Vivek Ramaswamy ran a controversial campaign ad featuring Amy Acton’s estranged mother, and now some of his fellow Republicans are making more noise about it than the Democrats. I understand the objections, but I’m not convinced all this public condemnation is accomplishing much.
🚨 IT’S OFFICIAL: Ohio governor candidate Vivek Ramaswamy launches a $4 MILLION DOLLAR campaign behind THIS AD of Amy Acton (D)’s mother calling her a liar, saying NOT to vote for her
Vivek is going for BROKE.
Her mother, Donna Arthur, says it straight to camera: “It’s not easy for a mother to say this, but Amy was a serious problem. She is a liar; she lies about her past.”
Vivek owned it: “It is an ad from our campaign.”

Well, Vivek certainly wasn’t pulling any punches with that one. He put Amy Acton’s own mother in a campaign ad, and the Republican outrage machine promptly kicked into high gear. You’d think these people had never witnessed an ugly political campaign before. And frankly, I’m finding their reaction a whole lot more irritating than the ad itself.
This story has been stuck in my craw for the last 24 hours. When I first heard all the pearl-clutching coming from the so-called conservative media, not to mention the attacks on Vivek, I had to wonder, what exactly are we doing here? Thankfully, I managed to get a good night’s sleep despite all this nonsense, and when I woke up, there was JD Vance saying exactly what I’d been thinking.
Vice President Vance criticized the response by some Republicans to a campaign ad for Ohio gubernatorial candidate Vivek Ramaswamy (R), saying he is “disgusted” by those in his party who pushed back on the video.
“I have to admit that I’m a little bit disgusted when I see Republicans across the country who are whining more about that advertisement than they are about what the congressional Democrats and other Democrats want to do to the United States of America,” Vance said at a fraud task force press conference Wednesday.
Exactly. And what bothers me is that this isn’t anything new. We’ve seen this same reaction from Republicans time and again. Somebody does something controversial, and suddenly everyone is scrambling to prove they’re the first to call it out. Which brings me to something I’ve been wondering for a while now.
I keep hearing that Republicans are supposed to hold their own to a higher standard. Fine, but what exactly does that mean? If we’re going to start examining the character of every politician who makes a questionable decision, we might as well begin in Washington, D.C. I suspect we’d be occupied for the next several decades.
And where does it end? Are we going to demand that every Republican publicly condemn every other Republican whenever they do something somebody doesn’t like? Is that really what we’re calling accountability now?
And Vivek? He’s not backing down, and he’s sure as hell not apologizing. For now anyway.
Republican gubernatorial candidate Vivek Ramaswamy doubled down on the controversial campaign ad featuring the estranged mother of his opponent in the Ohio governor’s race, Amy Acton, calling her a “liar.”
“If she feels that there’s anything that’s unfair or inaccurate about the criticisms leveled against her, she should be willing to defend herself on a debate stage,” he said on Wednesday.
Acton’s campaign and her brother denounced the ad as a “despicable low.”

Nikki Haley called Vivek a bad guy. Ohio Republican Jon Husted said he wouldn’t have run the ad. Now, those are two very different reactions. Husted is entitled to his opinion, and frankly, I don’t have a problem with someone saying they would have handled things differently. But does every disagreement need to turn into a public judgment of someone’s character?
And the criticism hasn’t stopped with elected Republicans. Conservative commentators have joined in, too. The Daily Caller questioned what the advertisement actually accomplished, while Mediaite went so far as to suggest that Ramaswamy may have lost whatever support he had left within his own party.
Really? We’re already writing him off?
At this point, are we trying to hold Vivek accountable or do Amy Acton’s campaigning for her? Because it’s certainly giving her plenty of material to work with. Get over yourselves. Welcome to political campaigning in 2026. It’s not pretty, and it never has been.
Congratulations. You’ve told the world how offended you are.
JD Vance told Republicans to stop whining and go win the race, but some seem more determined to defeat their own candidate than his Democratic opponent. With Republicans doing all this attacking, why would Amy Acton even need to debate Vivek?

And this is the problem. So-called conservatives would rather continue to lose ” gracefully” than do whats needed to win. He didnt solicit her mother to say those things, but theres no reason in the world he shouldn’t use them. This is a war for the very soul of our nation, and we MUST come together and bring every weapon to bear, or we will lose. And if we lose, the things that happened in China, North Korea, and Russia when the communists took over there will pale by comparison to what the islamofacists and the rest of the left have in store for us..
Amen!!
Ah yes, let’s just try and sweep this under the rug shall we? First, we should be absolutely crystal clear on what the ad was: Amy Acton’s estranged mother, whom she hasn’t spoken to in 50 years, called her a liar. But it wasn’t adult Amy she was really calling a liar. It was child Amy. Amy’s stepfather was credibly accused for raping her when she was 12. He was indicted and fled the state, with her mother, who refused to believe Amy. So her mother, this woman this author a basically hand waving toward, sided with her own daughter’s rapist against her daughter. This was in 1978 and the fact that he was indicted is indeed something and may be a sign that there was physical proof and/or other victims. Amy’s mother lost custody after the charges and Amy hasn’t spoken to her since. As for any other laws, her brother has corroborated her telling of events and there also appears to be documentation from the time.
This is a low, disgusting ad used to dredge up a childhood trauma for politics. It’s truly heinous and gross and Ramaswamy is a true snake for even bringing it up. He deserves to lose and should resign for running the ad.
And the fact that this author is essentially shrugging her shoulders shows that Republicans are truly the Epstein party and don’t care at all about assault victims regardless of their age. May God have mercy on her soul.
Nice try jackass, now do Weinstein…
You’re a freaking hypocrite.
I don’t think anyone is claiming it was a lovely thing for Vivek to do. We just have to put it in perspective. On the one hand you have “made a mean ad” and on the other you have “communism”. It’s not a tough choice.
You don’t care about Epstein because he wasn’t going to offer you a boy for sex. And the rest of your kind don’t care about Epstein because Trump didn’t bang any of the girls there. As for the ad? You and your kind have made it clear that civil behavior is not allowed and you are mad because we’re punching back.
