As our Carol told you yesterday, King Charles III and Queen Consort Camilla arrived in Washington, D.C. for a State Visit with President Donald Trump and our brave and bold First Lady, Melania Trump. Yesterday the schedule was light and soft, while today is the real meat and potatoes of the trip with a ceremonial greeting and State Dinner. It appears the protection services from both countries are comfortable with coverage after the contretemps at the White House Correspondents Association Dinner Saturday night.
A couple background items you should note is that King Charles III’s full title is:
Charles the Third, by the Grace of God of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland and of His other Realms and Territories, King, Head of the Commonwealth, Defender of the Faith.
Additionally, the King’s treatment for cancer is brutal and fatiguing so he has stopped the treatment for the State Visit to the United States and a solo trip to Bermuda.
Yesterday, Chief of Protocol Monica Crowley greeted the Royals at the airport in D.C. The First Couple greeted Charles and Camilla at the White House and then the couples enjoyed tea in the Green Room. The First Couples then visited Melania’s improved beehive The White House at The White House. From Town & Country:
One of the first stops King Charles and Queen Camilla made during their State Visit to the U.S. today was touring the new beehives on the White House South Lawn.
Both royals are passionate beekeepers—King Charles keeps at least three beehives at his private home, Highgrove House, while Queen Camilla produces her own honey at her home at Ray Mill House—and have a long love for apiculture. As the royal family’s official website notes, “The Royal Family are keen beekeepers, and beehives are a regular feature across the Royal Residences.”
The White House kitchen garden colony was started by First Lady Michelle Obama in 2009. It was improved three days ago by Melania Trump.

After the bees, King Charles III and Queen Camilla departed the White House for the British Ambassador’s residence and returned to Blair House to rest up for today.
This is the seventh State Visit by a British Monarch, including George VI in 1939. The Ambassador’s mansion on Massachusetts Avenue is the seat of the soft power. Lots of sandwiches but only 150 scones.
Today’s schedule from Times Now News:
Following an Inspection of the Troops and a Troop in Review led by the U.S. Army Fife and Drum Corps, President Trump will deliver remarks on the South Lawn. The ceremony will then close with a Pass in Review of 300 American service members, with nearly 500 total military personnel drawn from all six branches of the armed forces present. The White House has described this as a historic first for any State Visit.
The guest list for the ceremony is extensive. Alongside thousands of members of the public on the South Lawn, attendees will include Cabinet members, members of Congress, delegations from both countries, American military families, and students from the British International School of Washington.
Once the ceremony concludes, King Charles and Queen Camilla will sign the White House guest book and exchange gifts with the President and First Lady in the Blue Room. A receiving line with both delegations will follow in the Cross Hall.
Well, I would have like to go to that. A historic first. More:
The afternoon splits the two couples onto separate schedules. President Trump and King Charles will hold a bilateral meeting in the Oval Office. Meanwhile, First Lady Melania Trump and Queen Camilla will join a group of American students for an educational event at the White House Tennis Pavilion. Tied to Mrs. Trump’s Fostering the Future Together initiative, the session will feature virtual reality headsets for learning about the United Kingdom, alongside AI-enabled glasses used to explore American history and the Special Relationship between the two nations. Several state champions from the Presidential AI Challenge are among those expected to attend.
Tuesday evening ends with a State Dinner. The President and First Lady will welcome Their Majesties back to the South Portico before the dinner, which will be held in the East Room. Further details on the dinner are expected to be released by the Office of the First Lady ahead of the event.
King Charles III will also address. Poor guy. More on Wednesday:
The visit wraps up Thursday morning. President Trump and the First Lady will meet King Charles and Queen Camilla one final time at the South Portico before seeing them off from the Diplomatic Reception Room.
Hopefully, the visit will go sparklingly well. Don’t give the Democrats anything else to kvetch about.
