A 24 hour hunger strike? Standing with signs at the border for the cameras? Hollywood has arrived at the U.S.-Mexico border, and they are prepared to stand there! At least until the cameras go away.
Yes, all the usual suspects have arrived for their photo-op.
Lena Dunham, Sia, Amber Heard and other stars visited the border city of Tornillo, Texas, to protest the Trump administration's policy that separated migrant children from their parents.https://t.co/mpU8NCIKR8 pic.twitter.com/VhtnzU3uH4

*snort* Looks like she fixed it for the group shot.
Actress Evan Rachel Wood actually got into one of the shelters, bringing supplies and playing with the kids before announcing her own hunger strike.
Like Wood actually went shopping for all the donated items herself.
Certain organizations, like The Red Cross, have not been “given permission” to donate supplies.
But you can. #EvanInTX #KeepFamliesTogether pic.twitter.com/2eL6V4bl2z— #EvanRachelWould (@evanrachelwood) June 24, 2018
The Red Cross statement is actually a lie, and one the Red Cross is actively refuting.
Please note we’ve had discussions with federal officials to see if there is a way we can help, but no one is “banning” us from anything, and if there is a role for the Red Cross to play, we will.

But back to Wood’s carefully planned visit and publicity stunt.
Just hung out with some of the families at one of the shelters people are sent to while they are being processed. Played with the kids for hours. They were so sweet, insanely smart, and creative. They have obviously been thru a lot and need supplies and medicine. #EvanInTX pic.twitter.com/lZ5vNTSOPm

Actress @evanrachelwood is here today in McAllen, Texas, in front of the Border Patrol immigrant processing center where many immigrant kids separated from their parents are being held.

Fasting is a form of non violent protest and I was happy to be a part of their ceremony in Texas this morning and carry the strike another 24 hours before it is passed to the next person. https://t.co/pMDC8LUaEB

And some bigger names are joining in the “hunger strike” domino protest.
USA Today reported that the hunger strike, partially organized by the Robert F. Kennedy Human Rights organization, began Saturday near a federal courthouse in McAllen, Texas, where many immigrants detained for illegally crossing the border are referred for prosecution.
The strike will reportedly last for 24 days to represent the roughly 2,400 children forcibly separated from their families after being apprehended at the border.
Protesters will fast for 24 hours before handing off to someone else.
Actors Levar Burton, Alec Baldwin and Martin Sheen are all participating in the hunger strike, as are 10 members of the House and a senator, according to the newspaper.
A fast for an actor or actress is not a hardship, especially when it’s for 24 hours, and the second it’s over, they can have their next meal delivered to wherever they are. In their rush to virtue signal about the border – which even Wood admits that she was “ill informed” while Obama was president – I wonder why…
I wasnt aware of these policies before. I took things for granted and was ill informed. The policies have since gotten worse and more attention is on it now, so I am here now. Were you there then? And where are you now? https://t.co/QXbrbnn9hn

… what’s getting lost in the glare off the celebrity sunglasses is the harsh realities of what the Border Patrol has had to deal with for YEARS. Just listen to National Border Patrol Council spokesman Chris Cabrera, who tries to describe to CNN’s Brooke Baldwin what is really happening on the ground, away from the cameras.
If the media were witnessing what he and his fellow agents have been witnessing, Cabrera said, they wouldn’t be advocating for policy which would act as an incentive for more parents and guardians to send their children to the border alone. He stated, “Right now we have this beacon of, ‘We’ll leave the light on for you, you come across illegally and we’ll let you into the country.’ And if you guys have seen some of the stuff we’ve seen down here, you’d understand how important it is to have a tough stance to divert people from coming here.”
Cabrera explained that he’s witnessed pre-teens traveling to the border alone with their parents’ expectation that they would be raped in the process, and adolescents dying in front of him from heat stroke on the their journey.
“When you see a 12-year-old girl with a Plan B pill, or their parents put her on birth control because they know getting violated is part of the journey, that’s just a terrible way to live. When you see a 4-year-old girl traveling completely alone with just her parents’ phone number written across her shirt. I mean, come on now, something needs to be done,” he said. “We had a 9-year-old boy last year have heat stroke in front of us and die with no family around, and that’s because we’re allowing people to take advantage of this system.”
“If we want this law changed,” he said, “we need Congress to take action.”
Why don’t the celebrity protesters go to Mexico and beg people not to cross into the United States illegally and spare themselves this problem? Why can’t they urge those seeking asylum to do so lawfully at a port of entry, instead of trying to cross the border illegally? Why don’t they go to the government of Mexico and tell them to get a hold on the crime and gang problems? (Not likely, since the leading candidate in Mexico’s presidential election apparently called leaving Mexico to live in the United States “a human right” and it looks like nothing will continue to be stable under his administration, should he be elected.)
Why aren’t the celebrity protesters going to Capitol Hill and standing on the steps there, demanding that their Democrat friends in Congress actually DO SOMETHING to fix the immigration system? (We know they don’t have any Republican friends.)
Or maybe this isn’t about immigration, or the children at the border, at all. Maybe this is just about scoring some cheap virtue points while trying to stick it to Trump. After all, these are admitted “ill informed” celebrities. Hasn’t anyone decided to educate themselves about how the laws and court rulings in this country work?
They’re actors and performers, and they’re playing a role right now. They aren’t there for any children or family, they are there for themselves. The signs they carry should say “LOOK AT ME LOOK AT ME, I’m play acting to remain relevant and seem important!”. These leftie, virtue-signaling phonies were not “ill informed” during the Obama administration, they were willfully ignorant, they chose to not see whatever would tarnish their exalted ruler. Take your acting skills back to the studio and produce something of value.
The strike will reportedly last for 24 days to represent the roughly 2,400 children forcibly separated from their families after being apprehended at the border.
Why not 2,400 days? I could get behind that.
But none of this relay fasting BS! I wanna see you ACTUALLY fast. 24 hours is NOT fasting, it’s getting ready for blood work at the doctor’s office. It’s dieting (badly).
The policies have since gotten worse
No, they have not. It’s simply that 1) now the law is being enforced and 2) due to 0bama’s incitement more people have shown up.
Why can’t they urge those seeking asylum to do so lawfully at a port of entry, instead of trying to cross the border illegally?
Why can’t they encourage those people to apply for asylum in the first safe country they enter as international standards require?
(If your answer is that the US is the first safe country, then you’re really arguing for colonialism – that the U.S. should invade and take over every single country in the Americas.)
Hasn’t anyone decided to educate themselves about how the laws and court rulings in this country work?
Hey, they didn’t teach that in schruel (ty, Rush) so it must not be important!
These idjits are the epitome of the Dunning-Kruger effect.
I’d love to see just how much cash and merchandise Patagonia is providing this mob of virtue-signaling pretenders. Patagonia was once one of the best outdoor clothing and equipment manufacturers in the US. It’s just another made-in-Pakistan/China/ Vietnam/etc. liberal front now.
So you’re saying that the left only “cares” about brown kids if they speak Spanish, not brown kids from Pakistan/China/ Vietnam/etc.?
I was actually asking if Yvon Chouinard was bankrolling this comedy, but yes, I think that’s true. Very much like Hillary screaming about women’s rights while accepting “donations” from countries with atrocious histories of abusing women and girls. Remember, it’s not hypocrisy if it’s done by the left.
They do love their housekeepers, landscapers, maids. Future democrat voters matter comrade.
Forward! The Great Leap Forward.
An excellent posting on an important point: the open, unapologetic hypocrisy and immaturity of the Left today. Thank you.
Does anyone else find it absurd that this evil clown, Lena Rodham-Dunham, only 18 months ago apologised to her unhinged fans for not yet having had an abortion and expressed the wish that she had and yet is now at the Mexican border where children are being safely sheltered claiming to feel the pain of “the children who are alone, the parents who are grieving” because they’ve been temporarily separated.
Murdering an unborn child is OK but temporarily sheltering them apart from their irresponsible parents is Hitlerian. These people are unhinged and don’t even care that we see it.
