The House of Representatives has passed a toothless War Powers Resolution aimed at ensuring that Trump can no longer do bad things to Iran.
“The House passed a war powers resolution Thursday seeking to limit President Trump’s ability to take military action against Iran without congressional approval.
The 224 to 194 vote fell largely along party lines, with only three Republicans and Republican-turned-independent Justin Amash (Mich.) voting for the resolution from Rep. Elissa Slotkin (D-Mich.). Eight Democrats opposed the measure, which instructs Trump “to terminate the use of United States Armed Forces to engage in hostilities in or against Iran or any part of its government or military” unless Congress has made a declaration of war or there is “an imminent armed attack upon the United States.””
You know, if anyone was following the news yesterday, all you would’ve seen is Democrat after Democrat whining that Trump assassinated a major Iranian figure. According to them, Soleimani was a really helpful dude and was making sure Obama’s precious Iran Deal was adhered to! Not only that, but their implication is that Iran is actually, not as bad as those gosh-darned Republicans want us to believe!
I find it utterly amazing and sad that Democrats willingly cast aside forty one years, since 1979 and the U.S. Embassy takeover, of Iran paying for and fostering terror all over the world. “Death to America” is a feature with Iran, not a bug.
The tantrums by our media betters and the Democrats have done nothing but play into the hands of Iranian propagandists.
Members of Congress blaming the American President when Iran recklessly shoots down a passenger plane and kills 176 people is an incredible PR coup for the Ayatollah. https://t.co/tix07OjmZf

That is absolutely true. There are multiple examples in the last few days along of Democrats and media spouting crap that the Iranian propaganda machine will dine on for months.
It’s one thing when lunatics like Tribe say lunatic things.
But @RepSpeier is an elected member of Congress blaming the President for Iran murdering 176 innocent people.
Just egregious. pic.twitter.com/FwzBBQLxLn

Why is this resolution toothless? First of all, it’s non-binding. Secondly, it won’t go to the President for signature. Third, it’s incredibly evident that Congressional Democrats want to have it both ways. They had NO problem with President Pen and Phone ordering multiple drone strikes against bad actors. But when Trump takes out a guy who is a REALLY bad actor? The knives come out.
“”We deserve the respect from the administration and that Congress deserves under the Constitution,” House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., said on the House floor. “The Constitution of the United States calls that there be cooperation when initiating hostilities.””
Awww… Nancy feels disrespected. SAD CHRISTMAS!
Here’s the problem with Nancy’s ‘respect me!’ stance.
I know, I know. That was different so shaddup!
Tell me again how Soleimani was a “peaceful” guy? Not so much. His track record is binders full of hate, pain, terror, and death. Soleimani wasn’t roaming around Iraq for his health. He wasn’t there looking to develop the latest spa. Nope. Far from it. Just look at the players involved in the Baghdad Embassy attack. All of those players were terrorists themselves who had received support on multiple levels from Soleimani and Iran for years.
We would be MUCH safer, according to Rep. Pramilia Jayapal, if we HADN’T assassinated poor little Qasem Soleimani. Horse shit.
CNN has now decided to blame Ukraine, and somehow Trump by default, for the plane taking off and then getting shot down by a missile. CNN evidently has NO ONE in their news rooms who can explain how airports work. What a jerk move by CNN. Then again, it’s CNN so jerk moves like that are standard fare with them these days!
Chris Matthews couldn’t help himself.

He really needs to get a grip.
Back to Nancy and her championing of this toothless War Powers Resolution.
Killing Soleimani was bad because no one asked for her permission to proceed!
“Asked if the Trump administration misled the American public in justifying the airstrike, Pelosi said that while she can’t share the classified information that she was briefed on, “I do not believe in terms of what is in the public domain that they have made the country safer by what they did.””
You know what that tells me? It tells me that the information she received during the classified briefing was such that Soleimani’s death along with the rest of his merry band getting obliterated was absolutely and unequivocally justified. Her immediate pivot to touting only what is in the public domain is very telling.
It’s all about the narrative and they will run with that as long as they can and hope that no one will ask questions.
Deterrence does work. Yet the Democrats wanted it to be THEIR kind of deterrence. Hence their toothless War Powers Resolution.

Nina,
I agree 100% with the assessment of the whiny dims on this issue, though Rep. Matt Gaetz made some decent points in relation to his vote in favor. Basically he said that the War Powers act allows congress to skirt their duty, and shove it off on the President, and as such he opposes it ( he’s not wrong, IMO)
We deserve the respect from the administration and that Congress deserves under the Constitution
Well, stop throwing it away then. Take back your lawmaking power, your war-making power, and give back to the states their pre-eminence.
The Constitution of the United States calls that there be cooperation when initiating hostilities.
Trump did not initiate hostilities. To suggest otherwise is wholly dishonest or bat-guano crazy.
Now, was she merely sloppy, or does this answer the question I’ve been asking lately?
We would be MUCH safer … if we HADN’T assassinated poor little Qasem Soleimani.
Define “safe”. If you think being in chains is safe, then you might be right. If you happen to think being free is part of being safe, then, NO.
CNN evidently has NO ONE in their news rooms who can explain how airports work.
Which is really ironic considering 90% of their audience is stuck in one or another of them.
However, I also wonder if anyone was smart enough – besides the US of A – to ground their flights that night? Was it simply “That was long enough to go we should be safe”? Or was it “They wouldn’t dare to shoot us down”? Or even “OMG, we have to get out of here, Everyone buckle up!”?
can’t share the classified information that she was briefed on
I do not believe in terms of what is in the public domain
IOW, yes, it was justified. But you have to twist it any way you can to blame Trump.
Also, what is in the public domain is MORE than enough to justify killing that bad dude while he was in what is arguably a war zone of our jurisdiction.
Deterrence does work.
Anyone claiming otherwise is an idiot. And probably also believes the death penalty does not reduce recidivism.
