lackey who loses the coin toss in the morning, going to spin this one?

Um, say WHAT now?

“No more drilling. There is no more drilling,” Biden snapped at a young woman in the crowd. “I haven’t formed any new drilling.”

“There are at least five more years of offshore drilling,” the woman shouted back. “— in the Atlantic or the Pacific but in the Antarctic and off the gulf of New Mexico.”

“That was before I was president,” Biden responded. “We’re trying to work on that and get that done.”

Now, the Biden administration has been absolutely negligent in fulfilling the drilling lease auctions that are required under law. The lease sales finally took place in July, with environmental groups complaining loudly. Biden himself has gone on to blame the oil companies for high gas prices and “profits,” looking to shift the blame somewhere else for the price at the pump, along with administration officials, who decided to berate companies for the problem.

As inflation surged in the first half of 2022, it became clear that the White House had an economic crisis on its hands. No U.S. president has been reelected with gasoline prices above $4 a gallon. In June, the nationwide average touched $5. As analysts began pricing in record profits for Big Oil, Biden went on the attack.”

“We’re going to make sure everyone knows Exxon’s profits,” he said at a press conference in Los Angeles. “Exxon: Start investing and start paying your taxes, thanks.”

Exxon responded by saying it was investing heavily in the U.S. and was working on a major Gulf Coast refinery expansion. But the narrative was now clear: Biden would be blaming Big Oil for high gasoline prices.”

Less than two weeks later, Biden summoned top oil executives to the Department of Energy in Washington to discuss the issue. For more than an hour, the CEOs talked with (Energy Secretary Jennifer) Granholm about the barriers to higher fuel production and the policy moves that could help pare costs.”

Granholm assured them that the administration wanted to collaborate. At one point, Wirth, the Chevron CEO, walked through the economics, logistics and constraints of U.S. refining. Participants described the meeting as cordial and productive, a kind of olive branch offered to the industry after Biden’s tongue-lashing.”

But it was a much different scene three months later when oil company officials met again with Granholm, National Economic Council Director Brian Deese and Amos Hochstein, a senior energy adviser at the State Department.”

The Sept. 30, session — initially expected to take an hour and billed as a discussion of fuel supplies in the wake of Hurricanes Fiona and Ian — quickly devolved. There was little talk of the storms. One participant described it as “a lecture” from Granholm.”

Administration officials berated the group for selling fuel overseas instead of storing more in U.S. tanks, and suggested that without voluntary industry action, the government could force companies to stockpile more domestically. At least one official blasted the companies for reaping high profits while failing to address low inventories.”

As Granholm and Hochstein pressed the companies to curtail fuel exports and explain how they would work to lower prices, the industry participants repeatedly raised objections, insisting they couldn’t divulge those details in front of competitors. That kind of frank discussion could be a violation of U.S. antitrust law, they argued.”

The meeting broke up less than half an hour after it began.”

So now here is Biden, stumping for Kathy Hochul, talking directly to a heckler in the audience and telling her exactly what she wants to hear. “No more drilling, it wasn’t me.” While his administration is yelling at oil companies and trying to pressure the Saudis into a quid pro quo to make sure oil production isn’t slashed until AFTER the midterm election, Biden then goes off script and undermines all the damage control that Karine Jean-Pierre and the White House comms team tried to do over the coal plant remarks.

Here’s another question: does the White House comms team pretend to start with mimosas this morning, or will they just shrug their shoulders and start pouring the Kahlúa straight into their coffee cups?

Just look at Hochul’s face in that clip embedded in the tweet. Doesn’t her grin look a little… fixed? And doesn’t Joe look a little too creepy and satisfied with himself at the end? Yikes. Well, you bring out the “Weekend At Biden’s” show, you get what you get.

Tuesday can’t come soon enough.

My hunch is that Biden knows there’s a new batch of executive orders being prepared to do exactly what he is mumbling about to kill off gas, oil and coal. The question forming in my mind is what will the conservatives do after taking over to try and stop the crazies? Impeachment seems the only viable path, maybe the multiple investigations as well to slow them down with distractions.
