Cuomo Hearing Calls To Resign From NY Democrats

Andrew Cuomo can probably hear the clock ticking down on his gubernatorial career, and with it the end of his political aspirations.

Now, let’s be absolutely clear. Cuomo, along with his top aides, should be indicted for obstruction of justice for covering up the number of deaths in nursing homes last year. We have learned within the last week that the Cuomo aides deliberately rewrote the reports to undercount the numbers of dead in nursing homes. As we have learned, the numbers were cooked so that Cuomo could write a book proclaiming his sheer awesomeness in combating COVID – he was so much better, smarter, and eloquent than the Bad Orange Man! He had the media in his pocket, eating everything he said up! That death toll in the nursing homes was – to borrow a phrase – “an inconvenient truth.” So his aides “fixed” it for him – while he continued to deny that he was ever at fault.

The problem is that very few New York Democrats – Assemblyman Ron Kim is one of those few – asked any questions about the nursing homes until the cries of the families became too loud to ignore. And the liberal media had gotten well and truly high off of Andrew Cuomo’s flatulence, blowing their credibility to smithereens. So as the Creepy Ship Cuomo began to take on water after his iceberg of ego ripped the seams in the hull, the media began looking around for something, anything, that would allow them to disassociate from Andrew Cuomo.

What a convenient time for some harrassment accusations to appear. Now, I do believe that Cuomo should be held accountable for the alleged repeatedly abhorrent behavior with which he treated certain members of his staff. However, with the exception of Lindsey Boylan’s account, there is not much physical force at play. Intimidating and gross, yes. But nothing on par with a rape accusation, or, say, what Tara Reade accused Joe Biden of doing.

But these accusations are providing New York Democrats with what they need – cover. It’s so much easier to point at sexual harassment allegations and say “how horrible, he must resign” than pointing at the nursing home death count that should have – and did! – alarm those who were supposed to be paying attention and say “how horrible, he must resign.”

And now that the magical number of women speaking up about Cuomo’s ugly behaviors has hit five, state Senate Majority Leader Andrea Stewart-Cousins wants him out. She had previously said that her limit was four accusations. Well, she got more than she bargained for.

And Stewart-Cousins is not the only voice speaking up.

Senate Majority Leader Andrea Stewart-Cousins, a Democrat from Yonkers, said Sunday that, “for the good of the state Governor Cuomo must resign.” Assembly Speaker Carl Heastie, a Democrat from the Bronx, said, “We have many challenges to address, and I think it is time for the Governor to seriously consider whether he can effectively meet the needs of the people of New York.”

Mr. Cuomo, a Democrat, said during a Sunday press call before the legislators’ statements that he was “not going to resign because of allegations.” He asked people to withhold their judgment pending an independent review of the workplace accusations that will be overseen by State Attorney General Letitia James, a Democrat.

The governor said calls for his resignation were rooted in political concerns. He said he wouldn’t be distracted from his work overseeing coronavirus vaccinations and crafting a $193 billion state budget that is due by April 1.

Spokespeople for Mr. Cuomo didn’t immediately respond to the legislative leaders’ statements.

Now, Andrew Cuomo is not going to go. And if he’s forced out, he won’t go quietly. Even before these top Democrats began calling on him to resign, Cuomo signaled that he’s willing to go for total war, by saying that state legislators might not want their dirty laundry aired to the public.

“JCOPE” is the acronym for the New York state Joint Commission On Public Ethics. By bringing up JCOPE, Cuomo is not-very-subtly hinting that some of these legislators might not want to force him out, lest he burn down the house and salt the earth on his way out the door.

Republican leaders in New York are calling on Stewart-Cousins to begin impeachment proceedings now.

Cuomo continues to have his bad days stack up. His political future might be gone, but you better believe he is going to hold on to the keys to the Governor’s Mansion until he is voted out or forcibly removed. Let’s see if the Democrats of New York have the political will to stand up to Andrew Cuomo.
