Barack Obama is going to end his presidency still under delusions of his own competence. The man who once remembered that he was not a king is seeing the end of his term, and the lame-duck status really is beginning to get to him.

Fast and Furious. The IRS. Benghazi. The VA. The EPA. Obamacare. The fact that he knew about Hillary’s private email server.

But, you see, these weren’t PERSONAL scandals. So he considers himself squeaky clean and holier-than…. Trump, apparently.

Obama said he’d avoided ethical scandals by trying to follow the spirit, not just the letter, of the law, and suggested Trump would be wise to follow his example about conflicts of interest. Though he declined to explicitly offer Trump advice, Obama said he’d been served well by selling his assets and investing them in Treasury bills.

“It simplified my life,” Obama said. “I did not have to worry about the complexities of whether a decision that I made might even inadvertently benefit me.”

Good government advocates have criticized Trump’s decision not to liquidate his sprawling business interests, but put them in a blind trust entrusted to his children, who are playing major roles in helping him form his administration and are expected to remain involved in one capacity or another.

We have yet to see how President-elect Trump plans to divest himself of business responsibilities for at least the next 4 years (and any person who recognized that Trump was deeply tied into his persona as a businessman, also HAD to realize that extricating himself from these same businesses was going to be a massive problem), so it’s a little premature for Obama to be lecturing him on how best to do it.

Remember, this is why the left took losing the election so hard. To them, government isn’t just government – it’s a religion. And their “god” is now leaving them to the mercies of Donald Trump. I’m sure once President Obama builds his presidential library, the faithful will make pilgrimages to remember his awesomeness. It’s up to the rest of us to make sure the names of Brian Terry, Kate Steinle, and Christopher Stevens, Sean Smith, Tyrone Woods, and Glen Doherty will be remembered, too.
