Fresh off yesterday’s impeachment hearing, CNN reluctantly reported that an unnamed FBI official is now under criminal investigation. Why? Carter Page.Updated below
“An FBI official is under criminal investigation after allegedly altering a document related to 2016 surveillance of a Trump campaign adviser, several people briefed on the matter told CNN.
The possibility of a substantive change to an investigative document is likely to fuel accusations from President Donald Trump and his allies that the FBI committed wrongdoing in its investigation of connections between Russian election meddling and the Trump campaign.”
First of all, I’m completely surprised that CNN reported this. Secondly, I’m chuckling at how CNN framed that second paragraph. This new information is “likely” going to involve finger pointing from Trump and his allies?? Helloooo… where has CNN been since 2016? Oh yeah, that’s right. The entire network has been engaged in helping every which way they can to further the Orange Man Bad! narrative.
Given the fact that Adam Schiff and crew have been desperately seeking impeachment since the night of the 2016, this news about the Carter Page investigation is sure to cause them heartburn. Especially since the last two weeks of impeachment follies did not go as planned. Sure, there were some interesting moments throughout, but did ANY witness provide any information that gave Shiffy his long sought after GOTCHA? Nope.
On December 9, the FISA report will be released. Law & Crime framed it thusly.
“Conservatives and other allies of President Donald Trump have long believed there was something nefarious afoot when those multiple warrants were approved, but as Law&Crime previously noted, the judges who okayed that surveillance were all appointed by Republican presidents.”
Well, given that we are now finding out that an FBI official is under criminal investigation for altering documents prior to submission to those judges for the FISA warrants, is it any wonder that skepticism was rampant??
Not only that, but the Fusion GPS founders are trying to re-spin their dossier in their upcoming book. Supposedly, they are certain that “many of the allegations” are true and have been “remarkably prescient.” Given that they also admit that other information in the dossier still cannot be confirmed, I’m fairly certain that whatever allegations they claim are true are…NOT.
Given that Fusion GPS’s Steele Dossier was used as a reason for surveillance on Carter Page, this new information regarding the unnamed FBI official is quite amusing.
Wolf Blitzer looks like he swallowed a lemon during this report. How terribly painful it must’ve been for him and the rest of the CNN newsroom to learn about this information and then… have to report it! Actual journalism is super tough you guys!
This was CNN's chyron an hour ago, before they reported that an FBI official is under investigation for altering documents in the Russia probe. Great job guys! pic.twitter.com/z21MA87Ck2

Back to the CNN report. According to the wishful thinkers at the network, these types of mistakes don’t mean that the original premise of the FBI investigation was wrong. Yes, they wrote that with a straight face!
An unnamed FBI official is now under CRIMINAL investigation for altering a major document. Such alterations allegedly changed the document’s meaning to something else entirely. This was a document that was used to further the investigation into Carter Page. Now, I’m not an attorney, but to me this throws a massive kink into the credibility of the entire investigation.
Not only that, but IMO it also harms the credibility of any FBI involvement into anything to do with going after President Trump.
Yesterday afternoon, Adam Schiff opined that these impeachment hearings were necessary because an “unethical President” is a danger to us all. Unethical investigations led by unethical FBI agents are dangerous too.
This isn’t the only problem the FBI has right now. As reported via the National Review, the FBI had to tell Michael Flynn’s attorneys on Tuesday that it really was Peter Strzok that wrote the 302’s instead of Joe Pientka.
Wolf seems to be super duper worried as to how this news will benefit the President.
CNN is working overtime on behalf of the corrupt FBI officials who peddled false leaks to help CNN weaponize spy warrants against the network’s political opponents. “Altered documents”? More like fabricated evidence. https://t.co/OeTR92Xr8w

You know what? It will benefit the President. This news also benefits our Republic. As we’ve noted here on the blog time and again since the day after the 2016 Election, our Constitutional process was followed. Yet the Democrats, the media, and the Deep Staters have worked overtime to undermine the election results and this Republic.
You guys do realize that now that he’s come out in favor of impeachment the Democrats have got to refuse https://t.co/oNjrnPCpRo

Now their chickens are coming home to roost.
Exit question: Any bets as to who this unnamed FBI official is?
UPDATE: This morning CNN amended their story. It was an FBI lawyer who altered the document. CNN helpfully points out that it was a low level line attorney who made the changes. Question is, who directed him or her to make the changes?

NYT is already working to blunt any damage.
And, who else knew that the document(s) had been changed?
In the federal government, you cannot order paper clips without multilayered reviews, revisions and justifications. The “lower” the level the employee, the more the layers of review. It is nonsense to believe that many others in the FBI didn’t know of, and approve, the alterations.
