AOC Wears Politics At The Met Gala

The Met Gala is an annual LOOK AT ME!!! event that takes place in New York City. It is a fundraiser for the Met’s Costume Institute and always features famous people and over-the-top costumes masquerading as evening wear.

Last night, after a one-year delay due to Covid, the Met Gala held its soiree. If you want to see a photo grouping of the attire worn at last night’s festivities, you can check that out here. Two things to note. 1. This was a gala to celebrate American fashion. How come the majority in attendance didn’t wear American designers? How come no one showed up in a vintage American classic? That would’ve been amazing! 2. I don’t know what the hell the boys were wearing, but it was the furthest thing from masculine American that I’ve ever seen.

How much money over the years has the Met Gala raised for the Costume Institute, since Vogue’s Anna Wintour took over the event in 1995?

According to a Forbes report from 2017, during Wintour’s time at the helm of the event, the Met Gala had raised over $175 million for the Costume Institute.

The event consistently pulls in eight-figure sums. The 2016 event reportedly raised $13.5 million, 2017’s party brought in just over $12 million and in 2019 a record $15 million was raised.

Yes, that’s a great deal of money and preserving fashion art IS important. All that to say, this year’s Met Gala took a wee bit of a dive into politics. First you have that kneeling failure of a soccer player.

Gosh, little glitter stars glued on to her fingers? How quaint! How edgy! How BRAVE.

Then we find out that someone paid for AOC’s ticket to the prom! Come to find out, AOC’s knowledge of art and fashion is about as deep as her knowledge of business and garbage disposals is.

AOC wants to tax the rich. How bold of her! Especially considering that she’s at the Met Gala. A Gala she’d never be invited to if she hadn’t been elected Congresswoman. A Gala that costs a LOT of money to attend. An event even she, on her Congressional salary, can’t afford. By the way, if you are going to wear a white dress, perhaps the designer should ALSO have the tulle be…white instead of a very off shade of ivory? Just saying.

Additionally, AOC proffered up the claim that her designer is an immigrant, knowing full well her followers will assume James is an immigrant from some place like Somalia or some such. NOPE. She’s from Toronto. As in Canada.

Individual tickets are at $30,000 a piece. Not for a table of 8. Nope, ONE ticket costs $30K. A table can run upwards of $275K. So the Met Gala is a rich man’s party. AOC and the designer of her dress really REALLY missed that memo.

But her style collaborator Aurora James of Brother Vellies said it was the perfect venue for such a sartorial statement.

“We can never get too comfortable in our seats at the table once they’ve been given,” James, founder and creative director of Brother Vellies told Vogue.

“We must always continue to push ourselves, push our colleagues, push the culture and push the country forward. Fashion is changing, America is changing. And as far as this theme goes, I think Alexandria and I are a great embodiment of the language fashion needs to consider adding to the general lexicon as we work towards a more sustainable, inclusive, and empowered future.”

Empowerd, inclusive, and sustainable futures. Sounds fabulous! Except you both were parading around with tons of people who have accountants busy ensuring the money they make isn’t taxed to death. Except that AOC was parading around in a costly gown attending a $30K per plate dinner in a town where she, by shutting down Amazon, cost Queens residents hundreds of jobs and the city long-term tax revenue.

No worries! Whomever bought her ticket, is likely hoping they’ll get their money’s worth out of some piece of legislation tied to her Green New Deal crap. Meanwhile, while AOC hobnobs with the popular kids, those working the gala are in full MASK ON! attire.

Uh huh. About all that mask stuff and Biden’s latest vaccine mandate drive…

Here’s something else. While AOC was parading around in her ‘Tax the Rich’ dress and men were wearing quilts, kids in NYC schools are required to wear masks in the classroom, on the playground, and when playing sports. The arrogant hypocrisy and Covid theatre was deep and wide last night at the Met Gala.

As for AOC, she got a coveted invitation to the prom because Anna Wintour knew the brainless twit would put on a show, and boy did she perform to expectations!
