Pete Buttigieg rode in on his white horse to radio show, The Breakfast Club with Charlamagne Tha God yesterday morning in an appeal to black voters, to talk strategy for his campaign and of course, spotlight the LGBTQ agenda and offer curious twisted scripture and his take on abortion.
Most of the almost 40-minute long interview is a snooze fest. How people find this man to be “charismatic” is honestly lost on me. He’s monotone and lackluster for the most part. His vanity is apparent and on-par with Barack’s. And, his ideas are quite dangerous. Cue in to the following video at about 36:00:
Now, right now, [Republicans] hold everybody in line with this one piece of doctrine about abortion, right, which is obviously a tough issue for a lot of people to think through morally. Then again, there’s a lot of parts of the Bible that talk about how life begins with breath, and so even that is something that we can interpret differently.

This is The Word according to Pete Buttigieg. That life begins at first breath outside of the womb. Life does not begin when a mother-to-be hears a first heartbeat at that first prenatal checkup. Life does not begin when you see those grainy ultrasound photos of little hands and feet or when you get that elbow to the ribcage because your wee little “clump of cells” is doing backflips. Nor does it begin when this little being inside of you has a bout of the hiccups (weirdest feeling ever, by the way).
And never mind the fact that babies breathe in amniotic fluid. Why yes, Pete. After 5-6 weeks of a pregnancy, the umbilical cord develops to bring oxygen directly to the body of the baby. Mom breathes in for baby, mom breathes out for baby. But, go ahead and spout off your “biblical” truth.
So we can infer Buttigieg supports Bible teaching on the issue of homosexuality?

Not so fast. But ladies, don’t you just love it when (white) men lecture other men and women about their biblical interpretations of abortion? Oh, right, liberal women. I hear you. It’s not okay for a heterosexual male to lecture you on the topic but it’s totally acceptable for a white, gay man to impart his wisdom!
Pete was not yet finished riding on his white horse of sanctimony for Chalamnagne’s listeners. He talks more talk about prayer and “tuning our hearts and walking in a way that is better for humanity”. Pass me the Pepto, please.

We should spend less time praying to get God on our side and more time trying to figure out how to get on God’s side. We are taught that so much depends on how we treat people. People in our lives. But also people we have never met. In the case of generational justice, people we’ll never see. Are we being fair to them? Are we being good to them? Or are we being selfish?”-Pete Buttigieg
Yes, Buttigieg. What about the people we will never meet? The people we will never see? What about future generations?I personally would love to hear Mayor Pete throw out this to any of the “Shout Your Abortion” types but their heads are so far up their butt(igieg)s and some of them are probably coming off their last bender that it would be totally lost on the likes of them. Pete trusts women to “draw the line” on their own abortions. Even if they’ve had 3, 4, 5 or 6.
If you justify life beginning at first breath outside of the womb and abort a child out of the sheer concern that it is inconvenient for you and your lifestyle, yes, you’re being selfish. Yes, you are being unfair. And yes, God is watching and you need Him. If you do it more than once for the above concerns you for sure need Him. What you don’t need is a self-important, pretentious schmuck like Pete Buttigieg to lecture you on his twisted version of biblical truths. He can ride off on his white steed into the pit of hell for all we care. Giddy-up.

Ummm, no, there aren’t. There’s not a single scripture that states life begins with breath (but see below).
There are numerous passages that state breath is endemic to life, and the lack thereof is an indication of death. But that’s not the same thing as being THE indicator of life beginning.
(There are 82 occurrences of some variant of “breath” in the NIV* – breath (60), breathe (4), breathed (13), breathes (2), breathing (3). Most are Hebrew, and come from primarily two roots. The only two that indicate breath as the initiation of life are Genesis 2:7 and Ezekiel 37. In both cases the body was formed and breath brought them alive. The NRSV has 120+, but 30+ of those are from the Apocrypha, which is considered non-canonical for doctrinal purposes by a goodly chunk of Christianity.)
(* One of the bad things about the NIV is evidently they have to tweak it to keep a copyright on it, so the 1990 exhaustive concordance I used might not render the same count as one produced in 2019. But it should be very close. )

I would be willing to compromise (until such time as we can convince everyone to go a step further) with Mayor Pete here and only disallow abortions after 6 weeks. What say ye, Pete?!

No, Mayor Pete, it is not. How we treat each other should actually be massively separated from politics. It’s only the progressive religion that has made the State into god** that requires politics penetrate everything and enmesh itself with all that is. For two millennia “how we treat each other” was an intensely personal and small community (like a church or town) thing.

Oh, physician, heal thyself! This brings to mind when the chief priests prophesied “If we let Him go on like this, everyone will believe in Him.” (John 11:48) (I was going to mention Balaam’s ass, but with the homosexuality thing, that might get misinterpreted.)
In the case of generational justice
No such thing, according to God. The justice you do to succeeding generations is found in Deuteronomy 6:6-9 and 11:18-21. Also in Proverbs 22:6. These things are “generational justice.”
Mayor Pete is mocking God. Oh, he sounds so nice and sincere, but he is mocking the Almighty all the same.
Politically Ambidextrous says: The discussion needs to be on ‘*when* life begins’ not ‘*how* life begins’ (sorry, Pete). A belief that life begins at fertilization must also believe that the pill and IUDs are immoral and equivalent to abortion at any stage. A belief that life begins at implantation in the womb (i.e. pregnancy) can consistently believe that the pill and IUDs are OK and still be opposed to abortion at any stage.
Anytime after pregnancy begins gets into arbitrary boundaries and debate about when it *might* be “OK”. The problem with the ‘clump of cells’ terminology is that these form before pregnancy begins and therefore the pill and IUDs are morally equivalent to a late-stage abortion.
When should **the State** decide that life (and therefore murder) begins? a) fertilization, b) implantation/pregnancy, c) some arbitrary time after pregnancy, d) at birth? Hint: the only fully consistent (non-arbitrary) answers are A and D.
