Suddenly bigotry and discrimination is the IN thing again. No really, I’m not kidding.
It seems there is a major fashion designer with her threads all in a knot over the hideous prospect of being asked to dress Melania Trump at any point during the next four years!!

Oh, ok. so this is about artistic freedom, ethics, and humanity. Gotcha.
It doesn’t have anything to do with the fact that you are a super duper fan of Michelle’s and were always just thrilled to pieces when she wore a design of yours at some high profile event would it?
It wouldn’t be that mega YUUGE bump in sales you always got when Michelle wore one of your evening gowns would it?
No? Its not that? Then what is it? Honestly, I’d like to know. You say in your letter that you strive for diversity, respect for all lifestyles, and individual freedom but then immediately turn around and say that you will refuse any overture from Melania Trump, the White House or probably anyone associated with the Trumps, no matter how well they wear their clothes…
Everyone was yelling about the fact that Melania wore dresses from Fendi and Roksanda (both international designers) during the RNC.
Gee Sophie, I wonder why? Oh and Sophie? I’ve a question for you. How is what you are doing ANY different than a baker, a pizza place or a florist refusing service based upon their individual beliefs and freedoms including artistic freedom?
Guess what toots, there is no difference at all.
@people Make the goddamn cake! But not the dress…

Seriously, your hypocrisy is on full display here. And its a sight to behold.
These people shout equality for all, yet they have no problem showing their own prejudices…what hypocrites…

I'm so tired of these oh so edgy liberals like @sophietheallet who thinks that by showing her racism she is not racist. Just go away already

Oh look it's ok for a business to refuse service now. https://t.co/tzDBWUHAUz

I guess there’s tolerance and then there is “tolerance.” Meanwhile Sophie will stick to her guns…er pins and keep doing her level best to maintain her “integrity” while hawking her $400 plus dresses.
"Integrity is our only true currency." Weird, none of these $400 dresses are listed as available in integrity units. https://t.co/WsrRXgwCr9

Right? In the last 8 years, brand visibility and sales have ALWAYS increased both in the US and worldwide whenever Michelle wore a designer’s clothes. For Theallet, letting her personal and political choices get in the way of her brand may very well hurt her. She not only sells $400 or more clothing items, she also has her brand at The Limited, The Gap and Cacique among others. I wonder what her sales volume will be after the Christmas holidays?
Meanwhile, Carolina Herrera, a designer who is far more successful than Theallet has a different point of view on the matter.
As for Melania Trump, the designer reckons that her colleagues will soon cotton on to the idea of starting a sartorial conversation with the new first lady.
“I think that in two or three months they’ll reach out, because it’s fashion,” Herrera says. “You’ll see everyone dressing Melania. She’s representing the United States.”
Anyone want to take bets on how long it will be before Theallet changes her tune? I wonder what the Vegas odds are? Meanwhile everyone should take note. What wasn’t cool in the past including discrimination and bigotry is now cool again. Only as long as you are on the left, never voted for Donald Trump, or are a fashion designer who might be faced with the supreme horror of being asked to dress Melania Trump.
In ordinary times I would say to Sophie Theallet, “Fine. We live in a free country, and its your choice.”
But we are not a free country any more.
We are a country where you can be forced to participate in a gay wedding against your will.
We are a country where your livelihood can be destroyed if you offend the rich and powerful.
We are a country where you can be physically assaulted (in some cases with the approval of the authorities) if a mob of brownshirts decides that your views are “offensive”.
So I say: sue Sophie Theallet until their business is ruined. Let the evil men and women of that organization feel the weight of tyranny and oppression they are so hot to impose on others. Let those who would enslave others become slaves themselves.
Very true RL. Very true.
