The latest casualty in the War on American History and Monuments is Frederick Douglass, and the kindest thing that can be said about those who pulled the statue down is that they are idiotic sniveling cowards.

The media is still dishonestly attempts to frame President Trump’s speech on July 3rd at Mount Rushmore as some kind of defense of “Confederate statues” when he did not mention any sort of thing. Senator Tammy Duckworth of Illnois is now open to “listening to the argument” regarding taking down statues of George Washington and kept the smear going by claiming that Donald Trump was honoring “dead Confederates.”

The blatant lying is pretty breathtaking.

With so much abject stupidity being spread by the media and repeated by Democrats, is it any wonder, really, that the next target was Frederick Douglass? For those who need a quick primer on Douglass, I heartily recommend this Prager U video on the history of the man.

Both sides of the political aisle would like to lay claim to the legacy of Frederick Douglass. The activist left, in particular, really seized on his famous 1852 speech “What to the Slave Is the Fourth of July?” this year. NPR even had Douglass descendants read the speech. Now, it is a speech that every American should be aware of, because it gives heft and weight to the brilliance of Douglass, and gives us a glimpse into the pre-Civil War fight for emancipation. But even Douglass, in his famed speech, would not have condoned the left’s current attempt to sweep away American history.

Fellow Citizens, I am not wanting in respect for the fathers of this republic. The signers of the Declaration of Independence were brave men. They were great men too — great enough to give fame to a great age. It does not often happen to a nation to raise, at one time, such a number of truly great men. The point from which I am compelled to view them is not, certainly, the most favorable; and yet I cannot contemplate their great deeds with less than admiration. They were statesmen, patriots and heroes, and for the good they did, and the principles they contended for, I will unite with you to honor their memory.”

Douglass went on to excoriate the American people who had, up to that point, upheld slavery, and the Christian church as well, for tolerating slavery. But he defended the Constitution as “entirely hostile to the existence of slavery.”

Fellow-citizens! there is no matter in respect to which, the people of the North have allowed themselves to be so ruinously imposed upon, as that of the pro-slavery character of the Constitution. In that instrument I hold there is neither warrant, license, nor sanction of the hateful thing; but, interpreted as it ought to be interpreted, the Constitution is a GLORIOUS LIBERTY DOCUMENT. Read its preamble, consider its purposes. Is slavery among them? Is it at the gateway? or is it in the temple? It is neither.”

Well, we live among idiots who are proud of their ignorance of history, and so, Frederick Douglass became the next statue to fall.

Located in Maplewood Park, the statue “had been placed over the fence to the gorge and was leaning against the fence” on the river side, according to a statement from Rochester police. The statue was left about 50 feet from its pedestal.”

The base and lower part of the statue was damaged, as was a finger on the statue’s left hand.”

There is historical significance to the timing of the vandalism — though no one can now say whether the timing was mere happenstance — just as there is historical significance to the statue’s very location. The Maplewood Park location includes Kelsey’s Landing, where Douglass, Harriet Tubman, and others helped shuttle slaves to safety along the Underground Railroad.”

There are conflicting reports on whether the statue – one of 13 statues that were placed around Rochester, New York, in 2018 to honor Douglass’s 200th birthday – can be repaired or will have to be replaced altogether. Regardless, this illustrates what those who have been trying to protect statues from being pulled down or defaced this whole time have been saying. Those who want to destroy don’t care WHAT they are destroying or defacing, be it a monument to Civil War African American soldiers, abolitionists, or a statue paid for by freed slaves. They just want to wipe away all of history in the name of their glorious grievance revolution.

Those on the left want to blame white supremacists or some kind of “false flag operation” for pulling down Frederick Douglass. No suspects have been identified, so all options are on the table, but one has to admit that only one side of the political debate has been robustly vandalizing and tearing down statues without any regard for who they are or what they stood for.

The statue of Frederick Douglass can be replaced. The idiots who tore the statue down need to be found out and prosecuted, no matter who they are. And if the left is truly outraged by this, then they need to find the spine to tell the mob to stop the vandalism, not coddle them by saying that we need to “have conversations.”
