Trump: boycott Starbucks for a cup?

Let’s face it: Starbucks is all over the blessed place. In the store, on the road and yeah people don’t like their coffee for a variety of reasons. Personally I love a couple locally owned coffee shops: Madcap, Rowsters and Schuil’s coffee are just delicious and if I have the cash and the need to be caffeinated these are my go-to shops. But we do drink coffee from Panera and Starbucks year round. Why? Quick cup of coffee, good service convenience and sometimes tasty treats. Donald Trump who seems to read the trending stories and believe some of the stupidest stuff imaginable disagrees. Why? Because Trump is trying to capture the vote of Christians by feigning outrage at a red cup. With a logo. Really? Because coffee is sectarian? Fox 2 reports:

“Did you read about Starbucks? No more Merry Christmas on Starbucks,” Trump told a capacity crowd of thousands gathered to hear him speak at a pre-debate rally in Springfield, Illinois on Monday evening.

And this matters why? I am buying a disposable paper cup of coffee (you have to admit their Peppermint mocha is delicious). What is on said cup is far less important than the contents of the cup. A coffee cup design is a non-essential. But then again I actually read and studied the word of God. Which is what Christians and frankly any person of faith does.

He continued on a rather absurd rant though:

Trump, who is working to win the support of evangelical and other conservative Christians in a crowded field, has often expressed frustrations over companies using the term “Happy Holidays” in place of “Merry Christmas.”

Another really stupid nontroversy. If shopping at a Bible bookstore I would expect Merry Christmas as a greeting. If not then a canned insincere greeting from a frazzled associate trying to ring up my purchases and dealing with the hordes of shoppers is what it is.

He said on Monday that: “If I become president, we’re all going to be saying, ‘Merry Christmas’ again. That I can tell you.”

His daughter Ivanka and her Orthodox Jewish family too? That will go over well. Gee where does the idea this visionary is a racist come from? Could it be these sorts of ignorant statements?

He added that Starbucks operates a store in one of his buildings and that “that’s the end of that lease, but who cares?”

I mean what does it matter that the baristas will be out of a job, the franchise owner will be taking a big financial hit but Trump took a stand? Wow. And he completely misses the real meaning of Christmas. So here is an oldie but goodie from a Charlie Brown Christmas to refresh his staff’s collective memory about the holiday:

Christmas is simply about celebrating and honoring the birth of a savior. Not about a Starbucks cup or greeting in a retail store or about decorations and buying stuff.

New here and good blog on Neil Cavuto, but beg to disagree on this.
Yes, yes, I know Christmas is not Christian, but it is our culture, or at least my and my family’s tradition and culture and I will defend it and I thank Trump for doing so, no matter what motive you
It is a part of destroying free western culture – removal of one Christian or near enough symbol and tradition in a pretense of not to offend other cultures and religions. In Sydney, Shops are removing Christmas displays, the city made a Christmas tree secular with just silver balls etc.
But clearly, Trump is generally not your cup of tea …or coffee.

thank you for sharing. The issue of the cup is kind of silly in actuality. I notice whether the coffee tastes decent and whether it is worth the money spent to buy it more than the cup the coffee is in but that is just me. Working in a shop around the holidays makes one rather cynical about decorating for Christmas. Trump on the other hand is desperately looking for a hook or an angle rather than coming from a place of belief.

That should be “no matter what motive you ascribe to his ‘rants’.
