As numbers come in from turnout at the polls in Georgia, it seems as if the numbers have increased quite dramatically.
In fact, according to this from The Washington Post, more than 1 million Georgians have voted early, a dramatic increase from the last midterm election in 2018 and nearly on pace with the 2020 presidential election, according to the Georgia secretary of state’s office.
While every demographic and region of the state has seen elevated turnout relative to 2018, there has been a surge of participation from women, Black voters and voters over age 50, according to an analysis by The Washington Post. The increases have been largest in the Atlanta region, while many counties in the state’s southwest and along the southeast coast are far outpacing their early vote counts from 2018. Cobb County, a fast-growing suburb of Atlanta, crosses both trends, having counted more than three times the number of ballots collected at the same point in 2018.”-Matthew Brown and Lenny Bronner, WaPo
A sharp increase in black and women voters. The majority of voters in Georgia cast their ballots in person, with mail-in-ballot requests falling significantly from past election cycles in the state.
Interesting, for sure. And, you know what? Lines to cast ballots were not eight hours long! And whole lines of Americans were not speaking Russian! (We know. A lot can happen between now and 2030.)
So much for the voter suppression and the “threat to democracy” Stacey Abrams warned people about:
All of those suppressed votes, right, Stacey? However did they all get out of the house?
15 days until we make history. 15 days until destiny.

Destiny. Destined to lose, perhaps? But despite record early turnout, voter suppression in Brian Kemp’s Georgia is still underway. From just two days ago:
In 2018, we had record turnout. We had record turnout that shattered records for Democrats among communities of color and in that same election … we know that 85,000 Georgians were denied their right to vote due to voter suppression tactics that shut down their precincts. We know that 50,000 voters had their right to vote held hostage by the exact match process which was proven to be voter suppression tactics. We know that thousands of people stood in lines for hours because of voter suppression tactics.”-Stacey Abrams
Yep the blatant voter suppression and racism is still happening. It’s still Jim Crow 2.0 in Georgia. Joe Biden–err–Kamala Harris was actually supposed to fix the issue after she fixed the border crisis. (Snort.)
MLB All-Star games were moved. Coca-Cola and Delta Air Lines said voter laws in Georgia were racist. The practices were “the 21st century version of Bull Connor and Jefferson Davis”, said Joe Biden.
I ask every elected official in America: How do you want to be remembered? At consequential moments in history, they present a choice: Do you want to be on the side of Dr. King or George Wallace? Do you want to be on the side of John Lewis or Bull Connor? Do you want to be on the side of Abraham Lincoln or Jefferson Davis?”-Joe Biden
Do you want strawberry jello or pudding, Joe? Do you want Matlock or Murder She Wrote, Joe? Do you want the smooth, long tresses of a young pre-pubescent girl or Dylan Mulvaney‘s wig? I digress.
More than one million people. Record turnouts in Georgia. But voter suppression is apparently still happening. Elizabeth Warren called the whole practice “despicable”. And Karine Jean-Pierre? Well, she just does not want to “get into specifics” about what’s going on in Georgia.
Nearly 1 million people (!!!) have voted early in Georgia as polls open today, which is 55% than at this point in the 2018 election. Some tidbits:
Race:
55% White
32% Black
1.5% Hispanic, Asian each
9% other~55/45% women to men
77% of voters so far are above 50#gapol

Stacey Abrams has pretty much lost her key campaign strategy. Voting during Midterms while a Republican governor is sitting in Georgia is pretty much a non-issue. There’s no racism to see here. No suppression. No discrimination. In fact, voting in Georgia has been a seamless process for most who want to cast their ballots.
The Democrats say that voters are simply “overcoming new hurdles” in Jim Crow 2.0 Georgia. They say, “it’s too early to tell” how this voting explosion will play out.
The only thing played-out right now is Stacey Abram’s voter suppression shtick. Who knows? Maybe she’ll blame the Russians again. Can’t wait to see how she spins this in a few weeks. Go ahead with Jim Crow 2.0, Stacey. How is that working for you?
