The poor femisogynists of America should prepare themselves for disappointment. As the absolutely disastrous campaign Wendy Davis has been running in Texas has continued to be a disaster, she’s being abandoned by the rank-and-file Democrats who were salivating over the opportunity to turn Texas blue just a few short months ago. The Democratic Governors Association is officially giving up on the Davis campaign.
Despite the hype surrounding Texas Democrat Wendy Davis’s run for governor, the chairman of the Democratic Governors Association didn’t include her state in a list of top targets in 2014.
Ms. Davis, a state senator, gained national acclaim for filibustering a bill last year that increased regulation of abortion clinics and banned abortions after 20 weeks of pregnancy. Polls show Republican nominee Greg Abbott with a double-digit lead in the state, which hasn’t elected a Democrat since 1994.
“We’re hopeful in Texas but we all understand that Democrats haven’t won Texas in a long time,” DGA Chairman and Vermont Gov. Peter Shumlin told reporters Tuesday at the Third Way think tank. He added, “We hope this will be our year.”
Wendy Davis’ campaign manager, Karin Johansen, had a laughable response:
“The uninformed opinions of a Washington, D.C., desk jockey who’s never stepped foot in Texas couldn’t be less relevant to what’s actually happening on the ground,” Johanson said.
“The Davis campaign is constructing an operation never before seen in Texas that’s built on the hard work of 15,000 volunteers who knocked on more than 55,000 doors in one weekend, more than 120,000 individual donors and a candidate who is exciting voters in a way not seen since Ann Richards’ come from behind victory,” Johanson said.
Really? It’s interesting she sees it that way, considering that the campaign is floundering, and has been for months. The campaign was DOA anyway, but then Davis got caught lying about her background and was exposed as an overly ambitious gold digger, flip-flopped on her key issue every chance she got, and — perhaps most importantly — believed her own hype. Most of her support from the very beginning came from outside of Texas, from activists bussed in by Planned Parenthood’s Cecile Richards. Now she’s trailing by a very, very large margin behind Greg Abbott, and she’s losing not only to the rich old white men that liberals so love to complain about, but to Hispanics and women as well.
Why, it’s almost as if most people aren’t going to be enthusiastic about a one-note candidate whose sole claim-to-fame was fighting for the right of women to have late term abortions.
