Cancel Justice Clarence Thomas? Not going to happen according to George Washington University.

No sooner had Dobbs been decided, then all the left determined it was completely Justice Clarence Thomas’s fault, even though the opinion was authored by Justice Samuel Alito. That doesn’t matter to the media, scolds, celebrities, politicians, and shrieking harpies. Because of his concurrence, what happened is ALL Clarence Thomas’ fault and therefore, he must go!

Allow him to lecture at George Washington University? NO. Cancel him!

“With the recent Supreme Court decision that has stripped the right to bodily autonomy of people with wombs, and with his explicit intention to further strip the rights of queer people and remove the ability for people to practice safe sex without fear of pregnancy, it is evident that the employment of Clarence Thomas at George Washington University is completely unacceptable,” the petition, which has gained more than 6,500 signatures, statement read.

“While also factoring in his wife’s part in the attempted coup in January of 2021, Judge Thomas is actively making life unsafe for thousands of students on our campus (not to mention thousands of campuses across the country). Make your voice heard and help us kick Clarence Thomas out of Foggy Bottom.”

Golly, those super ‘smart’ law students covered all the bases and then some with their cancel tantrum! I did have to laugh at this line: “people to practice safe sex without fear of pregnancy.” Hey kiddies, ever hear of birth control or abstinence?? Evidently not. But I digress.

From the time the Dobbs ruling was announced, Twitter started trending with a heinous amount of racial slurs against Justice Thomas …FROM THE LEFT, including outright vitriol from Chicago mayor Lori Lightfoot.

Here are just three examples. 

Rule of thumb:

If saying it about MLK would be racist, then saying it about Clarence Thomas is also racist.

Yes, Hillary went there. Then again, she’s NEVER liked Justice Thomas, probably because she knows that he has zero respect for her. Yet for her to claim they were in law school at the same time, which they weren’t, and that he was always that uppity black man with a massive grievance chip on his shoulder? Wow. Stellar mud slinging from the sewer Hillary. Stellar. 

American racial discourse is definitely broken when Hillary calls a black supreme court justice who grew up in the segregated south angry and resentful and aggrieved and the antiracist crowd enthusiastically nods and agrees.

I 100% agree with that.

Amazingly, George Washington University decided NOT to cave to the unenlightened mob, and refused to cancel Justice Clarence Thomas. 

“Because we steadfastly support the robust exchange of ideas and deliberation, and because debate is an essential part of our university’s academic and educational mission to train future leaders who are prepared to address the world’s most urgent problems, the university will neither terminate Justice Thomas’ employment nor cancel his class in response to his legal opinions.”

Justice Thomas’ views do not represent the views of either the George Washington University or its Law School. Additionally, like all faculty members at our university, Justice Thomas has academic freedom and freedom of expression and inquiry. Our university’s academic freedom guidelines state: “The ideas of different faculty members and of various other members of the University community will often and quite naturally conflict. But it is not the proper role of the University to attempt to shield individuals within or outside the University from ideas and opinions they find unwelcome, disagreeable, or even deeply offensive.”

Just as we affirm our commitment to academic freedom, we affirm the right of all members of our community to voice their opinions and contribute to the critical discussions that are foundational to our academic mission.

Good for GWU to get some backbone! While I quibble with line about view representation, the fact that GWU states that they refuse to engage in providing safe spaces for those who might be triggered by opposing views because reasons is a great step in the right direction. 

Colleges and universities are supposed to be teaching critical thinking. Nowadays, that’s been mostly tossed by the wayside in order to placate the toddlers who slap their hands over their ears and scream ‘La, la, la, la! I won’t listen!’ if it’s a line of thought that just might make them realize their entire premise is wrong. 

As we’ve seen events unfold since the draft opinion was leaked and then the actual Dobbs ruling was released, it’s been instructive to watch the gaslighting from the political left. Run with the narrative, and when confronted with the ACTUAL text of A. the Constitution, B. Ruth Bader Ginsburg’s commentary on Roe V. Wade, and C. the actual text of the Dobbs ruling and discussions of states rights, they all run screaming from the room. 

The progressive left toddlers paying thousands a year for education at George Washington University wanted to cancel Justice Clarence Thomas because reasons and hurt feelings. George Washington University didn’t cave to their wokeness. Let’s hope GWU stands firm on this for everyone’s benefit.
