American Flag is Divisive Says New York Times

Remember those dark days after the 9/11 attacks when you could see the American flag flying everywhere? Flags flew from houses, businesses, and cars. Flying Old Glory signified our unity and told the world that we were down, but not out. It also served as a defiant middle finger to al-Qaeda.

For example, at the Chicago Cubs first home game after the attacks, baseball star Sammy Sosa circled Wrigley Field waving the American flag. The crowd cheered as the Dominican-born player held it aloft. As one YouTube commenter put it, “Whenever Sammy ran out to his position at Wrigley, he electrified the whole stadium. On this day…..he electrified an entire Nation.”

What has happened in the past twenty years?

According to the New York Times, Donald Trump happened. Nowadays if you fly the flag, your neighbors might eye you with suspicion. You might be one of those nasty Republican Trump supporters.

The NYT article, entitled “A Fourth of July Symbol of Unity That May No Longer Unite,” starts with the story of a farmer in Southold, NY. His name is Peter Treiber, Jr., and he sells produce at a local market. To advertise his farm, he uses an old potato truck with an American flag painted on its side. But one day a customer worried about his politics. She thought he was a conservative, even though he isn’t. Said Treiber:

“She said, ‘Oh, whew. You know, I wasn’t so sure about you, I thought you were some flag-waving something-or-other.'”

A “flag-waving something-or-other.” That’s how liberals regard people like us who display the flag — with contempt.

Near Treiber’s farms, a man named David Surozenski has a large flagpole in his yard from which he flies the American flag. Below it are two other flags — one for the Marine Corps and one for the Coast Guard, since he has children in each service. Surozenski is also a Republican.

But the NYT also told how his Trump supporting friends pressured him to place a “Make American Great Again” flag in his yard. He refused.

So what? (And if you believe that such arm-twisting happened everywhere during the election season, can I interest you in a bridge?)

But damn those pesky Trump supporters, says the NYT! They’re everywhere, besmirching the American flag.

The Times also wants to remind you that Trump supporters have used the flag at rallies, on media, and most notoriously at the January 6 Capitol riot. They’ve spoiled the flag for the rest of country, they imply, because now more thoughtful Americans associate it with Trump:

“Today, flying the flag from the back of a pickup truck or over a lawn is increasingly seen as a clue, albeit an imperfect one, to a person’s political affiliation in a deeply divided nation.”

Notice the slurs? The back of a pickup truck, meaning ignorant rural types. Or even the phrase over a lawn, because that screams white suburban dwellers. The elites at the NYT just can’t help themselves, can they? Contempt for patriotism is their default mode.

Sorry/not sorry, but don’t blame conservatives if the American flag has become a divisive symbol, as the NYT writes. The hate for America comes from the Left, not the Right. It comes from people like Nikole Hannah-Jones and her fraudulent 1619 Project, which says that American patriots fought the Revolution for slavery. Or racial identity groups who fume that the flag is a symbol of oppression. Or teachers unions who fill our children’s heads with the poison of Critical Race Theory. Universities that brainwash students with Marxism. And let’s not forget athletes Colin Kaepernick and Gwen Berry who sully sports with anti-American political stunts.

At my house we fly the American flag not as Republicans, or conservatives, but as proud and free Americans. We celebrate our independence. We pay tribute to those who served in the military, especially our fathers. Long may she wave from our home in the heartland. And if some people want to judge us, that’s their problem. They can sod off.

If this flag is so divisive why do people from other countries fly it ? and want to get in ( not the illegals). I remember seeing it as our fraudulent biden and harris visited other places. People were displaying it with pride and appreciation and showing just exactly what it meant ( freedom ). Even though the visiting frauds had no idea what it means.
Even Canada that has fallen to the marxist has tried to send there support across the northern boarder and ask for our help.
It stands for law and order. There should be no difference under the law but we see time and time again the two tiered injustice system and our courts are defuncted and political and make laws out of the ether ( roberts). Our whole system has been turned against WE THE PEOPLE !
New York and other New England states have always been on the wrong side, from the revolutionary to now.
In a divorce when two cannot live together, indeed when one is abusive, lawless, and frivolous with the finances there can only be one avenue left and that is divorce. Hate to disappoint you but the War between the States wasn’t all about slavery ( In no society should any human be subjected to another ! ) and the north ( then as now) put enormous pressure and the south. That most of those who are benefitting from the destruction were and are democrats’ .

I urge your readers to read the Constitution

” That to secure these rights that governments are instituted among Men, deriving there powers from the governed, That whenever any form of government becomes destructive of these ends, it is the Right of the People to alter or to abolish it, and institute new Government, laying its foundation on such principles and organizing its power to such form, as to them shall seem most likely to effect there safety and Happiness.”

The democratic socialist that run this country and are brainwashing the “useful idiots” These words are dangerous because they know that what they are doing is treason. To them they twist and turn these words and make it as one are traitorous, ITS THE CONSTITUTION, THE LAW OF THE LAND .
We are free people ! and that flag bought with blood and sweat is proof.

    Seen on my newsfeeds yesterday:
“There are two kinds of people in this country: people who love the American flag and what it stands for, and people who need to leave.”

    • Scott says:

Damn right Cameron! Good post Kim, and for any lefitsts that might be reading this F@#K off! We true Americans will celebrate “Ungrateful Colonist Day” any way we see fit, and won’t lift a finger to stop you leaving the country. Please feel free to denounce your citizenship on your way out the door!

I like Sarah Hoyt’s idea: we’ll buy each of them an inflatable and a can of shark repellent and give them a push toward Cuba.

  • Lewis says:

Thanks to you all! That is a great article and wonderful insightful posts!

Our little flag is flying perfectly on our back porch attached to a tree limb pole! It looks as big as the one that flew over my husband’s destroyer on the Mekong Delta! Bless us every one!

“American Flag is Divisive Says New York Times”

The NYT is divisive, say normal Americans.

  • Howard Hirsch says:

This controversy is unfortunately nothing new. I grew up in New York and am old enough to recall the 1970 US Senate campaign there in which Conservative party candidate James Buckley was roundly criticized for including a US flag motif in his campaign literature.

And while I agree with telling them to sod off, perhaps we ought to put the onus on THEM and ask THEM why they hate the flag and US so much.

  • Taylor says:

The New York Nazi Times is an absolute disgrace and has gone downhill ever since the young fool who inherited his position started running the paper.

  • GWB says:

The point is this, and always is this:
The goal is to 1) produce people who despise their own country, because those make better revolutionaries for the October Uprising, and to 2) divide the people so there are plenty of bourgeoisie, kulaks, and wreckers to put up against the wall when the revolution comes (they are necessary to inspire the revolutionaries to greater zeal).

  • Hinky Dinky says:

I have a friend whose husband participated in what he called “honk and waves” in the small city where he lives. What he called “honk and waves” consisted of a small group of people standing at an intersection downtown with signs supporting various left of center candidates and policies. They did get some honks and waves, but they also were the recipients of shouted profanities, being flipped off, and drivers revving their engines and even circling the block so they could go by the group a second time and rev their engines again. Guess what kind of vehicle was preferred by the people who revved their engines and then circled the block to rev their engines again? Pickups. They were the drivers also most likely to fly American flags. Were these drivers paying tribute to those who had served in the military when they tried to intimidate this group that simply stood on a corner peacefully advocating for various politicians and policies? I’m certainly not saying all pickup owners are jerks like the pickup drivers that tried to intimidate this group, bur there certainly was a high correlation. The funniest profanity shouted at the group was, “Go back to Mexico mother fuckers.” The group was all non-Latino whites. The group eventually quit doing their honk and waves because they thought it had become too risky because of the angry responses they received from some drivers. Now what did you say about hate coming from the left? It would be accurate to say it comes from both sides. Fly your flag wherever you want. Fly it on your pickup if you have one, Fly it on your suburban lawn. I don’t care, but I’m not buying your disingenuous simplistic take on this issue. “Go back to Mexico mother fuckers.” Yes, they certainly displayed what it means to be a true American through their respect of peaceful assembly…

    • Kim Hirsch says:

Your “husband of a friend” story sounds as contrived as your newest sock puppet name, Hinky. Or is it Stinky? Or Quentin?

      Sod off.

  • Hinky Dinky says:

It’s not contrived Kim. It’s true. They did their “honk and waves’ for at least a year and my friend’s husband attended them regularly. I’m sorry I stepped on your delicate sensibilities. If you find the truth that hate exists on the right offensive, I understand your need to protect yourself from this unfortunate reality. “Sod Off?” Can’t you do better than that? My first name is HInky, but it’s fine if you want to call me by my last name which is Dinky. Stinky was my nickname is grade school. It was something that started out as a joke with friends and wan’t meant in a mean manner, so it’s fine if you want to call me Stinky as well. You seem like a swell person by the way!

    • Kim Hirsch says:

“Sod Off?” Can’t you do better than that?

I could’ve told you to fuck off, but since I’m a swell person I decided not to.

My first name is HInky, but it’s fine if you want to call me by my last name which is Dinky.

I know your first name is Tom, but I won’t reveal your last name here since I’m a swell person.

I’m sorry I stepped on your delicate sensibilities.

      BWHAHAHAHAHAHA!

    • Kate says:

      Oh, Tom. You’re positively pathetic.

  • Hinky Dinky says:

Thanks for the replies, Kim and Kate. I’m certainly aware that awful behavior also occurs on the left, but this low quality, low readership blog exists in it’s on little bubble and can’t handle criticism. Bawahaha indeed, Kim. The writers on this site take offense when they’re treated in the same manner they treat others.I could give you some more examples of bad behavior on the right from the small city where my friend lives, which does have a reputation for bad behavior from the right, but I’m sure you wouldn’t believe me.

Kim, maybe you need to have a little chat with your pastor about your snarky attitude .Kate, do you ever do any real editing of the slop that makes it to this site?

    “Tom”

    • Kim Hirsch says:

So we can’t handle criticism? Why, because I didn’t believe your story about some randos in pickups saying mean things to lefty protesters? Let me tell you why I didn’t buy your story:

      1) You provided no proof. No details or links.
      2) You were kicked off commenting not too long ago, had a snit fit, and said you weren’t ever commenting again. Later you pop up with sock puppet names with dumb comments about boils on your ass and some such. Then you wonder why your credibility is garbage.

So you get triggered and insult us by calling our work “slop” and “low quality.” If you want to see someone who can’t handle criticism, I suggest you look in the mirror, Bucko.

But if we’re so bad, why do you keep coming back, like some Brokeback Troll who just can’t quit us? Why do you insist on ridiculing women who apparently don’t have enough caché or readership to influence anyone? I don’t think you’re a misogynist. I think it bolsters a sagging ego and gives you a thrill.

Oh, and about having a “little chat” with my pastor: I’m always amused when leftists want to lecture Christians about their behavior. They think that Jesus was some limp-wristed marshmallow who never judged anyone. Actually, He insulted his enemies and even physically beat men who were corrupting the temple in Jerusalem. You might google it, since I doubt you would know where to look in a Bible.

As for my pastor — he’s read my posts and commented a time or two. He’s also Latvian and knows what Marxists and Communists do to nations. He has no tolerance for the Left, especially the radical type that you grow in the PNW.

Kate is right — you are pathetic. A pathetic troll. And I’m done with you.
