Twisted Scripture In Texas: Talarico Style

As an megachurch attendee in exile, I’ve heard plenty of twisted scripture in my days that made a few eyebrows in the sanctuary raise. But the scripture, according to James Talarico, who beat out Jasmine The Potty Mouth Crockett, is something to behold.

James Talarico is not getting up on his pulpit justifying his multi-million dollar home and sports car as “God’s promises” whilst asking for your first fruits. James Talarico has a special way of twisting the Bible to benefit his left-leaning ideology that got him the vote. Remember Beto O’Rourke who put one of his kid’s turds in a bowl and told his wife it was avocado? Hold my Twisted Tea…

James Talarico believes in God. This is where things get FUBAR. James Talarico also believes God to be nonbinary. He further believes that Jesus condoned homosexuality because “it wasn’t mentioned in the New Testament”. Talarico, in fact, is very impressed with his Biblical knowledge (and himself):

His approach may be different. But James Talarico is just as bad as the “intolerant” Christians he talks about. You know the ones. The ones who think God is a HE. The ones who think the trans-ing of children is child abuse. God is nonbinary, after all:

The first two lines of the Bible, the first two lines in Genesis, use two different Hebrew words to describe God: one is the masculine Hebrew noun for divinity; the second is the feminine Hebrew noun for spirit. God is both masculine and feminine, and everything in between. God is nonbinary.”-James Talarico

The roaring lion Talarico is not. He speaks gently. He is not at all bombastic. He looks like an altar boy with his side-part and clean-shaven, youthful face. Harmless, right?

Here’s where things get more twisted. James Talarico believes mortal humans create man in OUR image:

That’s the infinite multitude of God, the masculine, the feminine, and everything in between. Trans children are God’s children, made in God’s own image. There’s nothing wrong with them, nothing at all. They are perfect, they are beautiful, and they are sacred.”-James Talarico

The same God who knew us before we were formed in our mother’s womb, who knows every hair on our heads. He destined us to be the perfect, beautiful, sacred humans in HIS image. He destined us to be male or female, excluding the few and far between cases of hermaphroditism.

Children ARE perfect. And no, children should NEVER be bullied. But, children are perfect AS THEY ARE. Adults encouraging them to mutilate themselves beyond recognition before they grow into their own bodies and have the sense to understand the gravity of what they are doing to themselves physically and mentally IS, in fact, bullying. Adults encouraging them to think about their sexual orientation, to obsess on it even, before they know how to say their ABCs or do basic math, is, indeed, the act of the devil.

It is no shock to us then, that James Talarico, received his Masters in EDUCATION from Harvard. I can see liberal teachers’ unions nationwide swooning in unison. He IS their messiah.

Talarico also believes abortion is “Biblical”. Why? Because the Bible doesn’t mention it. Jesus never talked about it. That Mary, mother of Jesus, “had a choice in whether to carry her pregnancy”.

Yes, genius. She chose to obey God and carry her pregnancy. She was young. She was unprepared. She was probably confused and perplexed and scared. She did it anyway. She did not say, “I have a career and don’t have time to give birth to your Son”. She did not say, “giving birth to your Son is inconvenient and will ruin my body forever”. As a result, Mary GAVE BIRTH to the most consequential human to ever walk the face of this earth. Both God-and MAN.

We’re not scared for us. We’re scared for the children. But, keep on with that narrative if it makes you all feel better as you bow to the altar of Baal. I will reference Psalm 139:14, “fearfully and wonderfully made”. Abortion stomps all over this notion. It tells children, sacred, perfect, beautiful (Talarico’s words) children that they are disposable, unwanted, a mere “clump of cells”, a mistake.

In many ways, this is so much worse than putting a turd in a bowl and calling it an “avocado”. Jesus, take the wheel-this scripture is more twisted than a Texas tornado in the spring. May God (HE, HIM, HIS) bless Texas.

A lot of pro-homo people make this claim, but it isn’t true. It’s mentioned several times in the Epistles, but if Jesus talked about homosexuality specifically, it wasn’t recorded.

However, Jesus did say, in the Sermon on the Mount,

Matthew 5:17 “Do not presume that I came to abolish the Law or the Prophets; I did not come to abolish, but to fulfill. 18 For truly I say to you, until heaven and earth pass away, not the smallest letter or stroke of a letter shall pass from the Law, until all is accomplished! 19 Therefore, whoever nullifies one of the least of these commandments, and teaches others to do the same, shall be called least in the kingdom of heaven; but whoever keeps and teaches them, he shall be called great in the kingdom of heaven.

The prohibition on homosexual activity is clearly part of the law as given to Moses, and Jesus reaffirmed that law.

Mr Talarico is supposed to be a Presbyterian seminarian, but there are at least three ‘branches’ of Presbyterianism in the United States, only one of which favor the queer lifestyle and prenatal infanticide.

At least one person I know has referred to Mr Talarico as a “twink,” an effeminate homosexual ‘bottom,’ but there’s no official word on his sexuality.

Beware of those folks who quote the bible as if they had written it!

So where did you get your theological degree from? I’m guessing your mega churches were “community churches” which tend to be nondenominational. Often in those types of churches the head pastor *may* have a seminary degree but the associate pastors often don’t. Whereas in many denominations, all the pastors need to have some kind of degree to preach. So before you lecture anyone on theology, start with your own education.

Secondly, he’s not wrong. (Though this blog post and conservative commentary on his words have typically taken them out of context to score culture war points.) God is genderless. He does not have a penis. In fact, in Genesis 1:27 it says that God made “them,” meaning humans, in His image, male AND female, thus implying that God is both. This aligns with Catholic teaching for a start. (But I’m sure this author doesn’t believe Catholics are Christian like the good evangelical that she is!) Also, for the other commenters, it aligns with Jesuit teaching as well!

As for abortion, it is mentioned in the Old Testament in a way. In Exodus 21:22 th punishment for harming the pregnant woman so she miscarries doesn’t carry a capital punishment because in Jewish tradition, the fetus is not fully human until they have breathed life. Jesus, as a Rabbi, would have known that. And it’s not like abortion was suddenly invented in the 1980’s evangelicals began caring so much about it. Abortion has been around for millennia. I’m not a theologian— unlike this blog author apparently— so I cannot speculate on why Jesus didn’t mention it. I can say that we live in a fallen world where illness and horrible things can happen to people, thus making abortion exist. And I can say that if we truly cared for our neighbors and loved them and supported them, maybe it wouldn’t be needed in many circumstances.

And therein lies the crutch. Jesus DID spend a lot of his ministry talking about how to live out God’s love here on earth. And that everyone is our neighbor. And we should care for the sick and poor. He certainly didn’t talk about Christian Nationalism. So maybe, before lecturing people with your non-existent theological degree, start there. To quote Luke 10:27, the highest law is: “‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength and with all your mind’ and, ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’” Start there before preaching to anyone about who God is or what Jesus taught.

    • A reader says:

Also before anyone jumps in with “but God is referred to as a he!” Some of that has to do with linguistic limitations in ancient Hebrew regarding the lack of gender-neutral pronouns. Again, I’m not a theologian so I won’t go beyond that but discussions can easily be found online for those truly curious.

And as for the argument about Talerico being a Presbyterian seminarian and the different branches of Presbyterianism, that sounds an awful lot like a Baptist jumping in because he believes he is the only “true Christian.” *insert eyeroll* It brings to mind the whole crux of the argument about America being a Christian Nation because then what kind? Baptists only? (I’m certain they think that!) Basically, if one were to try and have all the denominations get together to screw in a light bulb they’d be stuck there for millennia arguing about the finer points of how and what not. Newsflash: just because he’s a Presbyterian doesn’t mean he isn’t a Christian! (And no, I’m not Presbyterian.)

So explain why he’s fine with those same children mutilating themselves. Being created in God’s image, they don’t need hormone treatments or surgery.

He’s a fake Christian, bitter gay man. Those poor kids need therapy and to be taught how to accept themselves for the way they are.

      • Cameron says:

And out of curiosity, bitter gay man: What Christian denomination supports and encourages the hatred of white people as Talarico preaches?
