Well, look who poked her head up again. Joy Reid has a knack for reappearing every so often with something inflammatory enough to remind everyone she’s still around, and this time she’s dusted off one of the oldest, most tiresome lectures in American politics: Black people who dare to be conservative are somehow doing black wrong. Joe Biden may have actually said, “you ain’t black,” but apparently Reid liked the general idea enough to give us her own 2026 version.

Oh, We’re Still Doing This?

I don’t know why this particular argument irritates me so much, other than the fact that it is do damn old and tired. Why, in 2026, are we still sorting Americans into political categories according to the color of their skin? A black person is conservative, therefore he or she must hate other black people. They couldn’t possibly have looked around, formed their own opinions and decided not to agree with Joy Reid? Nope. It’s self-hate. Sellout. Something is wrong with them. I mean that’s what Joy is telling everyone.

Reid then expanded her argument to MAGA, calling it a movement built on humiliation, and singled out Rep. Byron Donalds as an example of a self-hating black Republican. She also revived his 2024 comments about black families during the Jim Crow era, mischaracterizing them as saying black Americans were better off under Jim Crow, before claiming black conservatives have to excuse slavery to succeed on the right.

Can we please stop dragging slavery and Jim Crow into every political disagreement involving a black American? Reid actually claims black conservatives have to “excuse slavery” to get ahead on the right. Who is excusing slavery? Who is asking anyone to excuse slavery? We abolished slavery more than 160 years ago, yet Joy Reid keeps hauling it back onto the table as though Byron Donalds needs to answer for something that ended before his great-grandparents were born.

At some point, constantly viewing people through a lens of their skin color starts looking an awful lot like the very thing Reid claims to oppose.

Speaking Of Being Thirsty For A Boost

This is where Joy Reid almost makes the joke too easy. She says black conservatives put on this whole performance because they are thirsty for attention and a boost from the right. Joy, puddin’. You’re a former cable news host sitting on somebody else’s podcast, tossing out inflammatory racial garbage that was practically engineered to become a headline the next morning. Girl, please.

Here I am writing about you after barely giving you a thought for months. If we’re going to start diagnosing who’s thirsty for attention around here, perhaps we should widen the examination table.

And Somehow Capitalism Is To Blame

Because apparently there weren’t enough villains in this story already, Reid eventually got around to capitalism. According to her, conservatism is cruel, and capitalism is basically dog eat dog. Good grief. Is Joy auditioning for a job in the Mamdani administration now? Somehow we went from black conservatives to slavery, Jim Crow, MAGA, and now capitalism. I’m surprised she didn’t throw billionaires and landlords in there while she was at it.

Aren’t We Tired Of This Yet?

This whole thing is just so damn boring. Not because race doesn’t matter or because the past didn’t happen, but because people like Joy Reid seem determined to keep having the exact same conversation over and over again.

Black conservative? Self-hating.

Republican? Racists.

Trump supporter? MAGA cultist.

Capitalist? Cruel.

This stuff just doesn’t have the punch it once did. We’ve heard it all before. The accusations get louder and more ridiculous. And why is that? Because the left doesn’t have an argument. They have nothing to say that is positive for America. They all hate America and what it stands for so of course they want to burn it all down.

The script never changes for them. And every so often Reid pops her head up, reads from it again, gets herself a few headlines, and disappears until the next outrage cycle.

That’s what really bothers Reid. Black conservatives don’t need her permission to be conservative, any more than they need anyone else deciding what they’re supposed to believe based on the color of their skin.

Joe Biden already tried the “you ain’t black” routine. It was insulting then, and Joy Reid’s updated version isn’t any better. Maybe it’s finally time to retire the whole damn script.
