Hunter Biden has been more than a thorn in the side of his father Joe’s campaign. Not that the elder Biden needed help eating his own feet.
But Hunter’s entanglements in Ukraine have effectively neutered his father’s campaign when to comes to making hay off the impeachment frenzy. Joe Biden has been mostly silent while Kamala Harris, in particular, has been doing her best “leave Britney alone!” routine for ol’ Joe. And Biden continues to lose ground in pretty much every single poll as Elizabeth Warren overtakes him to become the media-blessed front-runner.
So Hunter is doing his dad a solid in an attempt to jump-start the campaign again.

But notice how Hunter phrases this, through his lawyer, in the Medium post that the Wall Street Journal linked to.
Hunter undertook these business activities independently. He did not believe it appropriate to discuss them with his father, nor did he. Hunter always understood that his father would be guided, entirely and unequivocally, by established U.S. policy, irrespective of its effects on Hunter’s professional interests. This was the standard observed throughout Hunter’s professional career. When Hunter engaged in his business pursuits, he believed that he was acting appropriately and in good faith. He never anticipated the barrage of false charges against both him and his father by the president of the United States.
Hunter makes the following commitment: Under a Biden Administration, Hunter will readily comply with any and all guidelines or standards a President Biden may issue to address purported conflicts of interest, or the appearance of such conflicts, including any restrictions related to overseas business interests. In any event, Hunter will agree not to serve on boards of, or work on behalf of, foreign owned companies.
He will continue to keep his father personally uninvolved in his business affairs, while availing himself as necessary and appropriate to the Office of the White House Counsel to help inform his application of the Biden Administration’s guidelines or standards to his business decision-making.
Let’s pick these paragraphs apart, shall we?
First, if Hunter Biden never expected that his lifelong habit of being a grifter trading off his father’s name wasn’t going to come back and bite them all in the ass during a presidential campaign, he is a fool. If Donald Trump hadn’t seized on it, you can bet your bottom dollar that one of the other Democrat primary candidates would have done it. (Cue Tulsi Gabbard.) This seems to be a Biden family failing. Yes, Hunter Biden has had a lot of personal family tragedy that was not his fault. But it’s fair to say that he’s continually screwed up many of his free passes in life, and Daddy was always there to make sure that there was a soft landing.
Second, note that Hunter only commits to following these guidelines under a BIDEN ADMINSTRATION. Nicely phrased, right? He pinky-swears to not make money off his father’s name – in foreign countries – just so long as Dad is president. How conveeeeeeeenient.
And in the last paragraph, he pretty much says “I’ll still take every chance that Dad gives me in the United States to live high off my last name and my connections. Because, after all, I’m a Biden, and I’m not allowed to fail. Daddy will make sure of it.”
Just a note for everyone who initially screamed about “attacking a candidate’s child” when it came to Hunter Biden – the guy is older than I am. To call him a “child” when he has daughters who are now legal adults is insane. Not that this is going to stop everyone from trying to protest on poor, poor Hunter’s behalf.
Buttigieg must really be counting on that vice-presidential nod from Joe Biden if he’s willing to carry water like that for Hunter.

Well, if it weren’t a problem, he’d stay on the board, so it must be a problem…
