Trump To Name Heather Nauert As U.N. Ambassador, Is She Qualified?

Who will take Nikki Haley’s place? That has been the question ever since she announced she would step down at the end of the year. Just last night, Jennifer Jacobs at Bloomberg broke the story. Trump plans to name Heather Nauert as the next Ambassador to the United Nations. Immediately people started asking if she has any qualifications to do the job.

President Donald Trump has decided to nominate State Department spokeswoman Heather Nauert to replace departing United Nations Ambassador Nikki Haley, according to three people familiar with the decision.

Nauert, 48, is an unorthodox choice for the UN role given that she had little experience in government or foreign policy before joining the administration in April 2017 after several years as an anchor and correspondent for Fox News, including on the “Fox and Friends” show watched by Trump. Haley also didn’t have foreign policy experience when she took the UN posting, but she had twice been elected governor of South Carolina.

Anderson Cooper couldn’t resist a subtle dig at Fox News.

Don’t get me started on David Gergen, Jen Psaki, or Brian Stetler. OOF.  Seriously guys, she’s a journalist! According to all of you, journalists are the BEST THING EVER and know ever so much more than anyone else! Just ask blowhard Jim Acosta, he’ll tell you!

But of course, all the usual suspects and more than a few others are not amused at this pick.

Well…bless their hearts. They just can’t help themselves.

Is Nauert’s lack of diplomatic experience a concern? A lot of people seem to think so. But remember, this is the United Nations. Right now, nearly 100% of the countries represented are doing their damndest to marginalize Israel. They are also working to criminalize any speech that criticizes illegal immigration.

The United Nations Global Compact for Safe, Orderly and Regular Migration seeks to make immigration a universal human right. MEP Marcel de Graaff said: “I would like to say some words on the global compact on migration. On the 10th and 11th of December there will be an international congress in Marrakesh Morocco. The participating countries are set to sign this agreement and although this joint agreement is not binding it is still meant to be the legal framework on which the participating countries commit themselves to build new legislation.

“One basic element of this new agreement is the extension of the definition of hate speech.

“The agreement wants to criminalise migration speech. Criticism of migration will become a criminal offence.

“Media outlets that give room to criticism of migration can be shut down. [Emphasis Added]

Shades of 1984!!

Guess what. You don’t need diplomacy to look the U.N. in the eye and tell them, ‘NOPE not going to play. Here in the United States we have this thing called Freedom of Speech and you will NOT be telling us what we can and cannot say.’ Italy, Switzerland, and Slovakia are already refusing to sign the compact. The U.S. needs to tell the U.N. to pound sand. Let’s hope Nauert has the same type of chops Nikki Haley has in order to do so.

As for Heather Nauert’s credentials, there’s more to her resume than being just a supposed hack Fox News journalist. She worked as a consultant dealing with social security, health insurance, and taxes. Diplomacy is needed to navigate those issues. Furthermore, she was also a member of the Council on Foreign Relations. So you know, she might know a thing or two about foreign relations by now!

In regards to credentials. Someone else’s credentials were lacking.

Needless to say, the confirmation hearing will be a circus. It’s a fair bet that the Democrats will be sharpening their knives. I’m positive that Cory Booker is gearing up for another Spartacus moment.

No matter which way you slice it, the next few days and possibly weeks are going to be interesting for Heather Nauert and the rest of us.

We might want to not get all roiled up about this until Trump tweets something about it. You never know if “sources” are deep state liars trying to move an agenda or people with actual knowledge.

Is Nauert’s lack of diplomatic experience a concern?
I’d prefer he appointed an old take-over crony. You know, the sort who comes in when you buy out a company only to liquidate it.
But, a lack of “diplomatic” experience is not really a concern once you understand that “diplomatic experience” is a euphemism for “holds the same viewpoints as Foggy Bottom and gets along well with human rights abusers.”

    On more than this item.

But, see, that makes ALL the difference as to qualifications! That marks her as a member of the technocracy.

I’ll wait and see how she presents herself and any policy positions.

No Obama supporter or staffer has any standing to criticize anyone else’s qualifications. Obama himself (anyone ever see those transcripts?) is STILL not qualified for any office, two years after wasting an 8-year term.
