General “Mad Dog” Mattis for President 2016

The Daily Caller published an article yesterday which discussed a movement to draft retired U.S. Marine General James Mattis to run for the Presidency this year. A lot of us find our current choices from the two entitlement parties terrifying and/or unlikable (Trump, Clinton, Cruz and Sanders). The general, fondly known as “Mad Dog” would be a great choice, but The Daily Caller is late to that party.

For those who have never heard of General James Mattis, please leap from the nearest tall building, you fools. Oops, sorry. As you were, sir. I think I got possessed by a free floating hint of testosterone just from thinking about the General. Please, kindly read General Mattis’ biography, as posted by the Hoover Institute here.

General Mattis is one of the senior military leaders dismissed/retired by President Obama. The list includes Carter Ham, John Allen and, famously, Stanley McChrystal after a Rolling Stones magazine article.

As I said, the Daily Caller is quite late to the party. My U.S. Marines veteran friends have been talking up “Mad Dog” Mattis for President, since the moment he retired. Why? I am so glad you asked.

Donald Trump has become the darling of flyover country where we “bitter clingers” live by saying things that are not politically correct. Donald Trump is a pale, pathetic pretender next to General Mattis.

General Mattis is the frequent butt of humorous stories posted on “The Duffel Blog”, the satirical military blog. The draft Mattis movement may have started in December 2013 with The Duffle Blog post “General Mattis Crosses Potomac with 100,000 Troops; President, Senate Flee City”.

In a world of microaggressions and safe spaces, General Mattis reminds us that there is no such thing, as a “safe space”. When we have a president who declares a war over unilaterally, General Mattis states that it is not possible until the enemy surrenders. From the Washington Free Beacon:

“No war is over until the enemy says it’s over. We may think it over, we may declare it over, but in fact, the enemy gets a vote.”

Can you imagine the number of men and women taking to their fainting couches with the vapors just seeing General Mattis on television? It would be so awesome.

General Mattis would never consent to run for President, even though he is what we so desperately need. Real leadership. Real world experience. Clear vision.

Back in July, 2015, The Marine Corps Times reported this from Columbia Basin College in Washington State:

I’ve lived a very colorful life and I’ve said some things,” he told the audience last month. “But not once have I taken them back, and I’ve never apologized for them — and I won’t. I like the enemy knowing there are a few guys like me around.”

While many troops would love to see Mattis go up against the likes of Hillary Clinton or Donald Trump, he said he’d like to see others take on the challenge.

“[It’s] time for younger people, especially veterans, to run for office,” Mattis told Marine Corps Times.

Oh, General. We need you.
Oh, General. We need you.

Pity.
