On Wednesday near Pittsburgh, President Joe Biden unveiled a whopping infrastructure plan that carries a price tag of over $2 trillion dollars. He called it “big” and “bold,” and he probably hopes this will cement his legacy as a 21st century FDR.

Biden said of his plan:

“It is not a plan that tinkers around the edges. It is a once-in-a-generation investment in America.”

I don’t know about you, but when a Democrat touts an “investment in America,” I’m expecting massive tax hikes on the middle class.

You’d think the American Jobs Plan would please Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez. But noooo — she’s says it’s not enough.

She tweeted:

“This is not nearly enough. The important context here is that it’s $2.25T spread out over 10 years. For context, the COVID package was $1.9T for this year *alone,* with some provisions lasting 2 years. Needs to be way bigger.”

It’s never enough for Socialist Barbie, is it?

However, a mere $650 billion is supposed to go to actual US infrastructure, with another $300 billion for housing. That means that only 5% of this monstrosity is going to roads and bridges. The American Jobs Plan is just smoke-and-mirrors, since everyone wants money to go for the roads they travel on. “Shovel-Ready Jobs,” anyone?

So where would the rest of the funds go?

It’s slated for things like electric vehicles, cyclist safety, Amtrak, waterways, industrial clean energy, and public transit, among other green projects. To top that off, Biden also calls for creating a “Civilian Climate Corps,” although at this time no one seems to know what that is.

Other spending would go for social programs, like workforce training, affordable housing, new schools, and child care facilities. The American Jobs Plan also wants $10 billion to ensure that workplaces are ‘free from racial, gender, and other forms of discrimination and harassment’.

Finally, Joe Biden is planning to raise corporate tax rates from 21 percent to 28 percent in order to pay for all this. So you’d think this is the stuff of AOC’s dreams, right?

Instead, Ocasio-Cortez told Rachel Maddow on Wednesday evening that she wants $10 trillion over the next ten years.

As you might expect, former President Donald Trump had words about the Biden plan, and they were typical blunt Trump:

“If this monstrosity is allowed to pass, the result will be more Americans out of work, more families shattered, more factories abandoned, more industries wrecked, and more Main Streets boarded up and closed down. . . “

Former House Speaker Newt Gingrich also added that American Jobs Plan would kill jobs, not create them.

“So, today, we have President Biden, who is calling to immediately raise all domestic corporate taxes by one-third (from 21 percent to 28 percent), set a minimum 21 percent tax rate for multinational U.S. corporations, raise taxes on oil and gas companies (which will cause the costs of gasoline, heating oil, and plastic to skyrocket), and levy a host of other new tax measures across the economy.”

Gingrich also warned that additional taxes on corporations would have dire consequences on the middle class.

“All of these measures will mean that the companies that employ people will have to lay them off. Construction companies will have fewer workers to complete large infrastructure projects—and the projects themselves will have higher price tags because it will cost more to run the machines necessary to do the work.”

Joe Biden is also counting on the ignorance of Americans who think that soaking businesses is a good thing. But when corporate taxes go up, businesses respond to protect their bottom lines. And they do that by raising prices on their products, as well as laying off workers, as Gingrich pointed out.

But, but, didn’t Joe Biden also promise that only people making over $400,000 would pay a Federal income tax increase? Eat the rich! you know. It’s only moral and just, according to socialists like AOC.

Right. And if you believe that, I have a bridge to sell you.

The wealthy are not static. They aren’t going to sit on their hands, waiting for the tax man like a condemned criminal awaits his execution date. No, they’re going to protect their wealth. And when government can’t get enough from the Evil Rich, guess whose pockets they’ll pick next? Right — government will come after the middle class.

Speaker Gingrich advises the Biden administration to recall some American history from 1791, when Alexander Hamilton and, yes, President George Washington enacted the Whiskey Tax on Pennsylvania farmers.

The result was the Whiskey Rebellion. Gingrich noted that taxpayers began ambushing tax collectors, stripping them naked, tying them to trees, and stealing their horses. (Could we do that to members of Congress who support the Biden bill? Asking for a friend).

The tax collectors quit trying to collect the whiskey tax. Eventually President Washington had to send in militia to quell the rebellion, and by 1802, President Thomas Jefferson repealed the tax.

Let Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez stamp her feet. Americans need to wise up that this “infrastructure” bill is, “the Green New Deal under a new name,” as GOP Rep. Steve Scalise called it. And even though White House spokesperson Jen Psaki says that the Biden administration is willing to work with Republicans, GOP members need to toughen their spines and tell Biden, AOC, and other progressives to sod off. This plan is a disaster in the making.
