New Yorkers who voted for Mamdani, this is your consequence. Mayor Mamdani, on Labor Day, has announced he will use YOUR taxpayer dollars to fund a new Worker Power Union.

Workers without unions will soon be able to leverage the resources of City Hall to help organize and have a voice on the job.

On Labor Day, Mayor Zohran Mamdani announced a new executive order to create the new Office of Worker Power, which will help workers connect with union organizers and educational resources to learn about their rights and, if they choose, organize their workplaces. The new office will also help workers who want to report labor law violations.

The office, the first of its kind in the nation, will be led by Tony Perlstein, a former longshoreman who most recently led the United Auto Workers’ organizing department. Perlstein will report to Julie Su, the deputy mayor for economic justice.

Julie Su was the U.S. Deputy Secretary of Labor under Joe Biden. So there’s that.

What’s interesting and infuriating about this is that Mamdani, Su, and the DSA’s bright idea involves using taxpayer dollars to fund their new Worker Power union.

Which is pretty interesting given some of the industries Mamdani speaks of, such as electrical and construction ALREADY have unions in place!

Is he trying to reinvent the wheel?

Evidently he, the socialist DSA kiddies, and Bernie Sanders have zero idea about current New York and federal laws involving unions and the organization of such.

“It’s remarkable that the Mamdani administration conflates being forced to pay a union with being protected from exploitation. The city shouldn’t be putting its thumb on the scale to squeeze more dues out of workers,” fumed Manhattan Institute Fellow Ken Girardin.

Ashley Ranslow, the New York State Director for the National Federation of Independent Businesses, likewise called the new office “deeply concerning.”

“Federal laws already protect workers rights to organize,” noted Ranslow, whose organization advocates for small and independent business owners.

And then there would be the negative impact on small businesses.

Small businesses are concerned that Su’s stated aim of getting “ahead of exploitation” will result in the city “now shifting to actively investigating small businesses even if there are no complaints filed against them,” Ranslow said.

“City government should not be interfering with a process that is between employees and the employer,” she said. “Small businesses should be supported, especially in a place like New York City where it’s unaffordable to keep the doors open and lights on, instead of having the deck stacked against them.”

The executive order that created the office also directs certain agencies — like the Department of Consumer and Worker Protection, the Taxi and Limousine Commission and the Commission on Human Rights — to develop “directed investigation procedures” for “workplace violations and other predatory practices when no complaint has been filed.”

Once again, Mamdani along with his socialist DSA pals have come up with a new plan to bleed New York City taxpayers dry. What’s that saying? Oh yes. 

“The problem with socialism is that you eventually run out of other people’s money.”

Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher was spot on.

Mamdani is writing checks that New Yorkers will soon have zero ability to cash.

What’s worse is that Mamdani, who has never EVER worked a real job in his life, is blatantly interfering in the economy because of fairness and reasons.

Here’s the kicker to this.

Mamdani signed the executive order in front of workers in the construction, hotel, caregiving, and food service industries. It builds upon a series of efforts to empower workers in New York City, like backing delivery drivers in their fight with Amazon over employee misclassification that denies benefits. The Mamdani administration has secured $104 million in tips for delivery workers by enforcing the law on deceptive tipping practices, and recently partnered with New York County District Attorney Alvin Bragg to enforce laws against wage theft.

The announcement also comes on the heels of a new report on inequality in New York City, showing that the top 0.1 percent received more than half of all New Yorkers’ income growth between 2019 and 2024, while real median incomes in the city fell.

It’s more than a little difficult to claim that the top 0.1% had income growth when Mamdani has spent the last year targeting the upper class with new taxes and penalties every month. And many of those in that upper class are leaving NYC in droves because of Mamdani’s policies.

But again, Mamdani, who is socialist to his core, is planning on using other people’s money to fund the new unions that will overlap and cause friction with well-established unions in the city.

Those who voted for Mamdani brought this upon themselves.
