Liberals: Trying To Be Relevant and Failing

Poor liberals. They’re facing yet another week where things just aren’t going the way they want. No matter what Pelosi and company do, it seems to backfire. At a time when they believed they’d have President Trump on the ropes, his approval ratings have skyrocketed. Fifty-three percent of likely voters now approve of his performance. How long until the liberals in Washington D.C. don their Stetsons and cowboy boots to do their version of “The Sidestep” from Best Little Whorehouse in Texas?

Let’s face it, they deserve all the backlash they’re getting these days. It was the height of hubris for Nancy Pelosi to announce earlier this week that the Dems would maintain control of the House in 2020. Since returning to the Speakership, she’s had to do a quickstep to try to keep all sides of her party happy–and she’s failed more often than not.

Now she’s had to table a budget plan vote because her own party members can’t come to an agreement. Republicans aren’t the problem, although Pelosi and friends do their best to cast the blame away from themselves. The Democratic Party is splintering. Fractures have appeared in its foundation.

The revolt over legislation to set federal spending is a setback for Speaker Nancy Pelosi and her deputies on the eve of their 100 day mark in the majority.”

This is simply the latest conflict between the Congressional Progressive Caucus and the Blue Dog Coalition, a more moderate wing of the party. As enjoyable as it is to watch the Democrats eating their own, their inaction presents a problem for the nation. The House controls the national purse strings. Anyone want to bet who they will try to blame if the government has to shut down again because they can’t reach an agreement?

But have heart, all who aren’t of the Democratic bent. The troubles aren’t confined to the House.

In the Senate, we have the resident socialist and opportunist, Bernie Sanders. He who only identifies as a Democrat when it comes to needing the backing of the party to run for President. He who extols the virtue of socialist principles. He who has finally admitted he is a millionaire and who, finally, says he will release his income tax returns for the last ten years.

Why is he finally doing so after so many years of refusing? Trust me, it isn’t because he wants to. But in this day and age of the Democrats demanding to see President Trump’s returns, every other candidate for president has been painted into a corner. They either release their returns or find themselves painted with the same brush as the President–and no Dem running for the Oval Office wants to be identified with its current occupant. After all, Trump Derangement Syndrome runs strong among all of them.

But Bernie isn’t the only problem the Senate Democrats have right now. A second former staff member from Sen. Maggie Hassan’s has been implicated in the doxxing of Republican senators during the Kavanaugh confirmation hearings.

Samantha G. DeForest-Davis, at the time a staff assistant to Hassan, was the aide who allegedly helped Cosko conduct his scheme, a source with knowledge of the situation told The Daily Caller News Foundation. Court records show a case naming her has been opened, and the source confirmed it relates to her alleged role in the data theft.”

Back on the House side of the Hill, the newest and most outspoken of the mini-Bernie clones, Alexandra Ocasio-Cortez, continues to open mouth and insert both feet. Her latest is the assertion that climate change is why all those poor illegal immigrants are trying to come to the United States.

Well, at least she’s consistent about the horse she likes to flog.

Nor is AOC the only problem Pelosi has within her own party. Fortunately for the rest of us, cameras are everywhere. So Pelosi and company can’t hide when party members like Maxine Waters show what petty tyrants they are. Rep. Waters is the new chairperson of the House Financial Services Committee. Boy, does she like to wield the power of the gavel.

Yesterday, Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin appeared before the committee and it didn’t take long for things to get heated. At one point, Sec. Mnuchin “requested to leave the hearing because of a meeting he said he had scheduled with a foreign leader.” Well, good ole Maxine didn’t like that one bit. How dare he have a meeting with a foreign leader and think that might be more important than testifying before her. Waters instructed him to cancel his meeting with the foreign leader and to “respect our [the committee’s] time.”

Wow. So the committee is more important than a foreign leader. I guess I shouldn’t be surprised Waters feels like this. She certainly give the impress that she believes she’s above most of the rest of us.

When Sec. Mnuchin responded by saying the Republicans hadn’t treated Democrats in his position this way, Rep. Waters dug her heels in.

[She] responded by telling Mnuchin that it is a ‘new day’ under her leadership.

‘This is a new way and it’s a new day. And it’s a new chair and I have the gavel at this point,’ she said.

Yep, she loves her gavel and the power it gives her. Forget about how it looks to the voters in Middle America. We don’t matter. At least that’s what they keep telling themselves.

But, never fear, they will try to create a smoke and mirrors atmosphere on Capitol Hill again. After all, we haven’t seen the Mueller report yet. The calls for an unredacted report, and all the underlying documentation, have already begun. They don’t care why Attorney General Barr is redacting certain information. They want it all and they’ll hold their collective breath until they turn blue to get it.

However, Barr is holding to his ethics and his spine, at least so far. When questioned about the redactions yesterday, during a hearing that was supposed to be about the President’s budget request for the DoJ, Barr responded as follows:

First is grand jury information…The second is information that the the intelligence community believes would reveal intelligence sources and methods.

The third are information in the report that could interfere with ongoing prosecutions. You’ll recall that the special counsel did spin off a number of cases that are still being pursued. And we want to make sure that none of the information in the report would impinge upon either the ability of the prosecutors to prosecute the cases, or the fairness to the defendants.

And finally, we intend to redact information that implicated the privacy or reputational interest of peripheral players where there is a decision not to charge them.’

Not that it will sway the Democrats from pursuing the information. They don’t care about the legalities involved. They don’t care about anything other than doing whatever they can to discredit the President and tear down the foundations of our country. The fact doing so will help build  a smokescreen to hide their own problems is only an added benefit in their eyes.

So, hearing that Trump’s approval ratings have increased, Pelosi and company must be shaking their heads, wondering what they have to do to bring him down. The shine has worn off their mid-term wins and alternative media outlets are keeping up the pressure. Pelosi promised the Dems will keep the House in 2020. Why don’t we make her a promise, one that will see this as her last year as Speaker and the last time the Dems hold the majority for a very, very long time?
