The Trump White House press pool under Press Secretary, Karoline Leavitt is shaping up to be a little less legacy.
We know The Associated Press dug in their heels over the last few weeks and refused to change their “Gulf of Mexico” in their Stylebook to “Gulf of America”. We know they threw a tantrum and filed a lawsuit against Leavitt and two other members of the administration after they were uninvited to sit at the table. After Monday’s ruling by Judge Trevor McFadden, citing the fact that the AP waited more than a week to file the suit as evidence that there wasn’t a “dire situation” or “irreparable harm” (so dire and urgent) caused by waiting for a trial, Leavitt has decided to capitalize on this win:
It’s beyond time that the White House press operation reflects the media habits of the American people in 2025, not 1925. A select group of DC-based journalists should no longer have a monopoly over the privilege of press access at the White House.
So by deciding which outlets make up the limited press pool on a day-to-day basis, the White House will be restoring power back to the American people who President Trump was elected to serve.
Moving forward, the White House press pool will be determined by the White House press team. Legacy outlets who have participated in the press pool for decades will still be allowed to join, fear not, but we will also be offering the privilege to well deserving outlets who have never been allowed to share in this awesome responsibility.”-Karoline Leavitt, White House Press Secretary
This is good news. The corporate, “legacies” still have their spots, but there is opportunity for other lesser-known, hungry journalists and news sources to actually cover The White House. Imagine offloading some hefty bias and actually giving the Beltway cocktail-party journos a run for their money. Some may even discover that a fair amount of them are not very good at their jobs.

The bottom-feeders of the swamp-White House Correspondents Association-are for sure, a bit jilted. They really thought they were something, shouting defiantly at the President from 2016-2020 and, kissing the diapered rear-end of the vegetable who is Joe Biden for four years afterward. If they DID ask questions, they made sure they were softballs. And, if anyone else dared to ask a question that Biden did not know the answer to or simply, did not understand in his cognitive state, Karine Jean-Pierre was there running interference, albeit badly. They also opted to not report anything that would portray Joe Biden, his family and the administration in a negative light. Scandals disappeared into thin air. Corruption was largely ignored. Everything swept under the rug. The egg is all over their faces and, yes, they should be embarrassed.
We agree with Karoline Leavitt. It is beyond time that the playing field is leveled. It is beyond time to allow not only liberal media outlets to be part of the privileged group who has access to the President, but Conservative outlets and lesser-known news sources should also have the same opportunity to cover The White House. It’s a bit ironic the left whines so much to others about “acknowledging their privilege” but when it comes to elite circles such as the press pool, elite news organizations like AP want to retain their position of privilege. And, yes, it is a privilege, not a right, to fly alongside the President-ANY President-on Air Force One. Gone are the days of the “popular kids” picking their friends and excluding others at the lunch table. One would think that the liberal media would be all about this inclusion, but they are not. They don’t want just anyone in their little club of reporters. They are being forced to include reporters and outlets they would normally thumb their noses at and it irritates them beyond belief.
Good.
This move tears at the independence of a free press in the United States. It suggests the government will choose the journalists who cover the president. In a free country, leaders must not be able to choose their own press corps.”-Eugene Daniels, the president of WHCA’s board and a POLITICO correspondent
Really, Eugene? What about their own set of questions before the questioning begins? Should leaders not be able to choose those as well? In a free country, a press corps should be allowed to ask any questions they want, not just the ones hand-picked for them by the leaders themselves. And, who’s writing your checks these days, anyway?
And, let’s not pretend that this did not happen in 2023 under Biden:
The Biden White House’s recently announced rules aim to close that loophole by putting journalists on notice that they will be punished they don’t use ‘professional’ behavior.”-Steven Nelson, The New York Post
One cannot have a “free press” when exclusivity is only granted to an elite circle of cronies and stories stem from an “authority” to other media outlets with a leaning bias. Again, this decision to even the playing field and allow more journalistic perspectives in is a good thing. Liberal journalists? You’ll still get your crack at 47, but you may not get that crack every day. And if you’re looking for someone to blame for this, look to your buddy, Jim Acosta. What did he say, again? Oh, yeah.
You need to get over this.
