Honolulu Restaurant: “If You’ve Voted For Trump, You Don’t Have to Go Home, But You Can’t Eat Here”

Honolulu’s Café 8 ½ made news and waves over the past few days after posting a sign to potential patrons:

Certainly a display of liberal inclusiveness and tolerance at its best. The restaurant known for its Puttanesca and “Italian Stir Fry” ended up on the receiving end of many comments after posting the sign on the premises and promoting that they posted it on Facebook. The owner is identified as Robert Warner (former stylist for San Francisco’s Vidal Sassoon as well as a restauranteur in Seattle.) Warner’s wife, Jali, was reached for comment yesterday and downplayed the homemade yellow sign:

“Robert just wants to express how much he doesn’t like Trump. If people take it personally or it hurts them, we cannot help. That’s why we say they have [a] choice if they want to come or not come. We don’t force them.”

Warner told FoxNews.com the restaurant is not actually asking customers whether they voted for President-elect Trump, and said even if they see a customer with a Trump shirt, “we don’t put anything different [in] your food”.

Umm, what? Did she just say “we don’t put anything different in your food”?! Jali Warner claims the restaurant only received three calls since the sign has gone up but the Yelp and Facebook reviews blew up:

“Don’t bother coming to this restaurant. Just an establishment apparently rooted in hatred and intolerance in regard to the national election results. This is the type of attitude you would expect to see during the 50s and 60s during the Civil Rights movement, but apparently the owners of this establishment haven’t matured. If I were able to give the restaurant zero stars for this display of immaturity I would, however, one star will have to do.

Avoid this place and spend you hard earned cash elsewhere.”

“Have been all over the world and have dined at some of the finest restaurants on the planet, but I can assure you one thing:

I will not waste my time nor my money to go to your restaurant. You would be best served to focus on food and not on insulting millions who expressed their political choice in the voting booth.”

“I wouldn’t eat in your restaurant if I were given a free meal.
I vote with my wallet too… and if I ever make it to HI, you won’t be seeing my face near your dump… all because you want to disrespect the President Elect?…
….you must welcome ALL people… not just those that you select as those you accept… oh wait.. the double standard irony is just overwhelming…”

Jali Warner also said in response to inquiries “We don’t want to create trouble. There is enough trouble in the world.”

Really?

This is just another form of liberal tactics. They say they “don’t want to create drama” but they continue to post insulting political rants. They say they’ll stop but they can’t shut up for long disguising their endless spouting off as “caring about everyone” or being “warriors” for social justice (in their armchairs) and then they get all bent out of shape when people don’t agree with them and default to names like “bigot”, “racist” “homophobe” and yes, the buzz word of the year that has been used as the catch-all for all individuals who don’t buy into the liberal mindset: “Nazi”. Really, liberals? What else do you have because calling someone a “Nazi” simply based on the premise that they did not buy into the Hillary big machine and/or voted for Donald Trump is soooooo 2016. And to be honest, after the deaths of George Michael and Carrie Fisher over the past few days we are so done with 2016. The Silver lining? The humor in the irony of Robert Warner calling Trump voters “Nazis” whilst making a passive-aggressive attempt to keep “Nazis” out of his establishment with behavior that well, resembles…yes…very much that of a Nazi!

No Puttanesca for you! So much for Aloha spirit. The main difference between us and them? They sue businesses and attempt to close them down if they walk in the doors and the owners don’t agree with their philosophies/beliefs. Remember Sweet Cakes by Melissa in Gresham, Oregon? Don’t worry, Warners, we won’t sue or attempt to take away your livelihood. We realize the beauty of quietly taking our business elsewhere. And, if you’ve voted for Donald J. Trump and so choose to eat at this establishment during your next jaunt in Honolulu despite the owner thinking you’re a “Nazi”, hang loose, rest easy and don’t worry because…they don’t put anything different in your food! Mahalo!

Uh, your stupid yellow sign states clearly otherwise, numbnuts. Aloha to you!

In virtual world profiles, one of the surest clues to a drama filled encounter is to see “I hate drama!” in a profile.

Sadly, it appears the reviews against the place you quoted are from the mainland. It would be nice to see locals dunning the place.
