De Blasio’s Bid For Labor Secretary Is A Joke

No, it isn’t a joke and yes, the memes will write themselves. Bill de Blasio, former Mayor of New York, has decided he has the chops to be Secretary of Labor. Yes, it’s true.

Bill de Blasio still wants to do to the rest of the country what he did to the city — but this time as a member of President Biden’s Cabinet, The Post has learned.

The widely reviled former mayor and failed Democratic presidential contender is lobbying to succeed Labor Secretary Martin Walsh, a source familiar with the matter said Thursday.

“The mayor has had his eye on the Biden administration for a long time and now he sees an opening and he’s making his case for labor secretary to the White House,” said the source, who has close ties to the West Wing.

Can you just imagine what he’d do as U.S. Secretary of Labor?? Who remembers SlurpeeGate?? He placed burdensome regulations on businesses because those darned Slurpees were the sole reason for obesity. He demanded that businesses police their customers and forbid Slurpees sale, and, he got slapped down. But not before businesses spent a lot of wasted time, effort, and money on his mandated scheme.

The decision, upholding a lower court rule in March that struck down the law, dealt a blow to Bloomberg’s attempt to advance the pioneering regulation as a way to combat obesity. Beverage makers and business groups, however, challenged it in court, arguing that the mayoral-appointed health board had gone too far when it approved the law.

A unanimous four-judge panel at the appeals court agreed, finding that the board had stepped beyond its power to regulate public health and usurped the policy-making role of the legislature.

A good portion of the labor force includes law enforcement and their unions. How’d that work for de Blasio in NYC? Horribly.

Policing expert Eugene O’Donnell, a professor at John Jay College of Criminal Justice, said de Blasio’s “impact on public safety and the NYPD has been catastrophic.”

“There’s no other word for it,” said O’Donnell, a former NYPD cop-turned-lawyer.

“You have a police job now that is both unwantable and undoable. He took a safe city and he unraveled it. This was a near-impossible accomplishment.”

Bill de Blasio wants to be Labor Secretary, but the dude was unable to show up to work or to events on time…AT ALL. The man was a joke as a Mayor, can you imagine what he’d be like as Labor Secretary?!

Let’s take a look at what he did to the workforce, public and private, during the entire Covid pandemic mess. For the city of New York employees:

All New York City municipal employees will soon be required to receive a COVID-19 vaccine, Mayor Bill de Blasio announced Wednesday.

The city workers — including firefighters and cops — will be mandated to get their first dose by 5 p.m. on Oct. 29, the mayor said. Members of the city workforce who have not started their vaccine series by Nov. 1 will be placed on unpaid leave until they provide proof of vaccination, according to de Blasio.

For the private sector:

No shirt, no shoes, no vaccination proof — no job!

Anyone working in the city’s private sector must be vaccinated against COVID-19 under a first-of-its-kind mandate announced by Mayor de Blasio on Monday — but the sweeping new rule was quickly cast into doubt as his successor withheld support and business leaders blasted it as a “horrific” blow to their bottom line.

Were any of those vaccine mandates economically friendly to the workforce?? No.

As Bill de Blasio left office, he left Mayor Adams with a fiscal headache, some of which was due to his elaborate spending schemes across much of the NYC labor force, and those bills are coming due concerning health insurance, pensions, overtime, and much more. Putting him in charge of the Department of Labor’s budget?? He’ll overspend faster than you can blink!

Furthermore, does anyone really think that Bill de Blasio could do something positive for the nation’s work force? No. Again, this is not a joke. Bill de Blasio thinks he has the chops to transform and invigorate America’s labor force. The frightening thing is, some people will believe he can because he’s such a progressive fool. One who shut down the 9/11 Tribute in 2020 because Covid, but painting Black Lives Matter on a street is totally healthy.

Remember, this is the guy who promised a burger and fry lunch for everyone who showed up to get vaccinated.

Yes, that went over like a burnt burger. As for his prowess in helping the NYC labor force grow and thrive, having major unions and most of law enforcement consistently turn their backs on you during a public appearance is telling. Furthermore, the many investigations and allegations of ‘pay to play’ and corruption should put an end to this nomination process.

Except we are dealing with the Biden Administration. If they can put men masquerading as women in charge of the Department of Health, it’s possible that de Blasio, as much of a joke that he is, could at least get nominated. Unless Sean Maloney of Chef Boyardee fame gets the nod instead. Either way, the joke would be on us.

“Bill de Blasio wants to be Labor Secretary, but the dude was unable to show up to work or to events on time…AT ALL.” Just think how much better life would be if every Cabinet level Secretary didn’t show up for work.

Mitt Romney would vote to confirm.
