Iran Executes Wrestler Who Claimed Torture

This is your regularly scheduled reminder that Iran is an evil dictatorship.

The news is out internationally that despite the attention brought to the case of Navid Afkari, he has been executed.

Afkari, whose cause was taken up by the International Olympic Committee, as well as Amnesty International, was accused of murder and “crimes against the state” who claimed that he confessed under torture.

Afkari, a Greco-Roman wrestler, was arrested along with his brother Vahid Afkari in September 2018 and accused of stabbing to death a security guard the previous month during protests in the city of Shiraz.”

They were charged with murder along with offences such as “waging war against the state” for participating in the demonstrations. Navid Afkari was sentenced to death while Vahid Afkari and another brother, Habib Afkari, were sentenced to 54 and 27 years in prison respectively.”

Navid Afkari filed a complaint with the Iranian judiciary in September 2019, claiming he had confessed to the killing under torture. “The evidence is there if the court wants to investigate [the acts of torture],” Afkari said in a tape obtained by an Iranian human rights group.”

“There is not one shred of evidence in this damned case that shows I’m guilty. But they don’t want to listen to us. I realised they are looking for a neck for their rope.”

While a human rights group in Iran was busy defending Afkari and claiming that they had evidence that he was tortured, the Iranian judiciary continued to push forward on execution, claiming that the murdered guard’s family refused to accept any sentence but death. In fact, Afkari was sentenced to death TWICE.

Afkari had participated in the mass protests against political repression in Iran last year, and it is believed the regime wanted to make an example of him because of his high profile in the country. Authorities accused Afkari of stabbing a water supply company employee in the southern city of Shiraz during the protests.”

Courts in Shiraz had imposed two death sentences on Afkari, and six years and six months in prison and 74 lashes. One death sentence was imposed by a criminal court and one by a “revolutionary court.”

Even the involvement of President Trump and other international leaders wasn’t enough to slow the process.

So, was this actual justice? Not at all. Can we trust the Iranian judicial system? Nope. Would Iran use torture to get a false confession in order to punish someone for a murder they have no proof that the accused committed, and tack on “war against the state” for that extra oomph? Yes.

What did Ben Rhodes, fanfic writer of the Iran deal and smirking dipshit, have to say about this case? Nothing. President Trump can at least put in the United States’ official objection to the execution, but Rhodes has kissed so much official Iranian ass that he has nothing to say in this case.

Maybe we ought to reconsider just how much credit Joe Biden says Barack Obama ought to get for the current peace agreement beween Israel and the United Arab Emirates, which has started a domino effect of peace – PEACE!!! – in the Middle East. With Serbia, Kosovo, and Bahrain now all announcing normalized relations with Israel (and if Bahrain is doing so, there is real speculation that Saudi Arabia can’t be far behind, which would be a seismic shift in the acceptance of Israel by Arab Muslim nations), it is becoming clearer and clearer that Obama’s emboldening of Iran with the horrible “Iran Deal” and pallets of cash made the rest of the Middle East sit up and take notice that Iran becoming a nuclear power with terrorist tentacles across the region was a BAD IDEA. SO BAD, in fact, that they would rather make an ally of Israel than see a nuclear-empowered Iran do God-knows-what with their weapons. So, I suppose credit CAN be given to Obama for making the worst decision possible in regards to Iran, which led the rest of the region to take a second look at Israel.

Meanwhile, the Iranian people live and die at the whim of a system that has no issues with torture, and then televising confessions in order to justify their desired execution. Afkari’s family didn’t even get to say goodbye. Remember, Barack Obama, Joe Biden, and Ben Rhodes made a deal with THIS government with money and promises while scorning Israel openly – and Team Biden has said they want the Iran Deal back. The choice in the upcoming election is between those who have negotiated peace in the Middle East with countries uniting with Israel to stand against the terror-loving dictators of Iran, or more of the team that gave you the Iran Deal. Choose wisely.
