It started off with a water cannon salute over his private jet prior to leaving New York City.

It was quickly followed up with arrival in Washington DC

And a much longer than expected meeting at the White House.

The photo above tells quite the story. Trump, likely wagging his finger at the press for asking an impertinent question, Obama calculating how much longer before he can talk basketball with the Cleveland Cavaliers, and Abe Lincoln? Wondering what in the world happened to the country he loves so much.

That said, the meeting, as mentioned above, took longer than planned. But perhaps that’s a good thing. At least it sounds like it went well and things will go smoothly in the future.

Meanwhile Melania was given a tour of the White House residence by Michelle, and given how long the men took to chat, they had time to relax in the White House over a cup of tea.

After that it was a meeting with Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY).

It seems things are going well.

Emerging from the meetings, Trump sketched out priorities for his presidency.

“We’re going to move very strongly on immigration,” he said. “We will move very strongly on health care. And we’re looking at jobs. Big league jobs.”

A transition of this kind, on this scale is a major undertaking. Especially when there is only two months to accomplish the handoff. All in all, it seems that today was a good beginning of a different future compared to the last 18 months. Here’s hoping that everyone involved will continue to work together in the spirit of goodwill that was demonstrated today. This Republic expects it and needs it.
