Kavanaugh Smear Book Fails To Sell

Call it the appropriate ending to the latest attempt to slime Justice Brett Kavanaugh.

The incredibly hyped book, “The Education of Brett Kavanaugh,” by New York Times reporters Kate Kelly and Robin Pogrebin, has absolutely collapsed in on itself when it comes to sales. Given the absolute media blitz that surrounded the release of this book, you would think it would have done more business. Remember, the authors did so much media while supposed “bombshells” in their book were being discussed.

Well, it turns out that when your entire book is based on hearsay and unproved accusations, it’s not going to sell. The current count stands at something between pathetic and insanely hilarious.

Ouch.

Expected to sell at least 10,000-12,000 in the first two weeks and propel The Education of Brett Kavanaugh: An Investigation onto the newspaper’s bestseller hardcover list, it has sold about a third of that in the first two weeks.”

A publishing source provided the latest BookScan numbers, which can account for about 80% of sales. That number is 3,120. “If you add in ebooks — they may have sold a total of 4,000. That’s one of the most epic bombs in political publishing over the past decade,” said the source.”

Double ouch.

By comparison, another Kavanaugh book, Justice on Trial: The Kavanaugh Confirmation and the Future of the Supreme Court, which details the Democratic war on the Trump nominee, has sold 60,000 books and a total of 100,000 copies since its July 9 debut. It was written by Mollie Hemingway and Carrie Severino and published by Regnery.”

Double ouch with a cherry on top.

Kelly and Pogrebin had the perfect set up. Write the book full of innuendo and speculation, continue working as “journalists” for the New York Times, promote the book on their journalistic bona fides, and then see the book rise up the sales charts and the bestseller list of the paper they continue to work for. It was foolproof, right? Well, until they sold whatever journalistic integrity they had for a book advance, and then couldn’t convince anyone to buy the book. (You know what REALLY has to hurt? Looks like Jim Acosta managed to sell more copies of his ode to himself than Kelly and Pogrebin did of their Kavanaugh hit job.)

While this seems a poetic ending to the latest attempt to gut Brett Kavanaugh, the left is not done trying to dig up dirt on him and destroy him. They still can’t get over that they threw everything and the kitchen sink at the man, and he refused to break. They will come back to try again. Maybe not tomorrow, maybe not next week, but someday. The left cannot stand the fact that they lost, and they are bound to try and seek revenge again.

The hype surrounding this book did prompt me to buy something. I didn’t buy this book, but rather the Hemingway and Severino book, written by actual responsible journalists, not a couple of under-qualified hacks.

  • I’ve read Justice on Trial and found it marvelously well-researched and well-written. I’d strongly suggest that readers ask their local library to get a copy, so more people will read it. I did that with mine and, having gotten to read it first, when I returned it there was already an active hold on it. Get the truth out about how badly Kavanaugh was treated.

I will add something reassuring that I picked up from the book. The anti-Kavanagh agenda hinged on finding one person willing to lie and then bringing in experts, meaning feminist lawyers, who’d careful package that lie to make it impossible for Kavanaugh to defend itself. You saw that in the charges that failed to give a date (even the year was uncertain) and location of the alleged attempt at rape. They had to do that because if they named a date, Kavanaugh might be able to prove he was far away attending the funeral of a beloved aunt at that time.

There was an assumption that those lies would be backed up by people who actually knew Kavanaugh who could provide corroborating evidence. That never happened. Even women who might disagree with Kavanaugh’s political views knew him to be a decent man and under heavy pressure refused to lie. That’s good news for our bitterly divided country. The rot only goes so deep.

The 3 admitted liars after Ford’s accusations about Kavanaugh have disappeared off the media radar. If they were not/are not being prosecuted, then I have lost my last vestige of respect for the rule of law.
The idiots in the media and the Left, I repeat myself, apparently do not realize that at some point the straw on the camel’s back will be broken by some stupid action and all heck will break out. Remember It didn’t take much to get the attempted assassination of the GOP baseball team initiated by a Sanders’ follower. The anger I see on the right is barely contained, so IMO it wouldn’t take much to set it off. It seems like the media is doing its best to inflame that part of America and they are doing an excellent job and may reap their “just rewards” dictated by history; one which they probably don’t know about or even care. Shay’s Rebellion was that straw’s result in 1787 with our present Constitution as a result.
