Ilhan Omar is in deep, deep trouble. And it looks like she knows it.
The raid on her home, and the revelation that the feds have her DNA, have people asking a lot of questions. However, the congresswoman was missing in action for a week, leaving her current husband to run interference.
Well, her disappearing act ended on Tuesday night, when Ilhan Omar emerged to… ask her supporters for money.
Rep. Ilhan Omar resurfaced Tuesday for the first time since the raid on her D.C. home by posting a campaign video from the back seat of a vehicle asking supporters for money to "fight Trump" — but never once addressed the immigration fraud investigation.

“Hi everyone, Ilhan here,” Omar said in a selfie video showing her riding in the back seat of a vehicle and wearing a blue campaign shirt. “I just wanted to say thank you so much for the support, to everyone who sent a note of support, for everyone who sent $5, $10, $20.”
Omar did not directly address the investigation or the raid, but attacked President Donald Trump. She said that the money she received in the fallout from the search “goes a long way as we fight Trump and his administration for trying to intimidate me and so many people right before the midterm elections.”
“We know that they’re running scared,” she said of Trump and Republicans heading into a consequential midterm election. “We’re not going to be intimidated. We’re not going to be silenced. We’re not going to be scared.”
She closed her video by pleading for more cash. “Please continue to support us. It’s going to be a very expensive and challenging time. So we appreciate whether you’re able to send $5, $10, $20. Thank you.”
Why would Ilhan Omar need money? She’s all but guaranteed re-election to her House seat in Minnesota. Does she anticipate a different need for the cash? Perhaps some kind of legal defense? She would have to do some fancy explaining to the FEC to claim that she could use campaign funds for her personal legal defense. We know that she and the husband have gone from millionaires to broke on paper, and Tim Mynett is facing some truly incredible allegations of fraud.
The California winery co-owned by Rep. Ilhan Omar’s (D-MN) husband took investors’ money for barrels that held nothing at all, according to House Oversight Committee Chairman James Comer (R-KY).
The Kentucky Republican said over the weekend that eStCru, the label Tim Mynett launched in 2020 with a business partner, pitched the empty casks as wine that would be left to age. The winery, which was once lauded by trade publication Wine Business, closed its doors in April as the scrutiny of Omar’s finances intensified.
Well, I guess that is one way for a Muslim to own a winery – sell empty barrels! No wonder there’s an investigation into the financial disclosures!
And in the middle of all the money troubles, is the ongoing investigation into immigration fraud. To help combat that, Ilhan Omar gave an interview to the world’s friendliest outlet for a Democrat, MS NOW, to a “journalist” who would never dare ask her a hard question, Chris Hayes. Which means, naturally, Ilhan Omar gave the worst and weirdest answer possible to an embarrassingly simple question.
Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-Minn.) on Wednesday called allegations that she married her brother “insane” – but didn’t entirely close the door to the possibility of being related to her ex-husband.
“Not to my knowledge,” Omar responded, when asked by MS NOW’s Chris Hayes if there was any “weird kernel of truth” to the claim that she wed her brother.
The decade-old allegations that Omar and her ex, Ahmed Nur Said Elmi, got hitched in a failed effort to get him a green card originated on a “Somali blog,” and spread when “right-wing conspiracy theorists” latched onto it, Omar explained in her first interview since federal agents raided her Washington, DC, home last week.
Hm, I would not phrase it that way if asked this question. https://t.co/Ha3tmbXIgq

The very fact that Omar’s answer wasn’t a firm denial is eye-opening, to say the least. And sounds like someone is trying to give herself some plausible deniability, especially considering all the times before that Ilhan Omar HAS denied marrying her own brother, despite many years of questions about it. And like a good little team player, Chris Hayes just breezes right on by her answer.
It's notable that Omar has previously strongly denied any insinuations that her ex-husband was a sibling, including this response to Minnesota Public Radio in 2016:
"Insinuations that Ahmed Nur Said Elmi is my brother are absurd and offensive."
Today, for whatever reason, she… https://t.co/OAI9TqCzcD

It also brings to mind some other famous denials.
This is the greatest response in politics I've ever heard since Bill Clinton did is is. https://t.co/wFXbTFU1qu

Omar’s response is on par with Kamala Harris saying that there was nothing she would have done differently from Joe Biden on “The View” in 2024. Even now, the hosts of “The View” consider that softball interview a gift to Kamala that she completely flubbed. Chris Hayes set this question up so Ilhan Omar could firmly disavow ever being married to her brother. She stepped on the rake instead.
