This was a surprise to nearly everyone in the media and in the public at large this morning. Nikki Haley, easily one of the most popular members of the Trump administration, announced her resignation publicly this morning during an impromptu press pool.
The news filtered out over Twitter, with most expressing shock. But unlike the Rod Rosenstein hysteria that ended up being a giant fail on the part of the media, this scoop was indeed proved true. However, it is clear by the tone and the openness of her announcement that she made this decision, and President Trump really regrets it.

Of course, the rampant speculation and hot takes immediately began on Twitter. Haley herself shot down the first speculation.
HALEY: “No, I’m not running in 2020.”
She says she will campaign for TRUMP in 2020.
”It has been the honor of a lifetime” to be UN ambassador, she says.

But don’t worry, there were plenty of other bad takes to behold.
No evidence? Run with it anyway. https://t.co/czZ2BslIjA

Oh, and then there was the “let’s make this about race” angle…
REMINDER, Haley is one of:
– 6 women on the Trump cabinet. (Out of 24 members.)– 4 people of color on the cabinet.
– If she were replaced by a white man, the cabinet would go from 66% white men to 70% white men.
– The nation, in contrast, is 31% white men.

While the media hyperventilates about Nikki Haley’s resignation, we should all take a step back and appreciate the service that she has given to the country.
Thank you, @nikkihaley, for your amazing service and moral courage in walking into the lion’s den every day!

We here at Victory Girls are big fans of Nikki Haley. She has absolutely kicked ass and taken names as the UN ambassador. Following her will be a tough act for the next UN ambassador.
But we also need to recognize that after six years as South Carolina’s governor, and almost two years as UN ambassador, it is perfectly acceptable for anyone to want to take a break from the world of politics. As a mother of teenagers, I can particularly appreciate that Ambassador Haley feels that her family deserves more of her time and attention. Shouldn’t we all want to be with family rather than the politicos that Haley has had to deal with for years?
So yes, let Nikki Haley take a breather. Maybe she will come back and serve in the Trump administration again. The president certainly left that door wide open. Maybe she will simply stay in the background until another position appeals to her. She has said that she will be campaigning for Donald Trump in 2020. She certainly is leaving her position on good terms, and on HER terms. Her future is wide open. (Please run in 2024, PLEASE.)
Thank you, Ambassador Haley, for your service to this country. Please go and take your well-deserved break, spend time with your family, and recharge your batteries. Your country still needs you in the future.

(BTW, she said she wouldn’t run for president in 2 years. She didn’t mention vice-president. 😉 )
One bit of speculation was that Bolton and Pompeo were becoming the stars in foreign policy, and that somehow rankled her. Doesn’t seem to be true (the rankling bit), but she and Trump have disagreed more than once (and once was a little embarrassing), and Pompeo and Bolton make her a little less of a stand-out (being similar in foreign policy temperament).
It doesn’t seem to be a problem, though, and Trump seems genuinely sorry to see her go.
Next question is, does The ‘Stache get moved back into that position? Or will Trump look somewhere else?
Thank you ma’am for being the best UN representative this country has had in my lifetime …..
