David French over at the wonderful National Review has written a column today that lays out the plain truth that someone of sober mind had to write. The post is titled “It’s Time We Faced the Facts About the Muslim World“. It’s time. It’s way past time.

Since September 11, 2001, everyone, including then President George W. Bush, has gone to great lengths to say that we are not against Islam. This is not a religious war. We love Islam and Muslims. While at the same time, we are being told that those of us who do not embrace our Muslim brothers and sisters are racists, xenophobes and Islamophobic.

With this weekend’s bombings in New Jersey and Chelsea and the knife wielding terrorist in Minnesota, the flagellation has begun anew. The media and most politicians are beating themselves senseless trying to be kind to our Muslim brothers and sisters. And, Hillary blames …dun, dun, dun… Donald Trump.

Oh, for the love of Pete, woman. Give it a freaking rest. Everything is recruiting for Islam. She makes my hair hurt.

Back to David French. He writes:

Yet when any politician or pundit suggests restrictions or even special scrutiny applied to Muslim immigrants — especially Muslim immigrants or visitors from jihadist conflict zones — entire sectors of the Left (and some on the right) recoil in shock and horror. Whenever there’s a terror attack, there’s an almost palpable desperation to determine that the attacker was not Muslim and the attack had “no connection” to international terror, in spite of the fact that it is now ISIS and al-Qaeda strategy to inspire lone wolves.

If Methodists were committing crimes in the name of John Wesley, not only would all Methodists be blamed, but all of Christianity would be shunned or even outlawed. Immigration from Christian countries would be ended. Talk to the Syrian Christians now.

David French posits that the media won’t blame Islam because it might help Donald Trump, but admits that their squeamishness regarding Islam long predated Mr. Trump. Mr. French is right in that it is their suicidal slavishness to bean counter diversity that explains most of their kowtowing to Islam.

Mr. French talks about the many Muslims who, although they won’t join jihad, sympathize with and donate to terrorist organizations. He asks why we continue to allow immigration or visas from clearly terrorist countries without imposing an idealogical litmus test. Great question. Liberal heads will explode and spaghetti spined conservatives will hide under their desks at the suggestion.

That makes it all the more important that we double down on our support for proven Muslim allies. The Kurds, for example, are perhaps our most stalwart allies (outside of Israel) in the entire Middle East. The current Egyptian regime is a declared enemy of the Muslim Brotherhood, and its president, Abdel Fattah el-Sisi, has called for a “religious revolution” within Islam. If we don’t want extensive American ground forces engaged in permanent ground combat in the Middle East, we need local allies. It’s that simple.

It is that simple and that is what makes it profoundly difficult and important. We must be bold and courageous against those among us who are afraid. Namely, the media and our political leaders.
