UPDATE BELOW: The erasure of history continues. This time at Arlington National Cemetery. The Confederate Memorial, specifically designed to show the reconciliation between the North and South, will be removed in four days.
A Confederate memorial is to be removed from Arlington National Cemetery in northern Virginia in the coming days, part of the push to remove symbols that commemorate the Confederacy from military-related facilities, a cemetery official said Saturday.
The decision ignores a recent demand from more than 40 Republican congressmen that the Pentagon suspend efforts to dismantle and remove the monument from Arlington cemetery.
There’s much more to this than just removing an icky Confederate Memorial. As we’ve all watched these last few years, history is being erased one statue and name at a time because any ties to slavery or the Civil War can no longer be allowed. This time, actual graves will be desecrated to appease the scolds.
Just weeks ago, the Washington Post gleefully published a stomach-turning ode to the melting down of the Robert E. Lee statute. Those who did so were so sure they were in the right to melt down a piece of history, they did it in SECRET. Statues and memorials all over the country have been removed or destroyed altogether. All in the name of solving the problems of slavery and racism. As if, once the statues are gone, racism and the history of slavery in this country will magically disappear.
Which brings me back to the Confederate Monument at Arlington National Cemetery.
Joe Biden’s woke DOD intends to move forward with its misguided plan to remove the Reconciliation Monument—which commemorates national unity—from Arlington National Cemetery.

The cemetery organization itself is only doing this because they were given orders.
As required by Congress and implemented by the Secretary of Defense, Arlington National Cemetery (ANC) is required to remove the Confederate Memorial located in Section 16 of ANC. A process to prepare for the memorial’s careful removal and relocation has been completed. All bronze elements of the memorial will be relocated. The granite base and foundation will remain in place to avoid disturbing surrounding graves.
In order to remove the Confederate Memorial, ANC had to comply with the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA), as well as with Section 106 of the National Historic Preservation Act (NHPA). On Feb. 9, ANC initiated the Section 106 process by submitting a notification to the Virginia State Historic Preservation Office regarding its intent to remove the memorial in compliance with the DoD mandate. The first public meeting was held on Aug. 23, 2023. Click “Meetings,” at left, to access transcripts, recordings and other materials from public and consulting party meetings.
Uh huh, keep in mind that this is happening because of the Naming Commission’s ruling, which Elizabeth Warren chairs, and the mandate handed down by Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin. What is notable about all of that is that they kept this very quiet until recently. If there were reports, they were local.
This Confederate Monument at Arlington Cemetery is about RECONCILIATION. It is about unity after the horrors of the Civil War. Yet, it and the graves within and around it must be erased. Yes, the sculptor who created this beautiful monument is buried underneath it.
Four days after the Spanish-American war ended, McKinley proclaimed in Atlanta: “In the spirit of fraternity we should share with you in the care of the graves of Confederate soldiers.” In that call for national unity the Confederate Memorial was born. It was designed by internationally respected sculptor Moses Jacob Ezekiel, a Confederate veteran and the first Jewish graduate of the Virginia Military Institute, who asked to be buried at the memorial in Arlington National Cemetery. On one face of the memorial is the finest explanation of wartime service perhaps ever written, by a Confederate veteran who later became a Christian minister: “Not for fame or reward, not for place or for rank; not lured by ambition or goaded by necessity; but in simple obedience to duty as they understood it; these men suffered all, sacrificed all, dared all, and died.”
President McKinley gave that proclamation just 33 years after the Civil War ended. The generals he sent to lead the troops in Cuba were generals from BOTH sides of the Civil War. It was Moses Jacob Ezekiel who took a chisel in hand and created a monument to unity and reconciliation that has stood at Arlington for over 100 years.

All of this is supposedly being done to appease and fix the issues that bubbled to a head with the George Floyd riots in 2020. Let’s remove statues and desecrate graves in honor of appeasing the angry mobs who rioted on behalf of a drug-addled thug.
9/ But of course, this is never *really* about the Confederacy or “Confederate Statues”. The same spirit animated the recent removal of the statue of Thomas Jefferson from the New York City Council, where it had stood for 187 years. pic.twitter.com/SuNnkAk48o

This particular memorial to the reconciliation between the North and South is also being removed against the actual naming commission guidelines that state GRAVESITES are not to be disturbed.

The monument was built 109 years ago to honor post-Civil War reconciliation and national unity.

In the guise of honoring a drug-addled criminal, an actual monument to unity will be torn down and graves desecrated.
SHAME ON ALL OF YOU.
UPDATED: A federal judge issued a temporary restraining order to halt the removal of the Reconciliation Memorial.
The Honorable Judge Rossie Alston Jr., who was appointed to the federal bench by President Trump, has just issued an order HALTING the removal of the Confederate Memorial at Arlington Cemetery. https://t.co/7kw1jd5HNQ pic.twitter.com/YfdpPD7hBh

The lawsuit states in part:
“The removal will desecrate, damage, and likely destroy the Memorial longstanding at ANC as a grave marker and impede the Memorial’s eligibility for listing on the National Register of Historic Places,” the lawsuit accuses.

In a footnote, Alston wrote that he “takes very seriously the representations of officers of the Court and should the representations in this case be untrue or exaggerated the Court may take appropriate sanctions.”
On Friday, the cemetery had said in its statement that “the area around the Memorial will be protected to ensure no impact to the surrounding landscape and grave markers.”
Except there is at least ONE grave that will be desecrated if the statue is removed, Moses Ezekiel’s.

There will eventually come a reckoning, and given the precedents being set now by the progressives, they should expect no sympathy. And if there is a hot ACW2, they shall receive no quarter.
“The Honorable Judge Rossie Alston Jr., who was appointed to the federal bench by President Trump, has just issued an order HALTING the removal of the Confederate Memorial at Arlington Cemetery.”.. Cue the “Uncle Tom” comments from the left..
They still haven’t gotten over the republicans freeing their “property” during the civil war, and can’t tolerate a black man going “off the plantation”… They WILL show their true colors in this case..
Never mind that the entire commission was an exercise in dividing the country, and should never have been formed..
