Mona Eltahawy Proves Journalists Have Killed Journalism

According to “feminist” “journalist” Mona Eltahawy, only those with card-carrying journalism credentials can critique other journalists. And also, Trump is a authoritarian dictator.

If you did a complete head-snap at that reach, I don’t blame you. Mona Eltahawy is an Egyptian journalist. She was rightfully upset when Jorge Ramos and his Univision crew were detained by the Maduro regime in Venezuela and stripped of all their tech and gear after apparently showing Maduro some video of Venezuelans hunting for food in a garbage truck. Maduro, who is indeed a dictator, held the Univision group for at least 2.5 hours, took all of their phones and cameras, forced them to give up passwords, and then released them without giving any of the equipment back. And now Ramos and his team are being deported from Venezuela.

Eltahawy was incensed. But then she made the jump over the shark. You see, President Trump, when he was candidate Trump, had Jorge Ramos removed from a press conference. In Mona Eltahawy’s mind, this is the SAME as Maduro seizing all the Univision gear and detaining Ramos and his crew until they coughed up the passwords to their devices.

Did she hurt herself in making that stretch? Nope. And don’t you dare criticize her unless you are a JOURNALIST.

She’s an EXPERT, don’t you know! AN EXPERT!!!

Well. *leans back, checks journalism degree on wall, leans back in*

Dear Mona Eltahawy,

You are wrong. You are the very example of what has killed journalism as a profession – your inability to treat something as serious as Jorge Ramos and the Univision crew being detained and deported as anything but an opportunity to bitch and moan about Donald Trump.

Maduro is a dictator, and the left wing in this country is more concerned about propping him up than feeding the starving people of Venezuela because TRUMP.

Maduro is a dictator, and you are equivocating on his actions because you want to dunk on Donald Trump more than you want to stand up for Jorge Ramos.

Having someone removed from a press conference is NOT the same thing as forcibly detaining them, removing and confiscating all electronic devices, and then deporting them out of the country.

You have lost all sense of proportion, because TRUMP. ORANGE MAN BAD.

You are what Lara Logan was talking about.

You and others like you have so damaged the profession and practice of journalism that it is no longer about reporting actual news. It’s all about making those you disagree with look as bad as possible. Except your reach of comparing Maduro’s actions and Trump’s actions just makes you look small, petty, and pathetic. I did a Google search, Mona, and it looks like you never bothered to comment on the Obama administration wiretapping journalists and spying on reporter James Rosen. Bad form.

So, congratulations, Mona Eltahawy. You may think that you are standing up for journalism and the free press, but all you’ve shown is that you water down actual malice in order to score a cheap, badly-made point, and that you ignore other sins committed against journalists if the administration involved happens to be on the side you like.

And then you retreat to your bubble and proclaim yourself an EXPERT that cannot be critiqued.

That’s not how the free press works. That’s not how free speech works. No one – not even high-and-mighty expert journalists – are above critique. You know who believes he’s above critique and willing to use force to make sure it doesn’t happen? Nicolas Maduro. You know who’s never used the might of government to deport a journalist for asking a tough question? Donald Trump.

If you truly value the free press, then you’ll see that one is much better than the other. And if you can’t – well, that says a whole lot about you and the state of journalism, doesn’t it?

And since this criticism comes from a “journalist” with a degree, I’m sure you’ll be taking me very seriously, right? (Don’t worry, everyone – that was a rhetorical question.)

Mona’s an activist with a history of attempting to shut down speech:

“An Egyptian activist, Mona Eltahawy, was arrested yesterday in a New York City subway station as she was in the middle of spray-painting over pro-Israeli ads–and seeming to partially paint over a Manhattan mom who tried to shield the ads by standing in front of them. Eltahawy was charged with criminal mischief, making graffiti, and possession of a graffiti instrument.”

Journalism is not a profession; it requires neither specialized training nor a license. At best it is trade like being a cobbler or a salesman.

She’s an EGYPTIAN journalist right? Why doesn’t she head on back to EGYPT and try spewing this stupidity… wonder how long she’d last…

    – I am the journalist, not you.
Actually, in America, sweetums, we can ALL be journalists. It’s what freedom looks like.

    – I know more than you about journalism.
Possible, though I’m pretty well read and OLDER than you.
Also irrelevant. I know how to report facts and how to demonstrate linkage from premise to conclusion (also from known facts to logical conclusions). It comes from part of my jobs over the years being 1) technical writing and 2) having to give misreps up and down the chain. I’ve learned to actually report facts. Have you?

    – I am the expert.
There’s nothing to be expert about, snookums. (MIK nailed that, just above.) We all learned to write adequately where I come from. A goodly chunk of us know how to engage someone to get information. We can all take notes after a fashion. (And, if you mean “write quickly while someone else is talking…. Well, hell, honey, that’s DICTATION and that’s done by a secretary an administrative assistant.)

    – Stick to mechanics or whatever you allegedly teach
Which ultimately demonstrates that I probably actually KNOW something useful. While you… write poorly. And I doubt you have any skill that would be useful – nope, not even that one – if all the computers went dark and all the pens dried up.

Good job, sweetcheeks, you’ve just demonstrated in a profound fashion why we consider your sort to be arrogant and holding yourselves well above your deserved station. You’re not a firefighter, chuckles, you’re just pissing in the wind.
