Glenn Greenwald Quits His Own Site Over Censorship

There are few journalists on either side of the aisle left who are willing to at least look at where the facts are leading. Glenn Greenwald is one of them.

Yes, he is on the left side of the aisle. No one could ever mix Glenn Greenwald up with a conservative message on much of anything. But he at least desires truth and honesty. Well, truth is now a danger to the left, which is why they are busily engaged in censorship. The New York Post is still locked out of its own verified Twitter account because they won’t bend to Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey (D-Rasputin) and delete their Hunter Biden news links. And the rest of the press is silent, hoping that they won’t be the next one locked out by a vengeful social media who is desperately rigging the feeds in hopes of a Biden electoral win.

And if Glenn Greenwald actually wanted to critique Joe Biden, well, then that’s a problem – according to his own site, The Intercept, which he co-founded. Today, Greenwald dropped the proverbial bomb on The Intercept a la Bari Weiss. He quit his own site over the attempt to censor him over unflattering information regarding Biden. As he detailed in his post on his own substack page, that was the final straw.

Today I sent my intention to resign from The Intercept, the news outlet I co-founded in 2013 with Jeremy Scahill and Laura Poitras, as well as from its parent company First Look Media.”

The final, precipitating cause is that The Intercept’s editors, in violation of my contractual right of editorial freedom, censored an article I wrote this week, refusing to publish it unless I remove all sections critical of Democratic presidential candidate Joe Biden, the candidate vehemently supported by all New-York-based Intercept editors involved in this effort at suppression.”

The censored article, based on recently revealed emails and witness testimony, raised critical questions about Biden’s conduct. Not content to simply prevent publication of this article at the media outlet I co-founded, these Intercept editors also demanded that I refrain from exercising a separate contractual right to publish this article with any other publication.”

I had no objection to their disagreement with my views of what this Biden evidence shows: as a last-ditch attempt to avoid being censored, I encouraged them to air their disagreements with me by writing their own articles that critique my perspectives and letting readers decide who is right, the way any confident and healthy media outlet would. But modern media outlets do not air dissent; they quash it. So censorship of my article, rather than engagement with it, was the path these Biden-supporting editors chose.”

Glenn Greenwald goes on to say that he will be publishing the Biden article on his own page, and then follows up with this roundhouse to the jaw of The Intercept.

But the brute censorship this week of my article — about the Hunter Biden materials and Joe Biden’s conduct regarding Ukraine and China, as well my critique of the media’s rank-closing attempt, in a deeply unholy union with Silicon Valley and the “intelligence community,” to suppress its revelations — eroded the last justification I could cling to for staying. It meant that not only does this media outlet not provide the editorial freedom to other journalists, as I had so hopefully envisioned seven years ago, but now no longer even provides it to me. In the days heading into a presidential election, I am somehow silenced from expressing any views that random editors in New York find disagreeable, and now somehow have to conform my writing and reporting to cater to their partisan desires and eagerness to elect specific candidates.”

To say that such censorship is a red line for me, a situation I would never accept no matter the cost, is an understatement. It is astonishing to me, but also a reflection of our current discourse and illiberal media environment, that I have been silenced about Joe Biden by my own media outlet.”

THAT is a knockout blow, and it accurately sums up what is going on in the mainstream media. Their hatred of Trump has led to outright activism for Biden, including actively censoring anything that might reflect badly on their chosen candidate.

This is not news. This is propaganda. When there is no freedom of the press because the press is busy cutting its own wrists, then the suicide is complete.

Now, those left at The Intercept are struggling to spin Greenwald’s resignation. First is editor-in-chief Betsy Reed’s statement, claiming that Glenn Greenwald is attempting to make himself “a victim, rather than a grown person throwing a tantrum” while also claiming that he has “strayed from his original journalistic roots”.

Ah yes, the “stop whining and take your editing like an adult” explanation. Then Naomi Klein jumped in, claiming that Greenwald is just looking for the money.

Weird. If Greenwald is so wrong, and has gone so far afield, then why are they so mad and personally trashing him? His complaints regarding them were based on their professional actions – as a matter of fact, he praised both women by name in his letter. Reed and Klein chose to make this personal – and that tells you all you need to know.

Journalism is dead because journalists killed it. The only good thing about the current state of media is that all the masks are falling away. At least we will know the biases of each outlet when we look at a source. Everyone knew what Glenn Greenwald believed and his political leanings before today. Now, they also know that he is walking his talk as well.

“ Journalism is dead because journalists killed it.“ They buggered it to death, and their worthless reputations with it.

Only if people actually get to read it. And, naturally, the media enterprise won’t report on their own disease.

Reed and Klein chose to make this personal
No. A better way to say it is they are simply enforcing the orthodoxy of their religion. It’s not necessarily personal animosity – more fear of the eternal consequences if they don’t shun this heretic and denounce him.

I doubt this will wake an adequate number of people, however, who will simply continue to absorb the “facts” from the folks they’ve always thought were trustworthy.

Yeah, I’m not viewing him as an ally but I can at least acknowledge that he sticks to his principles.
