House Democrats really don’t want to help their constituents. So much so that, rather than listen compassionately, victims were told they were part of a charade and were MAGA Republican props.

As we’ve written, the crime stats in New York City aren’t pretty. What’s even worse is the progressive policies of District Attorney Alvin Bragg. Which either lets criminals skate with no bail or even no jail time, or gives them just a little pat on the wrist. Not only that, but at least two victims were actually arrested and charged because of Bragg’s policies!

As to where the Democrats have been who represent the victims and family members of the victims? Evidently they’ve been AWOL. 

Barry Borgen told Nadler, the committee’s ranking member, that he was “disappointed” with his fellow “Jewish New Yorker” over his response to the attack on Joseph Borgen, who was brutally beaten while walking to a pro-Israel rally near Times Square in May 2021.

“I called Mr. Schumer’s office, another Jewish New Yorker, numerous times. No one called us back,” Borgen told Nadler, who reps Midtown Manhattan as well as the Upper West Side and Upper East Side, of his treatment by the Senate’s majority leader.

“You have Jewish roots here, and behavior like this enables DA Bragg to just do whatever he wants to do,” the elder Borgen added. “We wouldn’t vote for Mr. Schumer again. … And if I lived in Manhattan, I wouldn’t vote for you, either.”

Of course, there were many prior to the hearing who tried to have the hearing stopped and well, acted kind of insurrectiony if you ask me. 

But again, let’s go to all the Democrats on the committee who are trying to gaslight everyone into believing this is just a stunt. A charade full of MAGA props. Cue Jerry Nadler.

Hank Johnson, who likely still believes Guam will tip over, called those representing the victims, props.

Daniel Goldman said it was a charade and well, he got smacked with reality.

Madeline Brame lost her son in a horrific attack, and what did Bragg’s office do? Let the criminals skate. 

Last year, Bragg’s office downgraded and dismissed charges against two offenders who — along with two of their relatives — brutally beat and stabbed Brame’s son, Hason Correa, to death in Harlem.

“He dismissed — completely dismissed — gang assault and murder indictments against two of the defendants clearly on video participating in the brutal, savage slaughter of my son,” she said of the DA. “Hason was kicked, punched, stomped and stabbed nine times by four individuals whom he did not know, nor had he done them any harm.”

Mary Saunders was released from prison in May 2022 on time served after spending 14 months at Rikers Island.

“Travis will be out in the next 18 months,” Brame told Judiciary Committee members. “Mary Saunders — this savage is currently walking the streets of Harlem like she didn’t just participate in the brutal slaughter of another human being — home with her family, home with her children.

“If that’s not a threat to public safety, I don’t know what is,” she added. “And as far as the Manhattan district attorney’s office, if he’s receiving one penny of federal dollars, you need to pull that funding until he starts doing his damn job and prosecuting crime.”

The Democrats were so desperate they tried to make this issue all about guns. 

Multiple House Democratic sources told CBS News they will use the hearing to make a case arguing for stricter gun laws, and will seek to link violent crimes in the city to a need for tighter gun control.

Except this isn’t about guns. It’s about holding the criminals ACCOUNTABLE! It’s about putting actual consequences on the criminals instead of coddling them. Of course people won’t feel safe in a city if someone is stabbed, raped, or shot and a progressive DA will let them off with a slap on the wrist. 

In addition to insulting the victims of crime and trying to make this about the scary guns, Democrats also desperately tried to make this about Donald Trump as their reasoning is this hearing wouldn’t even happen if Alvin Bragg hadn’t tried to prosecute Trump. 

Interestingly, during today’s hearing another crime was committed in New York City. A man was shot in the head during a drive by shooting in front of Assembly Speaker Carl Heastie’s office in the Bronx. Heastie is fully in favor of Alvin Bragg’s soft-on-crime policies. 

Heastie, the Democratic leader of the state Assembly, has been a vocal supporter of the state’s controversial 2019 criminal justice reforms and has fought back efforts by Mayor Eric Adams to roll back some of the measures.

The reforms prohibit judges from setting bail on most cases, which critics complain has put more violent criminals back on the streets.

Heastie has also backed the state’s “Raise the Age” law, which upped the age for criminal liability for suspects to 18. Since the law took effect in October 2019, the city has seen a spike in the number of underage homicide victims and suspects, NYPD data show.

Will this particular incident change Heastie’s mind given it took place right outside his office? I doubt it. 

Rather than face reality and admit their policies don’t work, Democrats only recourse is to resort to insults.
