Erasing history by destroying statues teaches us nothing. But the THUG protestors in Durham, North Carolina will never understand that. This is what they deemed to be the solution to fixing the Civil War:

What statue was it?
WNCN reports the statue was dedicated in Durham in 1924 and was located in front of a local government building.
The statue represented a soldier who fought in the Civil War and an inscription on the front read “The Confederate States of America.”
Let’s take a look again at the THUGS wanton destruction.

What was their reason for doing this?
One organizer of the protest told WNCN that toppling the statue was in response to the violence at a white supremacist rally in Charlottesville, Va. this weekend.
“It needs to be removed,” organizer Loan Tran told the news station. “These Confederate statues in Durham, in North Carolina, all across the country.”
Well, it seems far too many people agree with Tran and his fellow ugly band of destroyers.
Monuments and statues have been removed in New Orleans, Kentucky is seeing a push to have all Confederate or Civil War statues completely destroyed, and Baltimore is planning to do the same.
Here’s the thing, folks. Doing this WON’T change our past. Destroying monuments won’t make what happened before/during/after the Civil War any less ugly, horrifying, and shameful as it was.
What the THUG protestors who want to erase any and all bit of Confederate history—as if it will be THAT that will make the KKK, white supremacists, and neo-Nazis disappear into the mist—don’t understand is this:
George Orwell would be sickened at what is happening in our Republic right now. I know I am. We all should be.
What these THUGS are doing in so-called retaliation against a group that they don’t agree with bears too much of an uncomfortable resemblance to what ISIS has been doing in regards to destroying centuries-old artifacts, monuments, and temples.
We should all be sickened and revolted by what the KKK, Nazi, and Socialistic groups are doing and what they stand for. Our recourse should be to shine a very bright and VERY uncomfortable light on who they are, what they stand for, and the past— painful as it is—that they represent. Destroying parts of our history that are painful and uncomfortable won’t solve a damn thing. The destruction of the monument in Durham, North Carolina today is the equivalent of turning the light off and letting hate continue to grow.
With a nod to the philosopher George Santayana: Those who refuse to learn from ALL of history are slated to make the same mistakes over and over again.

They probably cannot even read a history book, let alone understand it, and definitely could not grasp the intricacies of the past of this country, and the world at large. They should go back to sipping lattes and discussing the kardashians, and let the adults run things for a while. I cannot describe how much this kind of crap sickens me, and that’s as the ancestor of folks who fought on both the northern and southern sides, I say arrest and prosecute each and every one of these asses to the fullest extent of the law! They did a great job of recording their crime, since they’re so proud of it, it should be a slam dunk for any half decent prosecutor!
Rob says: History won’t change at all, regardless of your view, but like the mayor of New Orleans said- how do you explain to a five year old black girl that a racist fighting to retain slavery is worthy of a huge monument glorifying him?
GWB says: Wish I had been there for that. I consider destruction of public property, especially monuments honoring our war dead, to be a violent felony. And I would have defended the statue in the necessary fashion.
I am sick of these fascists and communists. Period.
