It is official. The 45th president of the United States is Donald Trump.

And his inauguration speech hit the Washington DC establishment right between the eyes. As Tucker Carlson aptly pointed out, this speech was not “conservative,” it was “populism.”

The speech itself was one of the shortest in modern times, clocking in at 16 minutes long. But its themes were unmistakeable.

Today’s ceremony, however, has very special meaning. Because today we are not merely transferring power from one administration to another or from one party to another, but we are transferring power from Washington, D.C. and giving it back to you, the people.

For too long, a small group in our nation’s capital has reaped the rewards of government while the people have borne the cost. Washington flourished, but the people did not share in its wealth.

That all changes starting right here and right now, because this moment is your moment. It belongs to you. It belongs to everyone gathered here today and everyone watching all across America. This is your day, this is your celebration, and this, the United States of America, is your country.

In keeping the speech brief, it significantly tightened up Trump’s message. He emphasized the keynotes of his campaign, which can be summed up in this passage:

We assembled here today are issuing a new decree to be heard in every city, in every foreign capital and in every hall of power. From this day forward, a new vision will govern our land. From this day forward, it’s going to be only America first. America first.

Trump also did three important things within this speech:
1) He left himself out of it.

2) He called out Islamic terror.

3) He called for unity.

What a refreshing contrast to bho’s blatherings filled with an I, me, or my every five seconds. I hope the new administration fulfills at least a few of its many promises. May we be able in 2017 to hum Happy Days Are Here Again!

If nothing else, Donald J. Trump, the campaigner, got us to think and discuss that we’ve been kicking down the road. It’s doubtful that without him this would have taken place.

Now, we will see how President Trump and his administration follow through on putting America on a better, much better, path.
